This pub went up in my estimations since the Greene King take over of the Spirit Group. but since legal highs have been criminalised we're back to the bad old days with chav bar staff gagging for some Mamba. Served reluctantly by some slag who was only interested in telling me what time they closed and last orders are "NOW". I guess if you're a single mum smack head with a Mamba smoking baby sitter to pay you really need a job in this place as many in the same situation have been here before you. It's the way forward for people like you so I won't knock you for putting in the effort to get straight. Other staff include some Northern bloke who thinks he's a "bit handy"

Horrible Pub. Served a pint of Immortal that would have killed me if I had drank it. Couldn't get it close to my mouth before the smell hit me.
Pub building is impressive but the palce is full of litter. Avoid.

Almost opposite the Golden Bee on Sheep Street, but definitely not in the same league. Only two handpumps. I opted for a pint of Tornado from the Cheshire based Storm Brewery. It was served by a very pleasant young lady and the beer was OK, but not outstanding. Overall, the pub is tired and seems to lack atmosphere and my wife was very unimpressed by ladies toilet.

Been to Stratford every July for past many years, always spent a lot of time in this pub as pretty good for watching sport, used to play pool in the outbuildings in the garden but they have shut them now. Still always call in for a couple but we now prefer some of the other pubs in town, we did eat in here once, don't think would do that again, waited about an hour and when it arrived it was cold. Friendly enough staff and beer always been okay, it's just not great

Decent enough town boozer, but there are a lot nicer places not far away

A 16th century hostelry described as being Tudor in style (it certainly isn't clean lines, Farrow & Ball and halogen lighting!) which is big inside although there were only a handful of people there last night. An uninspiring range of ales including Marston's EPA, Young's Bitter and Bombardier (which was in good order). Nothing to write home about but I have been in worse. Did not eat there but it looked like they served typical pub grub.

Seemed busy when we visited. Nice pint of Pedigree and decent enough choice of other ales. Didn't try the food but portions seemed good and plenty were eating. Would visit again.

This is the first time that I have left a comment about a pub that I have visited and had a meal in. Out for the day on Bank Holiday Monday we passed the Rose and Crown and decided to Pop in for a meal. Although it was packed and waiting time for a meal was approx 40 minutes we chose to stay. The menu was varied and the food prices seemed reasonable although it was standard pub food and not cordon bleu. After waiting for over an hour and 15 minutes the food was served to our table. It was cold and the chips looked as though they were cooked the day before as they were cold and unfresh. I did coment to the waiter who bought them wether they looked to him as though they had been freshly cooked, he just mubled under his breath and walked off. People all around the pub who had sat down were infored that there orders could not be met as they had ran out of gammon, steak, and beefburgers, and the waiting time was now over an hour. I find it hard to understand how on a bank holiday weekend not only was the kitchen not staffed sufficently but that they had ran out of food. The quality of the food was terrible. I know you get what you pay for so to speak..but I for one will never eat there again.

Worst pub lunch we have ever had, from the outside you could hazard a guess that it was a nice friendly welcoming pub. This was not the case. The staff barely cared for its customers, they were even drinking behind the bar. No effort on the service front, seemed like they didn't want the business.
Ordered our lunch, most things were off the menu as they had 'ran out'. The food came, missing most of the accompaniments. The chips were soggy, the wedges were hard and dry and it was served with a mayonnaise which had a skin. We waited about an hour for the staff to clear the table, which gave me the chance to complain. I asked why should I pay full price for a half a plate of food? Their response was a blank look, so we just left. Does anyone know the company who owns this place? As I want to make a formal complaint.

Food was edible. Beer was drinkable. Service was OK. Filled a gap for a quick lunch.

It is with great regret that I have to say this was one of the worst pub experiences I've ever had. The decor was nice and comfy and the atmosphere was nice but the service was absolutely appalling. I was there with my family for food before catching a show. We waited over 45 minutes before inquiring where our food was. The bar staff told us there would be a 5 minute wait. 15 mis later we asked for a refund. The bar staff said "Well I'll have to ask them to stop cooking now" and went into the kitchen for another 5 mins before returning to give a refund with very little apology. We left hungry and unable to eat before the start of the show. I could understand it if it were a one off but other people at the bar had the same experience and demanded a refund. I would definitely NOT recommend this place for food to anyone.

Went in on a Wednesday night - quiz night. Lovely pint of IPA from the St Austell brewery (I forget the name). Only one other beer on though, Courage Directors, which my friend said wasn't great.

Good pub, and nice selection of beer and lager.

Great food and very relaxing. friendly staff.

Very much a foody pub. Just went in there Sunday afternoon for a quick pint. I had the IPA and my GF had the Director's. Both were good although I'm not 100% sure my beer was actually IPA. There were quite a few people having the carvery at the time. Service was fine (I think the manager was around). Certainly not as bad as the review from 03/10/06 would suggest.

Was an interesting place years ago when it had it's games room at the back. Sadly now it's a crap version of a Wetherspoons/Yates with even less character, less soul, less atmosphere and the staff are... well, retarded. Avoid.

Average food, not bad beer selection (wide variety of commercial beers + speckled hen and pedigree). Average beer garden, average service.
