Cocktails (eg G&T) are reasonably priced here. Seem to have upped their cask offering to three ales now. When I went on there was EPA, Old Empire and Hobgoblin. Sadly the Old Empire was vinegar, but my pint was duly changed without fuss by polite and diligent staff.

I always go here when in town. Good Indie/Rock pub with bands upstairs. Beer on the more expensive side but on a night out in town where isn't? Nice to go down for drinks after work. Has small but pleasant beer garden , assuming it is not busy, when it is full of smokers (me included) is open late, do sometimes a good alternative to a club. It does get very busy at night though, and can be difficult to get a seat and not the cheapest of places

visited during this weekends "white noise festival" on the sunday for some food , the atmosphere was brilliant and i got to see an acoustic artist called i think peter wyath ? brilliant playing and looping... hobgoblin was great, and the food was with me in under 5 minutes, they did have a small army of staff working so im not surprised at the speed of service, it was rammed

Firebug, city centre brilliance in my opinion, i try to have lunch there 2-3 times a week.
i felt compelled to make a comment after reading the pricing comments from dynamiteninja, this bar always seems to be priced reasonably compared to similar bars i frequent, the orange tree, loaf, fatcats to name a few..
the real ales are of the highest standards and hobgoblin in particular one of the best ive had and reasonable at 3.00 too
try to make it down if you like real realaxed atmos and good beers or cocktails as many of my co workers at the council like after work

Guinness now 3.20! Staff reckon its been that much for years.... Last few times I went it was definitely 3, even just a week ago! Maybe the owner has seen my previous post and reckoned it was time to put his prices up...
|
Do try the Guinness though. It's 3 which is pretty reasonable for a late night venue in Leicester and it's kept pretty well, and poured correctly.

Open late, but avoid the ale. Off and expensive. Hobgoblin plus a guest.

Not quite the same as when it was the Lamplighters, but one of the new pubs left in the centre that cater for an alternative crowd. Open till 4am at the weekends, which is always a bonus (probably the only decent place to go to so late), however i have noticed recently they tend to let in just about anyone.

Spent a very jolly saturday night in here on my first trip to see the sights of Leicester. Loved this pub. Two good guest ales on pump and a good selection of continental beers on tap and bottled, food was good and the cocktails were good too (if you fancy that sort of thing). One of the things that really struck em was how friendly and good the bar staff were - every time i was being served at the bar (no matter how busy it seemed to be) I was asked by another member of the bar staff if I was being served. They were fast and knew their jobs well, really can make a difference. I was there during summer holidays and it struck me as he kind of place that students would flock to in term time, but I can't say that'd be a bad thing as this seems like a pub where the atmosphere just gets better the more people are in it.

Popped in here last weekend - had a nice pint of GL draught cider and a bottle of Addlestones. Food was adequate pub grub. Nice atmosphere (although bouncers on the door even at lunchtimes), friendly staff, not a bad place at all.

Great venue for gigs. (Much better than the Charlotte). No real ale, of course. Big room downstairs, and smaller room upstairs.

Late licence now stops at 1am, alas!
|
I love it. Great range of drinks, the staff are fun (especially the fella who books the gigs) and the venue upstairs is classy indeed - lots of Magic Teapot gigs there which is recommendation in itself. very useful pre-Retribution or post-anywhere else owing to the obscenely late licence.

Good spirits range. Great music quiz on Tuesdays

All the comments below are true, but not worthy of a 10,cheeky!

a new city center venue incorporating wholesome food, live music, and a late licence, giving plenty of time to enjoy the chilled atmosphere
