Well must say can’t understand last post. this pub has drastically turned around in last couple months. New manager and staff have cleaned in and out. Even the beer is drinkable now. Music on Fridays and Saturdays and it’s cheapest in town. Heard a refit is due so even more to look forward to. Still a locals pub

Kind of gone the opposite to the last poster - used to be somewhere to drop by but now it's somewhere to avoid.
|
Well, this used to be an "avoid" pub. Not any more though. They seem to be getting away from that rough image and reputation that they had in the past. I've been in a few times in the past 5/6 months and it's been fine. Nice to see live music here at the weekends too. Definitely better.

Was pleased to see this pub now selling good real ales, in the past they have been rather toxic but the new management seem to be on top of them.
Visited this pub on a Thursday night and was good to see it busy, the staff were very welcoming.
Will definetly be re visiting.

A cosy oasis of calm form the High Street outside. Like walking in to someone's front room. Unfortunately it's a McMullen's house.

The Kings Head was in danger of disappearing but the new management have made an incredible difference. It's still very much a local pub, more soul & atmosphere than the Misty Moon and less cliquey than some of the other local watering holes. First rate bar staff, professional & friendly but not intrusive. Well stocked and the beers are well kept. Jukebox with every hit since the charts started and played at an appropriate volume for the ambience of the pub at that moment. It's easy to get comfortable in the Kings Head and stay a few drinks longer than expected.

i have been drinking in the kings head for the last 3 years, and what people have stated below is for the most part true, well it was, for the lats 2 months the King Head has been under new management and i have never been so impressed by a pubs turn around.
the landlord is a nice guy and always up for a laugh, the bar staff are alway happy and welcoming to customers, the fridges are always stocked now as well as having more than one cast ale on draft as well as having a nice amount of people in it nearly all the time. the beer garden located at the rear and side of the pub is a nice place for chilling out with friends over a nice drink.
entertainment on the weekend is good and brings in a nice crowd and the pub is never dead on the weekend anymore.
The Kings Head is now a very very nice place to drink for the whole family, and i would recommend everyone to go there and try it out them self, even if they have been in there before

Great little pub, with a new manager who makes everyone feel welcome. Nice beer and a great saturday night atmosphere.

I wasnt at all impressed with this pub as it seems that maybe the managers have let it run down. There are seven ale pumps, three of which are unused and the other four are for the AK, which was OK. Guinness, Stella, Fosters and Strongbow were also on, so hardly a wide and varied choice of draught refreshment is available.
I popped in on Saturday night and was quite surprised that there were only 4 other customers as this is a high street boozer and the Mitre and After Office Hours next door were pretty busy. I was even more surprised that when I left there was only one person left, not that this bothered the barman who seemed to be having fun playing with the dog behind the bar.
There are two old TVs, but I didnt spot any sport advertised so Im not sure if they have Sky. There are also two dartboards and a pool table. Strangely the pool table is on the oche of one of the dartboards so maybe there is some strange pooldart game that is played in Hertfordshire that I have not come across before. The only other entertainment was the humming of the extractor fan over the deafening silence.
This could be a great pub, but sadly at the moment it is not any where near it.

havent been in for a couple of years but nice enough place for a couple b4 a meal at the excellent spice carrige indian restraunt next door. for better beer and atmosphere go 20 yards down the road to the mitre

Now I might be missing a point here. This used to be a nice pub with good atmosphere. However the owners have turned it into a dive, mis-match seating, poor decor, but increased prices making it one of the most expensive pubs in the area. The only real question is how they have managed to keep it open. Staff surly at best.

This is the best local pub you will find. Theres no other pub in the area where you can go up to a complete stranger and have a talk about nothing without feeling as if your intruding. The locals all know each other and are friendly with their own unique interesting stories, most of which im sure are made up or exagerated on some level.

Used to watch the footy in here on the odd Sunday. Can't be bothered now tho - I was having a cigar on one occasion, the miserable excuse of a bar-maid stomped up and snatched the ash-tray from the table. 'Nah smarkin' in this bit - carn cha read?', she said, pointing to a NS sign above my head, which measured approximately 6 x 8MM. When I opined that the sign was a little small, and her manner was unacceptable, she just stomped back to her sad existence. Oh - and the beer's about nine quid a pint.

i can only say - we have tried this pub on several different ocasions over last 5 years - it has no atmosphere and an unusual sort of clientele - just cant put my finger on it - but just dont bother going.
