Went in today with the Mrs and the outlaws for her mums birthday. Great spread, and a good range of ales on. Had a couple of pints of the mosaic pale ale after being invited to taste a couple before buying. Friendly staff, will def go back.

Came here for lunch with a large group, about 25 of us, three weeks ago on a cold Wednesday. All the staff are very young, but there was one who was excellent, loud voice, but made sure everyone got what they wanted and what they'd ordered. We'd only given notice of our arrival about 2 hours beforehand, so they did well to please us. Beer - several bitters, Peroni. It's best in the summer, like most country pubs. I thought it an improvement on when I was last there.

Was subject to a ram raid in March 2009 ('A Mitsubishi Shogun ripped a massive hole in the front of the building after smashing through a wall into the lounge bar, leaving a scene of destruction.') which answers an earlier question. Haven't been back since it re-opened as the bar billiards table had been moved out and is now in the Eight Bells. I do remember it however as a good venue, with good food and and extensive choice of wines on offer.

I have eaten here quite a few times over the last year and the food has always been great. They always have a good selection of ales, and the staff have always been friendly and helpful. It can be a bit smoky occasionally if its windy outside, but thats the price you pay for having 2 lovely real open fires! They can't control the weather!

My family and I first visited this pub over the christmas period as we have just moved into the area, and I can honestly say it is one of the best pubs I've been to in a long time. The service is fantastic, the staff polite and the food excellent. So glad to have a nice local I know I'm always welcome in.

We ate here last week, very very disappointed. We had lunch, food was very average, the plough-persons (as they call it) was absolutely terrible, who serves it with toasted bread, my advice is dont play with a ploughmans unless you can get it spot on!!! The chef was constantly out wandering around, i am sorry but chefs should be in the kitchen, we dont want to see a chef in dirty Whites and looking very untidy, serving food or hanging around out front (even if he is one of the owners, he should know better!!)

This is a awful pub the service is bad and the food is awful and over priced. I wont be eating hear again.

Twice when I've visited there has been something wrong with the chimney and smoke has filled the place. Hard to get served if you just want beer, they want you to eat too. Busy place at weekends. Is much needed in the area.

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday (20/09/09). I made the mistake of ordering the soup of the day which turned out to be so fierce (and I like spicey food) that I could eat little of it and couldn't taste anything that followed. I mentioned this to the server, asking her to let the chef know but she later said she hadn't. The service was generally indifferent.

Open again, and busy as I cycled past last week.

anyone know why its closed?

Nice cosy country pub. Think it may be more food orientated than beer though. When I went here recently the Harveys and London Pride were both off as was the Hophead after I had tried my vinegary pint, leaving only the Directors which was fine.

Nice country pub, apparently just been taken over, I think the new owners are doing a good job so far, it's changed a lot since I last visited, but the food was excellent and there was a lovely atmopshere. We sat outside in the garden and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Definately go back!

Lovely country pub, four real ales, excellent food. What more can I say? Er...Friendly staff, log fires, decent tunes on the stereo. Unfortunately the friends I was visiting will be moving from the area shortly, so I'll need to find another excuse to go back!
