The Joiners' Arms was my final pub of the day. A karaoke was in progress, which I always find off-putting. Most of the customers appeared to be congregated around the bar, presumably to get as far from the crooning as possible. But that made getting the barmaid's attention all the more difficult. The choice of just Wherry or Doom Bar was also uninspiring. Has a cosy interior. But I wouldn't venture back.

Fine traditional pub that features in the current Good Beer Guide and the previous one. Four real ales including Mad Goose, Doom Bar, London Pride and eclectic decor including a fish tank and a stuffed fox. This is the most southerly pub with a London postcode - as the landlady says, Surrey starts just down the road. Recommended.

The Joiners has been under the care of Mavis Porter for over 40 years and she has maintained it as a traditional pub in every sense. As previous posters have observed, the decor is an eclectic mix of brasses and breweriana, copper measuring jugs featuring strongly.
The beer yesterday was Purity Mad Goose, Kelburn Dark Moor (4.5%), London Pride and Doom Bar. I had a couple of pints of the Mad Goose which was in very good condition indeed.
This pub is an oasis in what has become the publess desert of South Norwood and Woodside, there being no real beer across the road in the Beehive, none in The Gold Coast; The Denmark is long gone as is The Gladstone; The Duke of Clarence is gone as has The Two Bobbies ( The Queens Arms); and the Portmanor has recently been shut as has The Ship in the High Street. Only the Albert remains to serve cask ale with The Joiners. The next pubs serving real ale are in Addiscombe or East Croydon.
In conclusion, make an effort to visit the Joiners and congratulate Mavis on running on of the finest pubs in the borough. And if you are a CAMRA member rate the beer on the Beer Scoring System. you could help to get the Joiners considered for the Good Beer Guide. It deserves it.

Nice local pub....one of the best no only in South Norwood...where their isn't any competition but also Croydon.
Neve eating here but beer is well kept.
Nice little beer garden.

Cosy is definately the definative word to descripe this place. Its a feel like entering Aladdins cave, in a very pleasant way
Very tradional feel
Ive now been here twice, and both have been pleasant. Service was decent. Havent seen any theme nights in action.
I can imagine it getting a little clicky at times with regulars

Nice cosy pub - 70's decor with no irony. Subdued lighting, dralon seating and a fish tank. The London Pride I had was well kept.

Pleasant little pub where care has been taken over the decor. Quiz nights on Mondays, karaoke machine. No food in evidence unfortunately.

Cosy little pub, friendly atmosphere & reasonable prices. More horse-brasses than you can shake a stick at!

Would have to agree with Candy girl, a great pub with a fantastic atmosphere. All the locals in the area have nothing on the joiners!! Its the best, I'll be there tomorrow!!!

I love this pub, have been there a few times now and can't find fault with it at all - apart from the low ceilings actually but what can you do? Good atmosphere, friendly people, reasonably priced drinks, and love the Kareoke!!!! (Especially when Gracie and Ryan sing)

a good friendly pub. Was better when Little Al used to do the karaoke though.
