Kenilworth's oldest pub dating back 450 years apparently although there was substantial repair in the early 19th century. As befits an old building, there are plenty of nooks and crannies, a snug and parlour and it's generally nice to look at. Ales were all from the Everards Brewery - Sunchaser, Beacon Hill, Tiger and Old Original. I tried a pint of Old Original which was in very good condition although I found it to be rather bland in taste. Bar service was instant despite there being plenty of customers last night and, if this were my local, I imagine I'd be spending a fair bit of time in there too.

A lovely interior, friendly staff and to be honest I am a little disappointed that I will not be eating here, I really like the look of the menu but we're eating at a place called The Cross tonight
Inside and out this place is a lovely. Beer wise the usual everard beers plus a guest and draft cider. A little pricey but the type of place you don't mind the little extra. The food menu looks super with a great tie selection.

Very disappointed I think this pub has lost that loving feeling in 12 months, bar staff more interested in themselves beer most expensive in area, ale ok but other pubs within half mile better,it needs a good clean, shame!

This is a massive old fashioned pub which had a range of Real Ales on, mainly Everard's, which was no bad thing. I don't think I've ever had Everard's before and all three pints were really tasty. Loved them. We ate a spot of lunch, I had the Ploughman's and the wife had the Club Sandwich. Utterly delicious! And big portions. It was a bit quiet when we went in, but it was 3:00 on a Tuesday after a Bank Holiday. The staff were friendly. I would only say that the place could do with a thorough dusting. It was clean, but dusty.
We really liked the place and would return!

popped in with mate had nice pint of sunchaser he had lousy pint of fosters (but that his own fault for drinking coloured water)bit pricey sat outside relaxed smoking area.

This is a massive pub, and very busy. But it's divided in to lots of smaller areas, so it actually feels quite cosy. There's a smallish dinig area out the back, so if you're thinking of eating you're better off booking. The menu is predominantly filipino, with all staters and about two thirds of the mains being this genre. If you don't fancy that there's also a few more traditional pub meals such as lasagne, sausage & mash, fish & chips, etc. We had the filipino options though, and enjoyed it. We were both really pleased with all three of our courses which is unusual, and it was quite reasonably priced. Unlike some of the previous contributors we found the service to be quick, friendly and efficient in spite of all the tables being full including a couple of very big parties. They were three real ales on tap, including Sly Fox "with a cunning hint of ginger" which was unusual but not unpleasant! They also had Strongbow and Bulmers cider.

Great beer and food, let down by absolutely abysmal service!

This place was really busy last Thursday when I was in at about 2200. I think "rammed" is the current expression. I was pleased that all ages and persuasions seemed to be present and all were enjoying themselves. The "Beacon" was superb and although I was on my own I wasn't made to feel out of place in such a crowded bar. Very professional bar staff ensured that nobody had to wait too long to be served and they were still smiling after a busy session.I'm sure I'll be back if I ever go to Kenilworth again.

The Virgins is a great place, this was teh place i visited most frequently when i stayed in Kenilworth this last weekend, i had a brilliant meal in here, i had the belly pork which was done with soy and lovely steamed rice, very simple but absolutely beautiful, the ale was in fine condition, i tried the Everards Tiger and Original and also the guest beer which was called Great Crested Newt, lovely pint! the staff are friendly and the place ouses atmosphere and charachter and has plenty of rooms to go and find, this the place to go and find!! if you want a decent Indian in Kenilworth go to the new high street at Abbey End and you'll find the Sumna Balti House, superb!

This is a GBG regular, an Everards pub. It was serving Everards Tiger, Beacon, Sunchaser, Original and Chocolate Ale (mild) as well as London Pride. This place has history as it started life as 2 pubs . The menu was english and japanese. 12 single malts are offered and the is a lovely garden to the rear.
I like The 'V's' and always have. They accept non-locals as much as locals and they don't all stare if a group of you all get a little rowdy with laughter. The beauty of the pub is all the little rooms. You can have a whole room to yourselves if there is a big group of you, on a quieter evening. The only bad thing...and it's not the pubs fault and can't be helped-is that the beer garden is so popular that it can't cater for the demand some evenings. On the whole, a great pub and I can honestly say I've never had a crap night here!
I hadn't been here for a long time. It got charactor. If I can recomment 1 beer try the Chocolate Ale. It is the everards mild and it beautiful.

We stayed in Kenilworth with friends over the weekend. Friday evening we found our way in here to eat. Nice place. Great menu. Recommemded. 8/10
Had a wonderful afternoon in Kenilworth. Had to visit a few pubs. I agree with most people on this site that this is an excellant pub. Who needs a nice cool lager in the sun when you have sunchaser. 9/10 excellant and recommended place.
Spend a lovely friday lunch time in here. One of the nicest alround places I have ever been in. Has plenty of positive twists that make it individual. The Thai food menu is fantastic, we all thought so.
Im sorry I have just put a review for this place on thinking it was the royal oak. New to this! The Famous Virgins and Castle or V's as I herd it called is nice really nice. The Everards Beers are excellent if eather Everards were cornish or this place was a St Austell or Skinners pub then I would move here!!!!!!!
This is a typical back street local but has a few well kept beers, toilets and near the coventry bus stop.
This is a lovely place. It has charm and character. It is worth looking in all rooms in this place when you visit. The menu looked superb, Wish I had eaten here. Ti menu as well as english.
Excellant place for whileing away an afternoon with a good book.
Enjoyed this place. Living in leicester I Know a good pint of Everrards. Sunchaser my favourite. Thank you
Whilst in Kenilworth tried this place. Highly recommended.
Popped in before the old bakery opened. Nice place. Needs some money spending on it though. Everards Beers are good and the 'Sunchaser' I drank was nice. Menu looked good.
This is a lovely pub. The is a very good selection of beer. As Everards are still a family run business this shows positively in there beer. The was a lovely sounding ti menu which I will try the food when I am hungry. It looked good though. Great place to drink in the afternoon before the 'Old Bakery' opens.
Was in the area on business - very nice would recommend to anyone who was coming to the area !
Generally a lively crowd in here of an evening but the beer is sometimes hit and miss. A few different areas to loiter in which adds to the character of the place. Very good a couple of years back but sliding a little. Still a respectable establishment.
interesting post from londinieres. I'm not mad on this place so much these days, the standard of the beer isn't too bad although a certain little place just down the road is alot better. However, why is there no Davenports around anymore? what happened to that stuff? open until 12 now so thats ok
Had lunch recently, sushi to start which was great, main courses not brilliant, but taht said still better than what most places turn out! Enjoyed the wine (am I allowed to talk about wine on this website?) and they let us "try before you buy" which was good. Nice little patio out the back.
Ah the V's ... 600 years ago - there was a tunnel connecting the castle to the pub where the virgins of the town could run to escape deflowerment. 20 years ago - I could buy a Davenports for the princely sum of 1.25. 10 years ago, along with many Kenilworth pubs, they changed it - painted everything - added a teenage creche and filled the pipes with entrails. 5 years ago, they changed it again - tried to make it into a restaurant. Now, it's back to 20 years ago - apart from the prices. Good pub with several different rooms and a back garden and several different beers to choose between.

Welcome return to form for the Vs; I've finally forgiven Greenall's for their last refurb which turned half of it into a gimcrack Beefeater. Now an Everard's pub judging by their omnipresence on the bar, plus London Pride (yawn) and interesting guests. Friendly, capable staff and top notch Filipino food, with plenty of nooks and crannies to enjoy it in.
A time of sadness for this pub, because of the untimely death of the landlord on the 8th October. Over the 4 or so years he had the place, he built an astonishingly good business, converting it from a pub with barely any custom to a thriving affair with a lively clientele. The food is fantastic, the staff are friendly and helpful, and I'm hoping the pub doesn't change hands.
A friendly pub with numerous cosy rooms - a good example of why pubs should not be gutted and left with a souless open-plan layout.
The quality of the beer has been known to vary considerably. They certainly don't serve the best pint in Kenilworth. However, this pub scores well in terms of aesthetics and atmosphere.

Very friendly welcome, Phillapino food a nice tasty change.A real old fashioned pub feel with board games supplied. Very friendly staff...big dark hunk at the bar added allure. Nothing too much trouble, can see us being regulars.
Hurrah for the Vs. Ignoring the removal of its soul 5-6 years ago, its now got something of its old feel back. Fantastic place, possible downer being lack of space in the top bar, but thats just silly sods who dont move away when they've got their pints in.
Sorry...they serve Filipino and not Thai food...although def Sushi...I had it and it was gooood!

I love this pub. We went around christmas time for my birthday and it was all you would want in a pub. Cosy atmosphere (although I know that in the summer its great outside too). Also they now serve Sushi and Thai foo in addition to the traditional pub menu. Really lovely feeling between the staff (expect its a family affair). Friendly, warm and generally a great pub. Nice clean everything! I have to say that this pub is very much worth a visit.!

I agree with the good doctor's comments with one exception. I'm not sure that this is a statistically significant sample but on every other occasion I've been here there has been something wrong with the beer. On one occasion I was served the worst pint of beer I have ever held in my hands: imagine either a dreadfully rank pint scaled up several times or, perhaps, the vat enclosing a swirling Satan in the film Prince of Darkness. It was hard to see how they could have got it so wrong, almost a comic moment except for the fact that I had some difficulty getting them to exchange it. So I have some qualms therefore.

Old old pub in the oldest part of town. Revamped in the 80s with the addition of a large but discreet non-smoking eating area to the left, and a larger hotelly type area to the right, but the old rooms between these remain unscathed. Flagged/bricked/tiled floors in the old parts. Two bars, upper old, lower from the 80s, the latter built from wood reclaimed from old chuches. Garden at rear, recently supplied with lights. Friendly landlord, beer pretty good (usually Young's, Hook Norton, Bombardier) as well as the lagers and keg varieties. Pretty good food, with a specialist Filipino section. Often greek-type foods in the summer. V popular with the local theatre crowd and local fine artists, and the local shopkeepers. Overall a wide range of customers. Highly recommended, but can be a tad gloomy at dusk.
