I so agree with nirvanerd. The bloke is rude, horrible and self important (can you tell I fell out with him?) He actually pulled the glass of wine out of my Mother in Law's hand when we went there for Sunday lunch because I denied that the car parked in his space was mine, and threw us all out. We didn't have a car with us. We didn't pay either.

lovely pub just a shame its got such a bad manager avoid

I came here last sunday for a roast dinner with my family. The roast beef was excellent. The staff were lovely even if we were late!! (sorry mix up our side) and the Otter ale was in perfect condition. The outside area will fill up in the summer as it is a lovely location (go for a walk afterwards) some previous reviews might put you off but i felt it was a warm and freindly place that I look forward to returning to. By the way 10/10 for the Banoffee pie..(i consider myself an expert!!!) I will return when i am next in the West Country.

This was an excellent pub in the 1980s when it was a Heavitree house. The last time I visited was about 15 years ago. I won't go back again.

More a restuarant than a pub. Opening hours unpredictable, seems to shut after early evening diners finish eating. Notices banning dogs, cycles and the like. Even if you do want to eat the menu looks a bit esoteric

Popped in for a pint at the end of a walk along the river from Ottery St Mary, and sat in the sunny garden. Otter Bitter and Ale were pleasant.
A couple arrived - (evacuated to the village during the war & now visiting from Australia) - looking for a bite to eat and were turned away: "We close at 2.30" Their dream of an English village idyll shattered. These days trade must be scarce so why turn away custom? Oh, England, my England!
The food on the blackboard looked ambitious. And uncheap.
Hmmm.

Weird and expensive terrible food and dirty glasses. This is not a local pub offering good food at all ! Owned by a big chain so not a real freehouse.Clearly using Nominated food suppliers.

I really have tried with this place but a village local it isn't and the welcome is pretty luke warm. Beer over priced and the food is confusing. are you a pub or a restaurant
|
This is not a pub, it is an expensive restaurant that looks like a pub. But would it survive as it was meant to be. Is it an asset to the village or would it be better for the locals if it was turned into housing for the amount of use they have from it. Make a nice Post Office.
