Hey adda
What did you expect the staff to do? They apologised but short of getting a sniffer dog what exactly could they have done. Its your bag, look after it! A conspiracy? Be very careful what you alledge and if you didn't see the thief take your bag from your table how do you know no one passed you to get out the back door?
Im sure every pub in London has this problem, not so much the thieves themselves but customers who leave their stuff lying around unattended and shout blue murder at bar staff when it gets nicked. And dont tell me you were watching it or it was under your table cause someone managed to get it with out being seen. Was it on the back of your chair perhaps?
A city of 8 million people will contain a few bad guys, that's why its your responsibility to look after your stuff. You wouldnt leave your bag lying on the street while you went to buy something or go to the toilet and expect it to still be there when you come back, why act differently in a pub?

AWFUL!It was a nightmare our first and last visit there! After a pleasant lunch with old friends found in London, 3 hours before our flight to Dublin, we realized that one of our handbags was stoled! The staff from there only appologized but didn't do anything to help us! Could be a conspiracy between the thieves and the staff, because the pub has two doors on two streets and nobody get out through the back door, where we're seated by! All our papers were in that bag, so our holiday was finished from that moment! Especially more that the police, which we hard found, was more interested of the brand of the bag, phone, wallet... as the second day they closed the case!!! We avoided to enter at Asian's in the City (where we lived)and lost a lot of money in an English pub in the center!!!And remained with a bitter taste from our first visit to London/England...What a shame for a civilized society!

I quite like this pub, don't visit on a regular basis but have always found it to be good whenever I pop in. Good service and good drinks.

Nothing really wrong with place, but it's a bit gloomy towards the back. Service OK. London Pride also OK, but sold at 3.01 per pint which must be the daftest price in town with all that fiddling for change on one side of the bar or the other...

I had walked pst this pub several times, but without ever going in because from outside it looks very dark and cavernous.
Once I gave it a try, though, and was pleasantly surprised. very quiet and nice, lots of separate spaces where one can have some room for himself. beer was good, did not try the food, personnel all right and loo in order.
Will go back.

Wretched in the daytime when rather like the Bunch of Grapes it serves as a refuge from over dressed Russian and Middle Eastern millionaires in Harrods and the Sloane St fashion stores
In the evening though it's better and can serve as somewhere to meet friends or colleagues for a quiet drink.

Live locally but have avoided here since an awful visit last year.Heard it had a refurbishment some time ago l gave it a go last week, and what did we find?Still awful with same probs, iffy beer, half menu not available, indifferent staff and same rude landlady as before.Place does look ok but will not return.Recommend either Bunch of Grapes or Tattersalls if in Knightsbridge.

Just had a refurbishment but they don't seem to have ruined the interior. The pool table has gone and the rear area is now dedicated to food. Beer is of average quality.

an unusual mix of people, good pub as long as it doesn't get too busy

Went there last week. Rubbish service downstairs so went upstairs to be greeted by a very fit young colombian girl. Beer was ok, was a bit of a nancy boy/poncey atmosphere, but would only go back to have another gander and chat with the Latina bird

Passing-trade sort of place, can get crowded but there is an upstairs. Cosy enough to get out of the stream of tourists and Harrods customers.

Fair enough, 'ex-staff'. I'll pay another visit.
OK, just a quick half - 13 May 2004 16:53 |

The Gloucester suffers from two problems. One is the customers, who have been busy spending their (or someone else's) money in shops of Sloane Street and who come in looking for a glass of white wine but it has to be the right sort of white wine don't you have anything better than Pinot Grigiot and this table is filthy now do you serve truffles...and the second is the bar staff, who are only too happy to tolerate this sort of bollocks and ignore the people who just want a pint of Directors.
Choose your time carefully, however, and it can be OK. Good jukebox.

Went here Jan 02. Nice pub but closes early. Great nooks and crannys to sit in.

This pub obviously relies on the passing trade of Sloane St. If loud music is your thing, come here. Food is generally boil in the bag stuff. Hot and smokey.
