The Upton Inn is an excellent village inn. It has a very good range of badger beers. The staff can't do enough to help you. The food is of a good standard with many promotions and specials. The pub has a very imaginative approach to is always hosting events such as halloween nights etc. Before the change of ownership this pub was very food orientated - now all are welcome to come along - I am a regular at the excellent quiz night which is always very good fun with lots of banter and atmosphere. This pub quiz the only one I know that has dancing at the end of night if the landlord is in a good mood. The �5 curry is a steal on Monday nights but the highlight of the menu for me is the 6.50 cheese board enough cheese for everyone!

Since the Upton Inn changed hands a couple of years ago I have been a regular client, the 6 mile trip being worthwhile for the friendly welcome ( the staff are trained),the food is excellent, paricularly the 'senior' portions which represent good value, and decent Ale; try the Badger !
The Inn have frequent special events, quiz evenings,parties which ,although I am a 'lunchtime chap' I gather are well supported. The number of lunchtime customers at this rather off the beaten track Pub indicates how successful it is being run. The Car Park is large and for those arriving on 4 legs there are facilities to tether horses.
An adverse report made a year ago is completely at odds with the experience of myself & other cusomers. Was it a deliberate 'spoiler'?

Myself and my family visit this pub frequently and have to say that the food and service is second to none. This is a great local pub and as a family we use it often.
The Sunday carvery is always lovely and a highlight of the week for the children. Our highlight of the week however is the Monday night quiz which is always a good laugh.
In times where local pubs are closing at an extrondinary rate I believe we should get behind them and suport them as much as we can.

The Upton Inn used to have an excellent reputation for food. But now the food is over-rated and over priced.
The Sunday carvery is nothing special, certainly not 'out-of-this-World' and the standard menu is far too pricey - the management really should visit some other pubs to see the competition (and find out what really good value for money is) . . . too many pubs are closing down and it would be a shame for Upton Cheyney to lose it's village pub.
The decor of the main pub is traditional and is totally at odds with the decor of the 'restaurant' area - a very strange mix of styles which doesn't work and only succeeds in highlighting the tattiness of the main bar.
Some of the seating in the main bar is filthy, covered in disgusting stains. I'm not adverse to spit-n-sawdust pubs, but expect more from a pretty country pub that charges restaurant prices.
It would appear that it's still trading on its reputation from many years ago and its current 'success' (it's still open) is due mainly to the fact that its the only pub in the village and its nearest competitor has closed down.
Previous owners really made an effort in the summer with beautiful hanging baskets and beds, but last year I don't think they even bothered weeding the beds and no hanging baskets . . . a poor show for a country pub.
With regards to the post from Jamie Pike . . . he is the 'new owner' . . . so no surprise he's bigging it up.
Could do better. Hope they do better.

This is a Hall & Woodhouse pub � they had Tanglefoot; Lemon Cricket; and Badger Bitter on. I had the latter, which was OK and at �2.60 a pint pretty reasonable priced compared to London prices, where I normally drink. The pub consists of several interconnecting rooms, or dining/drinking areas. This is very much a destination pub as it seems to be on a road leading nowhere special (no offence to Upton Cheyney residents, I just think that most people using Brewery Hill are going to the pub!). It is very food orientated. There looked to about 40 to 50 people in there on Wednesday lunchtime, and apart from my companion, all were eating. On arrival we were greeted with the question �are you dining with us today?� I only had a sandwich, but the main meals others were eating looked very good indeed, and certainly not overpriced. So, overall, this is more a restaurant than just a drinkers� pub, but it was very clear when we arrived that it was OK if we didn�t want to eat, and I would be happy to have this as my local if I lived there.

This pub has had a change of ownership and is now a real gem again. They�ve refitted the restaurant and given everything a really sympathetic tidy up. The food price is very reasonable and they have a whole host of great offers now.
The traditional pub menu has all of the usual favourites and it�s complimented by a really good specials board if you fancy something well �Special�.
The Seniors menu is a great idea, smaller portions for smaller prices. They have a Juniors kids menu and I�ve been several times on a Sunday and their carvery is out of this world.
My family are regular attendees at the Monday night quiz and it�s a real hoot, they give away �250 in cash prizes every week for the first five place winners and the famous wooden spoon for the less successful, a great night out I can�t recommend it enough. �2 entry and they even put on a fabulous curry for �4.99.
I�m really impressed with the food, the service, the drinks and the price; it�s nice to have a really decent pub to depend on at last.

I agree with the previous reviewer. Although the food is a bit more expensive than some in the area, it is good. What I found odd was that they only do waitress service, which means several minutes wait before you even see a menu ! But as the only Badger ales house this far north it's worth as visit.

Lovely village pub on a hill. The hand-pumped Badger ales are seasonal and very well kept - served just perfect and in their own unique glasses. The "Pickled Partridge" was particularly nice.
Not sure if the food lives up to the prices they had posted though!

I found the food very expensive for pub food and would expect to pay these prices at a top restaurant.
