Reopened as Quayside Bar today at 16:00. Run by young couple who used to run a pub in the Midlands. Pub has been refurbished. It is in a prime location with a view of the bay. Not doing food until January. Serving draught beer from Studland Brewery. I had half a Studland Wrecked.

Mowlem restaurant has been sold and is due to reopen in Easter 2012. In excellent location with magnificent sea views. Potentially an excellent pub

Mowlem has closed. It is in a superb location next to beach. If someone served good beer there with reaonably priced food he could not go wrong. 20 years ago you needed to get there by 12:00 to get a window seat and you needed to book in advance for an evening meal in the restaurant.

Changed its name and under new management, but judging by letters in the local press and other reviews online nothing much has really changed.

It looks a bit tatty but don't be put off. We drank downstairs - Badger Best was very good - and sat outside overlooking the sea. We also ate upstairs a couple of times -the food was good, service was efficient and pleasant and the views over to the Isle of Wight were lovely. If you are keen on interior design then it leaves a lot to be desired. Plush red seating and a 60's feel. I quite liked it - ah nostalgia, it reminds you of holidays with your parents.

License for this place is up for sale so should be all change.
Not been to Swanage for a few years but would be interested in hearing what happens. Current owners vacate in November.

Badger Best is always good quality. Prices are average for the tourist-trap that is Swanage. Staff are amazingly rude! They will try their best to ignore you (even though the place is always deserted). They turn on the jukebox to full volume and get a real attitude if you even try to be cheery! Stunning views...

This place is a dump that relies entirely on its sea views.A rundown Sixties building that is a blot on the landscape. My steak bagette was a lump of tough, fatty overcooked meat in a supermarket "bake in the oven" bagette. My wife's celery soup was khaki coloured and looked more like mushroom soup yet, bizarrely, tasted like it had come out of a packet.1 point for the view, otherwise avoid.

I have just returned from a great 2 week holiday in Swanage. Ate at the Mowlem resturant. Great views freshly cooked food really enjoyed it.

A bar with one of the best views and locations (same for the restaurant incidentally) but an example of under-acheivement.
Tatty and slightly run-down. Keeps ales from the Badger brewery but needs to up its game. Indifferent staff don't help.
Charming views across Swanage bay do not compensate enough for such a below-average bar.
