please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Popped in Saturday afternoon Jan 28th, first time since it had been taken over. Pleasantly surprised really...The place was packed, both with people eating and drinking. Seemed a lot of locals, and also sport on TV, but not in your face.. Large drinks choice, but not many real ales.. I settled for a chilled Mosaic IPA followed by a Camden Hells lager. Food choice is simple, but noticeably cheaper than its competition...

Note the date; Saturday 29th January 2022.. final night, absolutely mayhem and beer being sold off cheap...(so enjoyed a few). I'm not local so I've no idea whose bought the place, but have enjoyed coming here over the years.. With another refurb at the two Lifeboats, hope the Crown stays, well, what Sheringham locals want...

Large pub near the sea front, although the sea defences means that you can't see the sea from the outdoor drinking area. Clearly a chain pub,, but the beer was OK and food reasonable, Good service, but I don't think I would drink here if I was a local. as it totally lacks atmosphere.

I visit Sheringham regularly several times a year. As it has been about seven years since I last visited this pub I thought I'd give it another chance after what had been a dreadful previous experience. Nothing seems to have changed. The staff have a dreadful attitude. I really cannot understand how this survives as a business!

It took some time to find the barmaid, she was out at the back chatting. Sullen and disinterested service, but the beer was OK. Prices sky high however, even for this area. Apart from two people having a coffee I was the only customer all the time I was there. I wouldn't be in a hurry to return. How did this place manage to get into the Good Beer Guide, I wonder?

I took my friend here for her birthday meal here and the fish meal was very nice indeed......they have some real ales and the staff made us welcome...will go there for a meal again...

Dreadfully downtrodden, and dog-earred staff. A pity, because I've previously had good experiences in here, but my last was not so. The beer was putrid and the air was rancid from stale smoke drifting in from the door to the smoking area. The fish we were all served was still frozen in the middle. The sulky waitress could be heard in the kitchen referring to us as "f***ing twats", as we ha dared to send our non cooked still frozen in the middle fish back. With this we immediately left, paid for our drinks and she threatened to phone the police if we did not pay for our frozen fish meals. We told her to get the manager on the phone immediately as he was out at cash and carry but she refused.
We will never go back here, and we have circulated an email to our 130 team workforce not to use this place having recently moved here.

We came to Sherringham to go to our usual hotel for lunch and to find it closed, so we decided to have lunch at The Crown. Nice pub, but the food was dreadful. Only yesterday we went to a Weatherspoons and to my surprise it was great. The Crowns food however has a lot to be desired. My Nan has a Lasagna, and it was not cooked. The pasta sheets were hard, and there was very little sauce. We asked for it to be heated further, and the waitress took it away, but we could over hear her complaining about us to her colleagues, not very good!!!! Secondly, my partner and I decided to have fish and chips, considering we were on the beach, we expected the fish to be fresh, WRONG, it was cold, mushy and very strong fishy flavor. Obviously this was bought in and was frozen. The chips were half cooked. My sister had the gammon which was ok, and the burger my brother-in-law had was of a poor quality. 9 for fish and chips would have been good value if it was fresh. I complained to the waitress about the fish, and she commented, "yes we have had lots of complaints" SO WHY ARE YOU STILL SELLING THIS!!!! Overall, very POOR quality food, poor service, my rating 1/10 I will NOT be going back.

what a shame, this has enough going for it to be the best pub in the area,my wife comes from stiffkey just up the road, but we always avoid this pub when in sheringham, dont know why...just dosent seem right...perhaps a good chef might turn it around....no rating given

Not good. Food was poor; undercooked frozen fish, watery tasteless fish pie, offhand service. There are better places nearby.
dava56 - 13 Sep 2011 14:39
perfectly ok but the Windham is far better. Only non-national ale was Wherry

Visited February 2011. Monday night obviously quiz night so most of the tables were reserved for potential entrants. Good value for pub meals (1st meal 8, second meal 1) although my burger was pretty unappetising. Beer range the usual - Green King, London Pride.

Adequate - nothing special - but did have plenty of outside seating for a sunny afternoon.

I visited again in the hope that time had healed this establishment. Sadly, it had not. I experienced the same off-hand service as I did about a year ago. The place looked decidedly grubby and I felt totally unwelcome. How a place like this functions as a business is beyond me!

Not good.Visited one Sunday June afternoon.Terrible service for a pub supposedly in a major tourist spot.
The food was staggeringly bad.Had a curry which was slop, alongside rice only fit for a rice pudding.Surprisingly expensive for a fosters lager 3.40.Avoid.
toolster - 25 Jun 2010 22:11
Locals tell me that one of the bar staff is a BNP activist & so his supporters tend to gather here.

Visiting Sheringham again in October I noticed that this pub had been given an award by Sheringham Council! Have they been in it? Says a lot about the council I think. AVOID.

the place is fine - we sat outside in the sun

only problem we had was the building work right next to the beer garden and we had chips of wood landing on us! not the pub's fault though so I won't mark down for that

tried this pub while on holiday, bar staff all suffering severe personality deficiency, made us about as welcome as a fox in a chicken shed. The live music evening was verging on torture, take some ear defenders and try not to get crushed by the locals who decend on this pub like its the only pub in Norfolk that does live music. Food was about as tasty as the pub, avoid at all costs.

Visiting Sheringham again I thought I would give the place another try.
Big mistake.
Awful surly staff. Were they doing me a favour serving me? They seemed to think so. How on earth does this place survive? AVOID!

Pub in the best location of the three we visited last weekend. From the rear windows you can see the coast. The pub being in the Woodfordes Ale Trail brought it to our attention. It seems to be a Greene King owned pub as only IPA, Abbott and O/S/H with thankfully Wherry. The outside rear seating area allows you to drink your pints facing the sea.
Love_good_ale - 25 Jul 2009 15:35
Popped in here on a day trip to the Sheringham Beer Festival. Four ales on, three from Greede King (IPA, Abbot and Speckled Hen) and Woodeforde's Wherry. Not a bad pint of Wherry and the barmaid was friendly and welcoming. Not sure what the pub is catering for though, it has large TV screens, food (didn't try it though), real ales and large outside drinking area overlooking the sea. I guess it's a catch all for holiday goers.

Took the family in for a drink in August and will never return. Surly, totally disinterested barman could hardly be bothered to serve me. He did so whilst talking to another member of staff who was standing around doing nothing. All this a time that the place was almost empty early evening. Tables were not cleared and the place was generally in need of a good scrub. There are far better places to drink in Sheringham.

An ok pub. Beer seemed alright but nothing special. Nice views outside and the staff were very friendly. Food was the usual pub microwave fayre but didn't claim to be anything else and was fine for what it was.
plenum - 2 Aug 2008 10:32
Set at the bottom end of Sheringham high street overlooking the sea.
Its not the best pub and in summer it is normally full of families however the food is good value and there is a selection of ales to be tried.
Try the small secluded outdoor seating area at the back if the pub is busy.
CambridgeBlue - 2 Jan 2008 16:17
pub location ok, shame about the motorway style concrete wall blocking the view. Food very average - beer ok. inside could do with a good clean - especially tables and chairs. Wife enjoyed Steak pie, but my Lime Chicken was luke warm - but cooked. Kids chicken crunchies & scampi seemed good. beer yard looked like could be fun when busy.
isaidright - 2 Jul 2007 21:24
Agree that the views are great, and food isn't half bad either!
Deodar - 24 Mar 2005 13:04
good food.2 for the price of 1 in winter!
willy - 4 Mar 2005 17:41
Didn't pay much attention to the beer or food, or even the interior. Set high up over the beach, his place is worth a visit just for the views of the sea. Plenty of room to sit outside and take in the foam.

Annual Folk Festival too.
