Called in for Sunday lunch recently, great to be able to sit in comfy leather armchairs by an open log fire while we waited for our table - and after the meal.

Quite varied Sunday menu, but looks like there's a bit more choice in the week judging by the chalkboards. Prices about average for the area (i.e. not cheap!).

Uninspiring choice of beer, only Hooky Bitter and Greene King IPA available, which was disappointing.

This pub is light years better than it was only a few months ago. Far from the desolate place of 2009, this pub now has a more 'local' feeling about it, without compromising on the always excellent food.

I could do with paying a little less for the beer, but it's genuinely nice to not have to leave the village for a pint now.

Pleasantly surprised to find that this pub is open all day, very attractive inside with old beams and flagstone floor plus a nice outdoor seating area (sadly right next to the car park!). Friendly attentive staff. Can't comment on the food as I only called in for a quick pint on a weekday afternoon, however if the price of the beer is anything to go by it won't be cheap to eat here... Must be around 20 pence/pint more expensive than other pubs in the area.

The White Horse benefits from being a beautiful building in a very attractive village. Slightly off the beaten track (or at least the dual carriageway from Deddington) it is worth a visit.

A new landlord and a new menu have spruced things up and on the glorious Sunday afternoon of our visit we enjoyed a straightforward and most enjoyable roast lunch. We haven't had the opportunity to try any of the rest of the menu yet but we will sometime in the not too distant future. The menu changes regularly. At the time of our visit it was Polish Week, which is not a cuisine I would normally seek out. However, judging from the noises of approval from a number of nearby tables it can't have been bad.

The usual range of keg beers are available as are some unusual real ales. Given the weather I would have liked to see a decent cider on offer but that is a quibble rather than a major issue (for me anyway). I wouldn't recommend making a special journey for the White Horse but, if you're in the area, you could do a lot worse.

Great news, the dreadful landlord has gone, the pub is now always warm and we villagers are thrilled! Peter and Jo, now in charge and trying really hard to make this a village local. Live music on some evenings, special meal deals regularly and always a friendly welcome. Usually a couple of ales available - a bit over-priced - but prepared to pay to once again have a reasonable local.

Slightly chilly when we entered, but the bar staff lit a nice open fire for us pretty much straight away. Food was very nice but maybe a bit overpriced. Live nearby so will go again...

This is a great little english country pub in some ways, but lets itself down in others.

We stayed out the back for 1 night and the accommodation was excellent value for 50/double which we booked through late rooms (i think 70/double is their standard rate), breakfast was included and was again excellent and consisted of cereal, full english and coffee/tea.

The sad thing is, this place could be so much better! It has a great old world charm, but wasn't very warm inside (it was -3 overnight) though and customers seemed somewhat of an inconvenience to the publican! I think he's in the wrong game!

The staff were ok, nice enough but a bit morbid and not very friendly! They sgut the bar at 10:30pm when there were still 12 people wanting to drink!

The meal we had for dinner was fantastic, as mentioned before it was a bit pricey for a country pub but was above average by UK standards! Try the lamb's neck if it's on the specials board!

On the whole, this would be a good place for a group of friends to get away as the accommodation is good, just don't expect service with a smile!

With some hard work and friendly service, this place could be a great country weekend getaway.

Well what can I say? I have been going to this pub for years as I live near by. As I read the comments on how rubbish this pub is I very much agree. The Land lord is a very grumpy Man who does not care for his customers. There has not been any money spent on this Pub in a very long time, apart from the rear "garden". But the seats normally chained up. It really could be a good pub if money and love was to be put in to it. The land lord can not see this or does not care. Its over priced. I would not stay here, as even from the out side the rooms do not look good, What with the curtains falling down. I hope Rupert ( landlord ) is reading this so that we can all have a better pub!

We had our Chrismas Party there on Saturday night the food was very good but over priced, very cold could not take my jacket off all night and the service very poor. The staff quite rude and not very professional on the whole very poorly ran. I don't think any of our party will be going there again as this pub was recommended by someone we were very disappointed.

Stayed here with " she who must be obeyed" In late July 2007. Stayed downstairs in the stable block. Requested two ham sandwiches to keep us going til dinner. 9.90p !! and that was for two slices of DRY bread each and a slice of ham. Dinner was excellent quality, but certainly not worth 29.. We stayed for 5 days in the old stable block. The door wouldn't shut properly, when I commented, I was told the problem had started the previous day and would soon be rectified, ( False!, it was never fixed ) and anyone staying in room 4 will find the the door exactly the same now, unless the proprieter reads this first. The room was never cleaned, I deliberately filled the bath to a different level each day, so by the time we left, there were 5 tide marks, and the resident spider in theupper corner of the bathroom was never disturbed. I only had one drink there, a bitter that cost me 3.00. After the first day, we didn't eat or drink ther again, apart from breakfast, which was a joy to behold. 1 fried egg, one sausage, two rashers of bacon and one and a half slices of toast, oh, and one cup of coffee!! In general, over-rated and seriously overpriced. At 70.00 a night, I at least expect the bath to be cleaned!

Another sad example of a country pub that could be so much more than it is. Lets start with the prices: 8.40 for a single G&T, a small lemonade n lime, and a bag of crisps?? This is rural Oxfordshire not Covent Garden.

Onto the food, the cosy private dining room was lovely, and the menu promising. But the food took ages to come and was pretty disapointing. Worse it came in a plate at a time, so with our large group the first people served had cold food by the time the last peoples' turned up. Being a weekday night and having booked days in advance it's not as if they should've been stretched that much. Liver and bacon for 13 really shouldn't have lumps of tough grisle in it, while one person got new potatoes that were hard as rocks.

This place could be so much better and it must piss the locals off no end that their only pub is such an overpriced poor value place. Lets hope a change of management comes soon.

Stayed one night. Room clean and comfortable, although 'double bed' was two singles pushed together. Food and beer was excellent, as was the service. Would definitely return if in the area again.

We stayed here on 10 Sep 05 for one night. The room we stayed in was upstairs over the pub. We thought we were going to get a room on the outside a we has made reservations months in advance. The room we had wasn't worth the money spent, 65 pounds. The furniture look like it came from a tip site and my wife had to clean out the bath tub before we could use it. There was no wash cloths provided and nor were there tea/coffee provided in the room. The staff did not make you feel welcome at all. The only good thing that we can say about this place was the food was good. If I hadn't had a couple of drinks we would not have stayed here and would not recommend it to anyone else especially with the current management and staff.

Stayed there in June 2005 for 9 nights. I requested a room where I could smoke, and this was confirmed by email, as was the cost of 30 pounds per night in view of the length of stay. First impression o.k., but after one night was told I would have to move to another room, as they had put me in the wrong one. Was shifted to a room which - with ensuite - was in total about the size of my kitchen at home, so small I had to shift the bed each time I wanted to open the wardrobe. Had to ask for an ashtray for the room, given reluctantly. Had to ask for an ashtray each time I wanted to smoke in the pub itself (in the smoking area) and the first time I asked the woman behind the bar said "Don't you have an ashtray in your room?" When I asked her if she expected me to bring my own ashtray down each time she mumbled something in a foreign language and gave me an ashtray. Apparently the locals and known friends can smoke at the bar (despite the signs) but guests are discouraged from smoking at all. Did not feel welcome in the bar, although making an effort to chat with the staff. The tea/coffee and milk in the room was not replenished. Had to ask, the first time, but the same thing happened the next day, so I bought my own rather than having to beg for this basic service to be provided. I know, I should have left straight away and gone to stay somewhere else, but you think it's going to improve. It didn't. When I finally left the particularly hostile blonde lady tried to charge me for 10 nights, and when I advised her that I had stayed for 9, she pointedly went through every page in the bookings register, counting "one, two, three..." etc. before reluctantly changing the bill. I was charged 45 pounds per night, and it didn't click until a few days later. My requests for a refund for the quoted price and that charged have not even been met with an acknowledgement. I noticed that other guests seemed to stay only one, or a maximum of two nights. They obviously had good taste. I wouldn't stay there again for free. The food was o.k.

Lovely pub, fab food. We enjoyed sitting by the fire, catching up with the papers and then the evening meal was fantastic, best rib eye steak I've had!

Rooms were good two, about 3 star I'd say, only thing that let it down was the absence of drinkers/locals.

We would definately go back.
