My pint of Proper Job wasn't in tip top condition. Although I normally avoid keg beer like the plaque, I did try half of Mena Dhu Stout and it was very nice. So it should be at £2.25

Service hasn't particularly improved since the last reviewer's visit. Friendly enough but they seemed overwhelmed until just 3 tables remained (15 minutes to get a menu). My pint of Tribute was expensive for this type of place at £3.95. Proper Job is £4.05. Still, my gammon steak was nice (and arrrived quickly once ordered). Patio has a view of an old garage (or similar) and you might be better sitting inside. At the other end of the village in the old school is the Pelynt Social Club which anyone can join for £1 and which sells much cheaper drinks.

We went there for dinner on Saturday night and were told there would be a one-hour wait for food, despite our having booked. There was only one other couple in the dining room besides us, but two other parties arrived soon after. When we ordered, the waitress said it would be a half-hour wait, which it proved to be. The food was excellent. Prices were about average for pub grub, which is not bad for Cornwall in August. The only disappointment was when we wanted to pay. We asked for the bill, which was brought to us, then the waitresses disappeared. You would think having brought the bill, they would return fairly soon to collect it. Apart from that hiccup, a very good evening. Your order your drinks at the bar - a good variety of Cornish ales on offer.

Glad to take refuge from typical Cornish weather - showers in between rain. Tribute, Trelawny and the superb Proper Job on offer.
|
Nice pub with same beers as a couple of years ago. The Proper Job being the most expensive at £3.70 a pint. Good Sunday roasts for £8.95 but very filling.
|
Four beers to choose from, all St Austell's. Black Prince, Proper Job, Trelawny and Tribute. Foot slightly pricey but good size portions. Pleasant and knowledgeable bar girl.

Nice looking pub, decor fine, beer good, staff friendly. Food lousy. 5 of us ate, 4 unhappy with food. Menu description: local caught mussels in garlic and wine with crusty roll and frites. Served after 45 mins: Bowl of small mussels (Same as 2.95 vacupacked sainsburys), no roll, no frites. When challenged, a roll was handed to me (literally) and they didnt know what frites were so I asked why they put it on the menu?. Jubilee curry was a special, but it was no different from a co-op microwave version. There are a few comments suggesting they serve microwave meals and I would agree with this opinion. Shouldnt be charging over 10 quid fir this quality!

We're local business owners in Looe and recently held a 60th wedding anniversary celebration meal at the Jubilee Inn for some regular guests of ours. The friendly staff could not have been more helpful and were attentive without being intrusive. The food was fantastic for our party of 10 with almost all of us choosing something different. We weren't kept waiting long for our meals and when they arrived they were delicious and the portions were generous. We've been several times with friend to eat here too and the food and service has always been exemplary. The prices for food and drink are very reasonable and their bottles of wine are also good value. We like to sample from their special seasonal menus and as a vegetarian, it's so nice to get something a bit different like the stuffed red peppers ricardo - delicious! A firm favourite for quality, service and atmosphere.

Having just read the review by kconroy I cant believe this is the Jubilee they are describing! This is a really friendly inn, and my husband, little boy and I have enjoyed lovely meals there, and have stayed there regularly over the last three years. My son who can be a handful at times doesnt run around and doesnt make a lot of noise because he knows to behave and respect other people, especially when we are out or staying away from home, like we did when our mums and dads took us out. Theres a nice bar with two TVs and a pool table. Lots of room outside, with a big patio and grassed beer garden, that he can run around in if he needs to let off steam! All in all this is a great family and dog friendly pub!

This is not a family friendly pub. I went for a meal during half term week (3/6/10) while on holiday. Our group included five adults, two teenagers and my two toddlers aged 2 and 4. I was made to feel very uncomfortable by comments and looks from the manageress - I was told to stop my children going anywhere near other chairs and tables where they might 'bother' other guests. They were to stay in their seats (difficult while waiting for food with toddlers). Playing pool in the room near the giant sky tv I was told we were making too much noise. Apparently, there was an A.G.M. elsewhere in the pub. Can u reasonably expect A.G.M quiet in a pub in the early evening? It turned out that the A.G.M. was for a local theatrical company. Clearly regulars get priority whatever their demands.

avabeer - with regard to the pricing, it's not strictly controlled by st austell brewery as it's not a 'managed house' pub but a 'tennancy' so the owners do have control over most of the pricing be it food or drink. Saying that though the waiting staff are lovely and the food portions can be fantastic.

I would just like to point out that I really did emjoy the food when i went to the jubilee, staff were great! I live in the local area and will always suggest it to anyone! But I say these things because that is my opinion, and i certainly did not post comments under a different name! All i will say, great pub, and please remember to respect others on this site!

we called in a few weeks ago for a swift one, on the way to the spar shop in plynt. sampled the proper job and finished up having a session . a bit expensive but still good value, i tend to forget about the price when i find a truly remarkable beer. well worth a visit for this alone.

Interesting reveiws of my local Pub. For information my comments are as follows. More of a eatery than a local pub, but St Austell Pricing and a village social club causes that. Not a fan of St Austell beer but will say that it is probably one of the best kept cellars that I know of. As for the food although I do not eat there much, the food is good value for money and from the many comments that I have overheard I would say that over 99% of customers are satified with their experience. Management and staff are always welcoming and helpful even when the pub is overwhelmed with visitors in the summer. Many good events are held during the course of the year which people travel from around the country to attend. For us lepers will say that this pub has the best undercover smoking area in S.E. Cornwall. Dogs and Children are always welcome as long as they keep their owners/parents under control. Very good sized car park and for those who wish to stay the rooms are very clean and "Cornish" breakfast is included.

Over the years I visted many pubs in the County some good, some bad, and some that would make you sign the pledge. I have visted the Jubille and stayed there, before they refurbised the rooms, and after, which are I belive for a pub first class, and deserve the award that they have just achived. The remarks by Skinnersbeer ( Thats a brewrey in Truro )!!!! and gettothepoint I agree with someones view that they seem to have similar theme. My view is: Good pub, lovley staff good honest food wellhot presented priced for what you recive. and I can tell Nuked food and you dont get that there

Stayed here twice last July and this and I don't recognise some of the comments below! Good atmosphere, good beer and wine and great food. Comfortable rooms friendly staff- including the chefs- and landords. I recommend to everyone I know. Keep up the good work!

Will be visiting Cornwall next week and the Jubilee Inn is definitely on my list of places to stop at. On previous visits the food has always been of top quality and freshly prepared , the beer is well kept. It is a friendly pub and the staff will make you feel like it is your local!
|
I am amazed by some of the comments here! We have stayed at the jubilee a couple of times and had fantastic service and lovely meals, a really good menu and a specials board as extra, including local fish, wonderful!! The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room was great! All in all I would recommend it to anyone

I am really unsure of the motives of some of the people who have commented. I have used this Inn many many times and always had a very warm friendly welcome from owners and staff. They are always attentive and provide the personal service you expect from a village pub, no matter how busy they are. The food is all freshly cooked and prepared using fresh ingredients sourced locally where possible. The prices are not the lowest but if you want cheap food go to a national chain pub where they employ microwve operators instead of chefs. Having eaten all from a lunchtime snack to a full gourmet meal the quality has always been top. As a cider drinker it is nice to have a choice of ciders from the fridge with an excellent draught Blackthorn at the correct temperature.

Stayed in the area and paid this place a visit, very busy place with locals and visitors. Fantastic beer from St Austell breweries and kept really well. I'd recommend the black prince to try.. Food - had a bar meal and evening meal, both were well presented, the bar meal being a ploughmans had fresh veg and salad (better than other places i've been to) and the evening meal was a steak pie. thought this was the best pie i'd ever tasted - loads of meat and well cooked veg. almost couldn't eat it but forced myself. Prices -pretty normal for any pub and exactly what i would expect to pay so no surprise. Decor - you really get a village feel , having a slate floor, open fire and good atmosphere. I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone passing, for a small village it's a bit of a gem

Beer Ok but expensive. The food was terrible! How do pubs get away with selling this junk? I had some chicken/bacon thing massacred by the microwave with the envitable oven ready chips and of course - a wallop of garnish. Tacky tables and outdated decor - a dump but popular
|
yes it definitely was the Jubilee Inn..you know.. the one in Pelynt ( is there any other jubille inns in Pelynt ( I dont think so). Funny how "driptrays" and "beerslops" tone and comments are pretty similar...hmm..I'll let you be the judge!
To get to the point ...the food is 0/10 don't care what others are charging or whether the beers good.....its awful you have been warned.
|
I can't understand where gettothepoint was eating, because it definatly was not the jubilee! The beers, notwithstanding (which were varied and great!) constituted only part of a great experience. We had what we considered to be reasonably priced food (check other pub menus you will find the same sort of prices, I should know I eat in many!) which tasted homemade and was cooked beatifully. You do need to book for an evening table though as it does get busy.
|
Went to this pub recently after passing by on many occasions when visiting nearby. To get to the point quite simple the worst food I have ever had the misfortune to taste in a restaurant/pub. How the owners can charge for this without p**ing themselves laughing is beyond me..
Roast Dinner= Microwaved meat. Not real gravy. Nuked veg. Chicken ( was it really chicken? ) in a liddl or similar sauce Garlic Mushroom starters-please lets not even go there.
I thought this kind of food had disappeared in the 70's but it still remains at the Jubillee like a relic. The most amazing thing is it was packed.
Still if you can still make cash ( and it wasn't cheap) by serving this and people still pay ..then I suppose all I can say is well done! And why would you bother to change things? Unless you actually cared about the food.
|
We walked here and then wondered why we had come here. It is a St Austell pub which sells the usual st Austell ales. Very expensive. More restaurant than pub and the food was very basic bought in and microwaved.
|
Highly recommended for Sunday Lunch. Good food, good value, warm welcome. Best visited out of season because when the visitors come in the summer it gets busy. Worth travelling the few miles out from Looe as Looe hasn't a pub good enough to compare with this one.
|
Went up here a few weeks ago for a birthday meal. The food was lovely (although be warned, the brie wedges are VERY big!) and the scallops were to die for. Staff were really friendly, wine list was very extensive. Didnt try the beer but it seemed to be going down well with the other customers! All of the areas are lovely and clean, this place is a proper pub, with very traditional decor. the only advice i would give to anyone is to tun up early if you want to eat, as it fills up very quickly, but i guess his speaks for itself! search it out.
|
Nice place for Sunday roast if the visitors are down here.
|
Changed hands last October. This pub is now fresher, and brighter (and extremely clean) with a good food and drink offering. Prices have gone up recently, but where haven't they? it seems the government would like us all to stay at home! well worth a visit!
|
Beer ok. Its a bit difficult to know where to drink though as the whole place seems to be a restaurant
|
Changed hands again middle of 2007. Now in the capable hands of Charlie and Carole formerly at the Norway Inn, Perranaworthal. Excellent food and friendly efficient service- they have quickly put their unique stamp on the place. Only negatives were problems with a smoky fire apparently caused by blow back from the kitchen fans although it was also very windy on our visit and the high price of a pint of 'Proper Job' albeit compensated by cheaper wine than elsewhere in the area.
|
recently changed hands and the place is all the better for it. Great food and reasonable beer (St Austell Ales). Only pub in the village.
