user reviews of the Laurie Arms, Hammersmith

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is a good pub. They modernised it a wee bit not too long ago but it still feels pretty traditional and maintains a proper London pub character.

They've got 3 or 4 screens so its excellent for football watching but still a good place to have a drink regardless.

The landlord seems a decent guy too and keen to keep it right.

The best pub in central Hammersmith in my view and the comments from Aug 2012 do not do the current establishment justice.

Poor drinks, generally unwelcoming and sometimes slightly intimidating atmosphere, theres a reason why a pub in such a visible location is always mostly empty.

Bar staff care little for those who are not regulars, and regulars care little for outsiders invading their haunt. Blaring music played at ear-splitting volume, you seemingly arent allowed to play on the pool table unless a committee of regulars says so, and will be eyed suspiciously as you enjoy your drink.

Used to survive on the trade from the Hammersmith Palais; now I am unsure how this pub continues to survive. It would be no loss whatsoever to the world if it didnt.

Main attraction here is the Thai food, very good, close one between here and Latymers on Hammersmith Road as to where it's better. Pub is nice enough but there are better ones nearby.

Above average pub with friendly service on my last visit. I'd say it's one of the better pubs in Hammersmith, particularly at the bar area. There's also an extended seating area with a pool table which feels a little more on the restaurant side. On the whole though a nice pub, certainly better than the Fire Station nearby.

I was served an undrinkable pint of Greene King IPA in here and ended up swapping it for an Old Speckled Hen which was ok. There is also a selection of standard lagers alongside Peroni.

Since my last visit ten or so years ago they have added an extension onto the side which has tripled the size of the pub and made it a little brighter. Unfortunately I think that a little bit of the charm has gone, but it is still a decent pub.

I counted three plasma screens dotted around and there is also a pool table at the back of the extension. To my horror I discovered that my once much loved dart board had vanished.

The barmaid was nice enough and the crowd seemed friendly so you could do a lot worse than giving this pub a try.

First visit ever on a Friday evening after work...pretty popular and the food looked tempting...tried a NZ malt lager instead of the unappealing (at the time) Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen

certainly a younger oriented post work crowd at that time...nothing really to growse about in summary!

To be honest this is one of the best pubs in Hammersmith proper ( not including the rivieria).

Lovely cheap food, light and airy conservitary and then main room give it a beer garden feel.

Doesnt often get very busy with the exception of lunch time thursday and friday in general.

Get there and support this local before the developers get to it!

Has become one of our locals for lunch with the work crowd. Thai is tasty, affordable and comes out hot and quick!

This has been my local for almost 25 years now and I hope it remains that way although with the Palais now gone it might go the same way. Don't do it, Dennis!
I think the Scottish guy referred to was our Gordon, otherwise known as Gay Gordon and definitely friendly!
The Harry Potter lookalike must be Jason, the guvnors son.

Definitely one of the beter pubs in the area.

Bright and airy pub, with staff who actually seem interested - so unlike some of the other places in Hammersmith. The Thai food served to nearby diners looked good too.

Really good pub. Staff are really friendly. (Scottish manager?) always welcoming. Thai food is delicious. Plenty of it and comes out really quick. Defo so much better than Latimers!!

This is a great pub, light and airy, great atmosphere, lovely staff and nice food. Perfect for chilling out in the afternoon. Clean pub too, nice toilets ladies!! Good clientele also, for being so close to The Palais you'd think the School Disco kids would take over, but anyone without ID was swiftly shown the door. I guess it help being close to the CopShop!!

only pub in west london to be run by a Harry Potter lookalike, albeit a smaller version. Ironically, much used by the police from up the road.

In a way a shame it has been modernised, but the new Laurie is a larger and good little pub with nice staff and (we hear) Thai food (not yet tried). A valiant effort.

A really nice place to sink a couple before heading off to the Palais.

My visit in October 05 found the two cask ales in excellent condition (and with one of those being Courage Best, which is nearly always off everywhere else.

The Laurie Arms is a charming FREE House serving a wide range of beers and wines. It has a beautiful conservatory with a pool table!! Great landlord with some very sexy staff (and some not so sexy!) It shows LIVE footy on two 52" plasma screens. Well worth a visit

lovely pub, friendly staff, the revamped bit with a glass roof makes it even better, pool table will keep you there until closing time. best pub in hammersmith.

Great Thai food at excellent prices, lively atmosphere, good music, pleasant sunny decor. Downsides: two very badly kept ales, football on two large screen TVs, 99% male clientele, deafening noise, and extra charge for paying by credit card.

The Laurie Arms used to be a small dark but friendly pub, now the Landlord Dennis McCarthy has had this place re-vamped in a fantastic way, it is now 3 times its original size, spacious, light and friendly.
The staff are both friendly and very competent in there jobs which is a refreshing change to some pubs. The Laurie Arms still serves excellent Thai Food, freshly cooked on the premises by Thai cooks. I would personally recommend this pub to all, both young and old as the best pub in Hammersmith without a doubt.

Went last night. Superb race night and a pub cat all added up to a great evening.

The Lawrie Arms in Shepherds Bush Road. Nice one-bar Irish pub, excellent staff, especially Betty. Can get very crowded when the School Disco runs on a Saturday night at the Palais next door. Good Thai food.
