user reviews of the Alliance, Kilburn

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Somewhere to go and watch sky sports with a lager. A pretty indifferent modernised place with laminate floors, pool table etc. They had ales on but no one was daring to try them. Can't say I'd go out of my way to go back, might just about drop in if I was in the vicinity and there was a match of interest on the telly.

I used to live on Mill Lane and West Hampstead, and used to enjoy trudging up to the Alliance for a quiet Fosters. I don't like there any more, though.

Theres nothing wrong with this pub if youre after a game of pool or darts or want to watch the big match as there are plasma screens and a projector for the showing of Sky Sports. The dcor is a little bland and the only ale offering of Greene King IPA was off during my visit, but the barmaid was very friendly and my pint of Guinness was spot on.

I wouldnt go out of my way to drink here but I would regularly use this place if I lived locally.

So the Alliance? My Rating?

No visibly obvious price list. lose 5 points out of 10.

Drab = less 1 point

Lack of choice of real ales = less 2 points

I've got nothing to say that would recommend this pub at all. Stay well away I say. It's a boring drinking hole for those who like lager, and are prepared to pay whatever the price might be.

quite an old school boozer, and a local's pub, but perfectly alright and perfectly friendly crowd. i can only speak from personal experience, but never been any hint of racism in the times i've been in there.

I thought I had to say something about the accusation of racism posted a while ago. I've been using this pub for a number of years along with a number of white, black and asian friends. None of them have ever felt uncomfortable there. In fact it's not so long ago I saw Mick the landlord tell a pickled middle-aged woman (who I'd never seen before), who was expressing idiotic racist views, to shut up or leave. It's fair to say that the Alliance still has a substantial contingent of white working class regulars but they don't growl at strangers, take snuff or scrawl BNP slogans on the toilet walls...

Shocking story from Sketchers if true.

I went in here last night for the first time since the refurbishment - much smarter and more welcoming than it used to be. IPA and Abbot on tap from what I could see although I had a softie. Following the gentrification of the Lion this is really West Hampstead's only 'locals' pub and I hope it remains that way.

I am amazed at the most recent comment about the Alliance being a "racist" pub. What a load of ********. quite a few Black lads and ladies go in there and the Chef is black!

ok i recognise that a few people have posted positive reviews about this pub, however i can only draw back to an experience i had, which led me to have only feelings of anger towards the people that both work there and go there.

Firstly I am a well-dressed black male and a couple of years ago i went to The Alliance with several white friends of mine. I first visited the toilet and then proceeded to buy a drink for myself. When I asked for a simple pint, I was told that I was not going to be served. I first believed this to be because of my particularly young appearance, so i pulled out my drivers license only to be told:

'your great-grandad wouldnt get served in this pub now leave'

A large number of drinkers heard him state this and did nothing to defend my cause.

A racist pub exists in NW6 West Hampstead, and people need to recognise this simple fact.

This closed down for a few weeks and has recently reopened. One half has been given over to a restaurant which was empty on the Friday night I was in, the other half remains a drinking area. It used to be very much a locals pub. There still seems to be quite a few locals in but not like before. Drinks have increased (used to be 2.10 a Stella, now 2.90). Swirly carpet and looks a bit like a Weatherspoons without the seediness. Still have televisions but they only show Sky Sports news apparently. Rumoured that the landlord who's been there a long while now has put alot of his own money into it. I think he's made a mistake on the food front but only time will tell. All in all lacks a bit of atmosphere but okay for a pint or two. Jukebox which is a decent touch. Left with the feeling that another pub is dying in the NW6 area.

Eccellent Pub near Kilburn & Westhampstead Tube Stations. A friendly pub in a nice quiet location. There is a Juke box and a pool table. All the bar staff are very nice and the Landlord Mick is top quality (even if he is from Waterford). Overall rating 10/10. Spot on

Okay sort of pub frequented by locals. Live football. Pleasant change from the seediness of the Black Lion on West End Lane
