please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Popped into the Jolly Butcher the other evening (mid-week) and it was very quiet. About 6 people inside and a similar number outside. They have a large enough area at the side and back of this pub, but they don't make the most of it. Outside seems very "concretey & car parky"... I caught the last knockings of the sun before it went down, on a table outside. Pleasant enough bar staff, but will I re-visit again this year...? Probably not.

Much improved. 3 real ales - all spot-on. About 50p a pint cheaper than the nearest boozer. The 2 guys running this place now clearly know their business and do it well.

Most of the local numbskulls that used to make the Jolly a serious no-no have been purged, or are now on their best behaviour lest they are swiftly banned.

The old boys that inhabit the public bar and play cards and crib remain the same, despite the pub's dramatic reinvention as somewhere you might actually want to spend some time having a few drinks.

Well done. :)

Boy did they do this place up! It is unrecognisable from the dilapidated & filthy state it was in before. Dare I say it is a tad boring now?....still, you cant please everyone...

The Jolly Butchers has re-opened after a complete refurbishment, It is now owned by two people ,one who used to be the landlord about 10-12 years ago. No pool table or loud music but background music and good food and drink. Three real ales and four lagers plus various bottles etc. A clean pub with three dart teams and NO trouble.
A proper freindly locals pub, well worth a visit..

Hey - what's happening at the Jolly? It used to be great! Any new owners on the horizon?

All change again....this could be a great 'locals' pub if they got the right Landlords in and did it up a bit, none of these transients care.

This pub is in serious trouble... It's licence is being "reviewed" at present; London Pride is never on after Paul left; Courage Best occasionally on. Bottles of LP on sporadically. The new "landlord" (I hesitate to call him that)is perpetually drunk and isn't capable of running a bath. Bernie got rid of the Bolivian Marchers and even they don't want to come bad. The bar staff appear not to be turning up of late. Bar closed at 10 on a Saturday because of "no staff". I suspect all this is deliberate and this pub will either change hands for a song or go under. It is sad because the potential is there and this gaff is crying out for TLC and decent management.

Yet another new landlord,(Bernie's gone)and he will only cover for a few months. The brewery really needs to get a permanent crew in and start looking after it.

Good Luck Bernie...friendly pub as long as you are not a stranger. Could do with some TLC however, especially outside for the Summer (and the smokers)

Well done Bernie, a good local pub at last.

Two bar community local. Only one ale (the ubiquitous Courage Best) served OK.

Friendly staff, but desperately needs a lick of paint to get rid of the nicotine stains.

This pub has just been taken over as of 2 days ago by my younger brother I have not been there as I am in the U.S but I am sure given a chance he will be able to turn it into the sort of pub everyone longs for, so do go and support your local young landlord its the only way to make a pub great!!

anyone other than Chelsea fans need not apply. if not Chelsea then you could do with being familiar.
Is_it - 31 Jan 2005 13:39
Good local pub can seem a bit tatsy at first until you get better known. Helps if you're a Chelsea fan.
