I visited this pub on my first ever visit to Torquay last week and found it to be absolutely excellent. The staff were friendly and accommodating at all times and the beer, well, for me as a first time tryer of Proper Job and Rattler cider, I was in alcoholic heaven and didn't know what to drink next. Usually went about six and the dining-room was always full until they stopped serving food at 9. All the food was home-made and absolutely delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone.

St Austell Brewery pub on Babbacombe Downs. There are four handpumps dispensing brews from St Austell - HSD, Proper Job and Tribute, and a cider. My pints of Proper Job tasted fine but they were completely flat. The barmaid's unasked-for attempt to liven the second with a sparkler inevitably failed. It looks and feels more like a restaurant than a pub. My visit was late afternoon and the place was virtually empty so maybe it livens up later. I won't be rushing back.

Not the best pub I've been in and not the worst. The ale I had was drinkable and well kept, but the place just lacks spark. The view from the front patio was worth the trip though!

Of the many places to drink along Babbacombe promanade this was the worst one we visited. The decking area was dirty and not great for sun worshippers like us. Also the larger was uninspiring and was the most expensive place we went to all day.
We will give this one a miss in future.

St Austell Proper Job was nice enough and there was a nice view out the front but the bar itself was pretty unremarkable.

On the front overlooking the bay is the Buccaneer Inn in Babbacombe.
3 ales from St Austall, HSD, Proper Job and Cornish Pale Ale. I had the CPA which was very good and the HSD which was exceptional.
I ordered the mussels as a lunch time snack, as well as being good value they were very good.
With the weather being poor the War veterans parade was rained off meaning most of the crowd were in the Buccaneer. Good friendly crowd mixed with locals and all in all very pleasant.

Nothing very special about this place, apart from the views from out front. But it's a nice enough place; the staff are friendly and the Tribute very drinkable. The food's very reasonably priced too, but also nothing you'd go out of your way for. If you're nearby, you could do a great deal worse.

Pretty average seafront boozer with wide screen sport and lager. Tribute on the bar in average condition, we soon found better places to drink ale in the area. Specifically, despite it's appearance, the Royal Hotel almost next door that had a stunning pint of Jail Ale.

Called into this St Austell pub on Friday while staying in a non real ale hotel, and enjoyed the Buccaneer Ale that is really Propoer Job under the pub name. Friendly staff and nice clean pub.

Have visited several times when down in the area over last 10 yrs. All the pubs in this area have prime seafront views so don't really have to try that hard, as most of them don't sadly. This one however is the best there, a proper pub, clean, decent beer, not sure who runs it now but a couple of years back there was a very nice friendly new boss who I think was South African.
Only crticisms: sometimes bar service very slow, depending on who is at the bar. Some customers who have come in have been a bit mouthy and intimidating to folks like us who they didn't recognise, especially in the pool area. Sorry, just our experience on a few occassions.

revisited on a holiday trip last week. would re-iterate my previous comment from last year. st.austell tribute, hsd, buccaneer on as cask. one of the few places in babbacombe I can consistently get a good pint o cask with a decent head!.

Nice although rather pricey, but the beer was well kept and different from most other pubs in the area. As well as HSD and Tribute they also had another St Austell beer called Buccaneer when I was there. Its in a great spot, the terrace has been well thought out and the atmosphere is lively and friendly, with all ages among the clientele. Ideal to pop in for a pint whilst you are waiting for the fish and chips to be cooked in the shop around the corner!

Cliff-top, sea-view bar, with open front and decked outdoor seating. Pleasant in the summer. Modern style, with a vaguely nautical flavour. Ship pictures, ships wheels, etc. Pool. Quiz Thursdays. 2 st.austell casks. Tribute and HSD. On form but a little expensive at around 2.76.
