The barman was clearly unhappy at having to break off his conversation to serve us. Pint of Ringwoods was too cold. We found better pubs during our stay in the New Forest where our custom was appreciated.

Great pub. Lovely and relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Also very dog friendly. Was a great day to visit on a wet day with people to talk to and a love open fire. A place you feel you could relax in all day if you did not have to drive home. Beer was good. Food menu looked inviting but we were eating later on in day so did not try. They have dog friendly accommodation so we hope to go back next year probably.

Fantastic pub - as someone else said, the local you wish was your local. Really wonderful, helpful, friendly but down-to-earth staff, great grub - foodie without being poncy - roaring log fires, big garden, resident gorgeous dog and many friendly regulars (and their dogs, and the occasional donkey or owl!) Very relaxing, board games by the fire and a chat with the locals - who could beat that? And before it all sounds too butch, fresh flowers everywhere too! Couldn't be nicer (until they put in another heated smokers area at the back when it'll be evne better for me - great to have one already there but maybe needs a few plant pots or summat until then?) Can't wait to go back. Oh and amazing rooms for B&B with best brekkie by the fire - sigh!

I am surprised that I have never left a review about the Turfcutters before. Over the years we have used this pub 100's of times.
Top pub with good quality food & extensive menu, well above the usual fare on offer at many other establishments & at sensible prices. Last Sunday most of us choose the Venison stew with dumplings. Really excellent.
The range of beers is not too exciting, but adequate. Ringwood best, 49'er & Doom Bar. The plus side is that it is very well kept, never had a bad pint there.
Another big plus is the New Zealand landlord. Great character who usually takes time to move through the tables for a chat with the clients. He even managed to smile after the All Blacks defeat at the weekend.
Now a tip if you dinning on a cold day. Book a table on the bar side of the pub which has a large open fire. The dinning rooms to the left of the door as you enter can get rather chilly.
Thats my only gripe. This is a pub full of character, dogs & locals. If you want chrome bar fittings, a flat screen tv & a pool table choose another pub.
I love it. My rating 8.5

Found this one by accident when driving - there was a hand painted sign half buried in the hedgerow! Very nice little country pub. Beer, ambience and service all very good. Foodwise I have to slightly disagree with most other reviewers. My gammon with all the trimmings was first rate but my wife's Spanish vegetable quiche was almost completely devoid of vegetables and was also very undercooked. To be fair it did look bought in rather than home made so its deficiencies may have gone unnoticed. Certainly not deterred from visiting again.

Great pub, good food, well kept ale, wonderful location and dog friendly. Top marks.
|
Great pub and well worth a detour. Beer is well kept and the food is good too. Highly recommended.
|
Excellent, unspoilt country pub with good (Ringwood) but pricey beer. Haven't tried the food but it looks ok and is clearly popular.

Came here for a drink after a very disappointing experience at the Red Lion in Boldre & wished we'd come here first. Much better experience - better atmosphere, same choice of beer & better (& cheaper) food choices. Will definitely return here rather than the pub in Boldre.

Oh what a quality pub. Turned up on Saturday for a weekend in the district.., manager and staff very helpful. Reasonable prices , but most of all the manager was so helpful( did I mention that? lol) will be back in Summer. Thank you so much for making a weekend into a great weekend., oh and there is no fish under the ice lol

Friendly, proper locals pub where strangers are welcomed, too (we're not locals). Dogs allowed, children, too. Food good and good portions though perhaps not desperately adventurous. Beer very well-kept. Landlord friendly but keeping an eye on things and retaining control. Basically a sound recipe for a popular pub -- sort of what all pubs need to look to if they want to survive and thrive in these awkward times...

We travelled out many miles due to the game menu, wanting to give my Dad a birthday treat, however there was nothing from the game menu available. We had an ok meal, pork, and the portions were not massive.....left hungary and disappointed.

What a great pub! Great food, excellent beer (we had the Ringwoods Best and 49ers) and a very friendly, helpful staff, all in a picturesque setting. Definitely deserves the many positive posts on this and other sites.

Really nice here lovely location and cracking beer really nice home cooked food and a very welcoming young chap behind the bar well worth the visit

Popped into the Turfs the other night. Been drinking on and off in here for years and years. I'd heard a rumour it had been gutted and turned into a generic wine bar type pub. I was happy to see this wasn't the case when I went in recently. All the character remains. Good range of ales. It has a Cask Mark too. It is a proper forest pub, only a few of which remain unspoilt.
|
Unspoilt, unrestored New Forest public house which serves large portions of excellent food. The beer is well kept too - I'll be back!
|
I love this place and being born in the NF,it's great that it's been left unspoilt and still VERY POPULAR. Always a friendly atmosphere I find. Beer well kept and top Menu.
|
Traditional country pub with scattered large wooden tables and a good pint. Arrived as last diners from Sunday lunch were leaving, but no food Sunday evening otherwise might have stayed longer
|
Lovely pub with friendly staff and good food that's reonably priced, big thumbs up!
|
The pub does do good pub food, and is friendly, but what is the awful smell in the bar when you walk in ? Only appeared when the no smoking ban came in. Also the garden and rear carpark needs a good clean and tidy up.
|
We stayed at this pub for a couple of nights. I agree with all of the comments below that the food and drink are very good and that you are made to feel very welcome by the staff and the locals. My only slight negative is that the accommodation is very basic but is probably suitable for cyclists/walkers.

A great cycling destination from Roundwood campsite. Wonderful, friendly landlord and staff. Friendly locals, dogs, good food and nice pint.
Extensive selection of whiskies: all the standard vintages plus a wide range of special bottles. Poured with a generous hand and solid knowledge, too.

Have eaten here (with the wife and kids) in the evening 3 times in the past few years whilst on hols !! Good well priced food (large portions as well) and drinks always spot on. The staff and predominately 'regular' customers are all friendly and make you feel welcome.
Would recommend it anyone passing by.
