A beautiful setting for a place to have a pint. Sitting out by the harbour on the benches and enjoying a balmy evening as the sun was setting. Had two of the Fyne ales - one a new one called Jarl, which was like being punched in the face with hops; lovely!! No veggie food at all on the menu (starters or mains - WTF??), so we left only having the two and went off in search of somewhere else to eat. Would rather have stayed for more beers and had some food, but there you go........

Super real ale in a lovely setting (even though there was horizontal rain outside!).

(The food was scrummy, too.)

visited the steampacket with my wife for a couple of days... booked deluxe room 35 pp b and b... basic room but good size with separate bathroom (bath and shower) with excellent view over old harbour.
owner alastair and staff all very friendly.
full breakfast very good... also able to order manx kippers if required.
real ales on tap in the bar..
but the outstanding aspect of this pub is the food... dinner exceptional... wonderful food well presented and a nice wee dining room with log fire.
if you fancy a bit of peace and quiet and a walk or two maybe then this is the place if you're in the area.

I used to visit this pub when I was little with my parents and Nanny. She has a cottage nearby there. I'd love to go back there because I remember the food was vay tasty and it had such a comfy atmosphere! Plus my favourite film The Wicker Man was filmed nearby!

This is my local and I can only agree with Stephen's comments, whether you visit by land or sea it is well worth a visit. The Packet has two dining rooms, one smoking and one non smoking, and the food really is special. Last year won the coveted award for "pub food of the year" for the whole of Scotland. It is advisable to pre-book a table if you wish to dine in one of the restaurants as the reputation makes it a busy place. All beers are maintained in tip top condition (especially the tenants lager as Alastair the manager is a connoisseur)!
