A very good place indeed. An accident had completely closed the A303, so (to get to E. Anglia) we had a choice: follow the HGVs towards Salisbury and the A30, or strike North, towards Swindon. This was a good discovery. It is a very friendly place. The drink is a decent range of Wadworth (well kept) and the food was generous portions of quite good pub food. This is not in the least pretentious and is an excellent "local" in the best sense of the world. I hadn't known it before, but I will be sure to stop back again when I am in this neck of the woods. 6/10

This pub is so very special to me.i spent alot of time here as a younger child and have so many fond memouries here,i visited recently and found a very lovely couple across the road, who remember my nan and pap,it was lovely to find someone who once knew them,me and my daughter had a lovely dinner then unfortunatly we had to get home,we live in northampton and we had been to oxford but when i see the sign for oxford i had to keep driving,LOL.I I love that place,i wish i could run it and bring it back to life,it seems that the old broken gate around the side where me and my brother used to play,is still that same gate, and the windows have,nt had a lick of paint since,i understand it was closed for some time, but my nan kept that place immaculate where is the love, karen x

Hi there my partner and me stumbled on this pub after a lengthy walk. and what lovley people, the food was 5* and the couple running it was so nice and helpful. but as they stated they was covering for the owners while they were on holiday. but it had to be said the welcoming was second to none and the food well mmmmmm. thank you for a great meal and conversation.

Enjoyable visit. Popped in for a pint after a walk and ended up eating. Great Baguettes, substantial and great value. Locals friendly and also the landlord and landlady. Made us, including the dog feel welcome. My 13 year old daughter was intruiged by the layout as she has never been in an old style traditional pub before.

As said before, the public bar is basic, the lounge bar has made up tables for diners. Beer was Ramsbury and one other, I tried the Ramsbury and it was in good condition. After a bit of conversation, the landlady turned out to be quite pleasant after all - also worth a bit of effort to chat to the locals.

beer - 2 available (inc ramsbury) out of season - both tip top
accommodation - good value - 25 for small, comfortable single
splendid veggie food menu, def not standard chain pub fayre
from the accents you can guess the hosts are not wiltshire locals!
good hillwalking from doorstep (but beware of traffic when crossing that horrible road)
limiteb bus service stops outside

absolutely excellent beer - the best for miles Pub is basically a restaurant on one side and a small bar on the other - restaurant side is best. Landlady is probably the worst and most miserable landlady in the country - wortha trip for a pint and to annoy her!

Best beer we have had for ages. Carefully chosen (locally sourced) and well kept. The owners were welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The accommodation was basic but clean and an excellent breakfast.

Dire pub! Stuck in the dark ages, one bar you can only access by risking death from entering on the main road. The place is crying out for a refit and rebrand as anyone other than the locals are made to feel uncomfortable. No pool table, no music and poor choice of beverages.

Lovely beer including an organic real ale Excellent food Reasonably priced B&B accomodation (45 for a double room) Friendly host
