I visit The Helter Skelter often. Great pub, ale quality is top-notch, staff friendly. The food is excellent, my favourite dish here is the rarebit. A rich cheese sauce with a touch of mustard, on top of bacon, on top of toast, with proper home-made chips and a small side-salad. My main reason for calling in here is still the beer, so once again top marks for quality. Called in Kass 22 across the road - they were selling a couple of beers in the modern style, deliberately cloudy. Awful, you can taste the cloudiness as a dryish feel on the tongue and teeth. Tried a pint of somethiun else, very bland, left half of it and went back to the Helter Skelter. Best pub in Frodsham.

We enjoyed this place and had some good food in the upstairs room. The bar was busy and the beer selection excellent. It was a very pleasant evening and we would recommend this little bar to anyone. The one across the road (as mentioned before) is Kash 22 which is a sister pub to one in Chester (BlueBall and RedBall mini-breweries). This one had a great atmosphere with a very good live band playing 1970's rock. They have their own beers on cask and keg and we tried a couple which were not totally to my taste but my friends liked them OK. They do food - burgers etc., but we felt that Helter Skelter had the better menu and we plumped for that instead. Frodsham actually looked quite good for pubs but we didn't have enough tie to do more than two as we had to get a taxi back to our narrow boat on the river (some distance from the town).

Been here a couple of times before, remains good. 8 ales on 3/4 from Cheshire plus 3 craft ales (including Thornbridge Jaipur). Weetwood is the best value ale (£2.50 pint) with guests usually over £3 depending on ABV. Best ale I had last night was Slaters Blitzen at 4.0%. There is a bar over the road @ 22 Church Street, think used to be wine bar but now house Blue Ball Brewery with three handpumps and numerous craft - good beer in here.

We went in about 7pm on a Saturday night after walking up the Sandstone trail. The place was busy, but there is plenty of room, not least in the courtyard out the back door. Real ale selection was superb. I think they had 8 cask ales on, from various breweries around the local region, plus cidre and a selection of the usual lagers etc. Each beer had a description on a blackboard behind the bar, which was a nice touch. Have to say the 4 pints I had were all in superb condition.
Seemed a friendly place - we had a good chat with some of the other punters. Didn't try the food, so can't comment on that, but can highly recommend the place for a drink. Only downside was we had to go catch the last train home. Will definitely visit again if we are in Frodsham.

Smallish but lively pub for us older folk with plenty of excellent ale on - best pint of Weetwoods I've sampled. Easily the best pub for beer in Frodsham.

After re-reading my review, I feel I should add that I had already necked two pints of the Weetwood before tackling the Lancaster. I would have cheerfully worked my way through the rest of the range but we were going home on a coach (with no toilet).

Go to this pub frequently, bar staff and regulars are friendly and the ale is spot on i would recommend you taste the beer before buying which is always welcomed as not all real ale tastes nice

I was last here a few years back and paid a return visit yesterday. 8 ales were on - Weetwood Best, Derwent Golden Oats Bitter & Doctors Dilemma, Liverpool Organic Happy New Year, Black Hole No Escape, Ossett Silver King, Offbeat Out of Step IPA & Burscough Sutler's IPA. The latter was replaced with Merlin's Dragon Slayer whilst we were there. They also have a real cider - Broadoak KB was on. Although I'm sure I remember they had more ciders last time. It was the best I tried in Frodsham last time I was here and on yesterday's experience I'd hazard a guess that it still is.

Over the past year I have visited this pub on several occasions. It always has eight real ales on the bar of a high quality. The service is excellent and the locals friendly. There is a resaurant that does interesting and delicious food. It has become one of my favourite pubs in England. I highly recommend a visit. It is within five minutes walk of Frodsham railway station.

By far the best pub in Frodsham. The Ring O'Bells and Helter Skelter lead the others by miles and miles. Has a very large selection of constantly changing ales from all over the place, all served in over-size glasses, as well as a selection of bottled beers from around the world. Great food, including some lovel veggie dishes. Allows dogs after 9pm, when they stop serving food - shame they don't allow them in earlier as it now has a "proper" restaurant bit upstairs (not been in it though).

Used to be a great place for a quality pint but not any more - the quality of the beer has really gone done lately.

Great beer, great atmosphere, friendly staff and superb clientelle.
I just wish I lived within walking distance!
|
Great beer selection and well served. Good restaurant too. This little pub is laden with beer memorabilia. All real ale lovers should go.

good food and definately the best bar staff in frodsham!

I have been drinking there for 12 years, the draught beers and continental bottled beers are first class, food is excellant, now under new managment brighter than before
|
Imaginative menu and a superb selection of specials. Excellent range of continental bottled beers (what about some Heller Sclenkerla Rauchbier?)and at least five real ales in good condition. Very friendly staff. Small gripe - a bit chilly.

I agree with Lesley, except about the ale. She should have mentioned it. Plenty of choice - all well kept
