Smart, good food, good beer, good service.
A little bit chainy feel to the place. You can see from the external notice boards the type of place its trying to be and the type of punters it wants to attract.
Does things well.

A very deceptive looking pub from the outside as it appears to be long and thin but there's a large dining room at the rear that was very busy even though it was only just gone 1pm on the Sunday I visited.
8 ales on the pumps with the majority being Scottish, I had the house brew from Belhaven along with a summer ale from Caledonian, the house brew being particuly good.
Interesting interior with a lot of exposed stone walls and a mix of carpets and wooden floors. A full range of GBG's sit on a shelf between the bar and restaurant.
I decided to eat here so I plumped for the beef and Ale pie with mash and veg. Good value at just under £9.00, decent size meal though the mash was bit lumpy.
All in all a nice pub, with a good range of ales and decent food.

Good selection of beer including the finest offerings from Belhaven (It is a Belhaven Pub, afterall). Food and Bar intergration wasn't brilliant after waiting about 20 minutes for a table, the barman then told us our table was ready, unfortunately the restaurant staff didn't "have you booked, sorry - no chance of food tonight", thankfully for us starving chaps the bar chap sorted a table out for us. 10 OUT OF 10 for the beer though.

Friendly bar with a good range of well-kept real ales - seven to choose from on my visit.

This should never be classed as a pub.Atmosphere=zero, beer average and food bland. They should make up there mind, pub or restaurant as it worked as neither for us.

Great to see Belhaven 80/- on the other night - beats the Bury St Edmunds imports hands down... Generally excellent; friendly without being intrusive and good food when required.

Excellent real ale pub with up to 8 real ales some of which change on a regular basis. Real ale festivals are held twice ayear at end of May and Oct when the handpumps go to twenty. Good range fresh cooked food

An Ok local pub, more famous for it's beer. The Pub food has been a bit inconsistent of late and service can be ...slow. It would be good to see less quantity and more quality on the food side.

Excellent pub with a well maintained selection of cask ales, friendly owners (Ian & Eve) and some excellent staff. Proper 'old pub' style but it can be busy at times and the clientele can be a bit introverted. A great place to go for an afternoon pint and a natter with friends though.
Food is pub fare, but generally good. Prices are reasonable too. You'll probably want to book most evenings and at lunch/dinner times at the weekend. Babies/prams etc. have to go through the back into the dining area 'proper' and there are no changing facilities, but the staff are accomodating if you have youngsters.
Twice-yearly beer festivals are popular, you'll find 20-22 cask ales on tap and a t-shirt is up for grabs if you can sample the lot, over the two days if necessary. I've tried 5 or 6 times but never managed it...yet!

So popular is this place that it was difficult to find a seat on a midweek evening. Some would argue that the beer is an attraction, with a choice of eight real ales but the rear room (which is the eating area at night) was pretty busy too. Smart and unpretentious the key to success.

One of the best oubs in the area. Always a great selection of beer and regular beer festivals. Good food makes it popular with locals so book early if you want to eat here.
