What a badly run pub!

"Cracking Carvery". Took our friends here for sunday lunch. They are quite choosy about where they eat. We all loved our carvery meals. The roast beef and honeyroast gammon were cooked just right and where lovely and moist. Great selection of vegetables which where no overcooked. The deserts were all very well liked. My girlfriend's rubarb trio and a creme brulee which a sugar crust which was nice and thick. The apple and toffee crumble were huge and we struggled to finish them. Beers on offer were Badger and Sussex. We will definitely be taking our other friends here when they come to stay. Thoroughly recommended.

Poor selection of beer, over-priced food in small portions, tatty decor, shunned by even the most loyal local drinkers.... take my advice, travel 3 miles along the valley to the Langton Arms...

The pub changed hands in late July 2010 and the fat Yorkshire man has now left the building!

The pub is so much better now, clean and warm and now there is a proper chef the food is varied and tasty.

Beer was good and a warm welcome. it was nice to see people in the pub again.

The food was probably the worst I have ever experienced. Charged 40 for a meal we could not eat! Also 'children's enclosed playground' as mentioned in lucky dip section of Good Pub Guide did not exist.

Visited this pub on 4 july 2009. Starters were fine but had to aske for cutlery to eat it. Main course had to be sent back as the Egg was not cooked. Cheese & bix lokked like the cheese pieces had been scraped off the mouse trap & again had to ask for cutlery. Staff need some expert training. Will not return again.

must say i fully enjoy my visits to the knot. having moved down form the smoke a little over 12 months ago the wife and i were glad we found this pub. great food, great service great prices after years of overpriced london fair!!!

its always clean and tidy with a good choise of specials (try the locally made faggots!) and the beer is great (for badger anyway!)

We visited True Lovers' Knot a couple of weeks ago in a party of eight including our kids. The food was fine for the price. My experience was spoiled by being charged 1.70 for a dash of lime in a pint of tap water. The barmaid's attitude to my questioning of this price put me off returning if an alternative is possible. Shame, since it's in nice grounds and the beer is OK.

Don't know about the new Hall & Woodhouse uniform rustic kitting-out of their pubs though, it all comes across as too corporate for me. O Lord where is the humanity?

visited this pub on friday everning, must say we had a fantastic time. the food was great the staff (landlord and landlady included) went out of there way to make it a great everning, reading some off the reviews on here it has amazed me. the place was packed full when we went and the couple on the next table left 10 tip!! (i was generous but not quite as rich as them!)

honestly i would recomend this pub to anyone, having read some peoples views i was compelled to join and put forward me case!

award winning customer service was not evident on my visit, infact the service was very poor, the beer was just ok and the food was motorway services quality,a drunk local chap was the highlight of the evening who seemed to keep going into a trance.

What a mean spirited landlord/lady. If you're going to put kid's playground items in the garden then make it clear what's private property and what isn't. And don't be so rude to kids if they haven't been able to work it out. Won't be going back.

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch. Good Hall & Woodhouse beers and a varied menu with local produce. Restaurant could do with a refurbishment, the staff weren't the most welcoming and the Sunday Roast (8.95) was of a poor quality - large enough but no flavour whatsoever. It would have been better to serve quality not quantity.

Visited this place on a Sat. lunchtime. There is a small campsite attached and a large beer garden with BBQ setup, plenty of swings/roundabouts. The food in the pub was varied and made use of local produce, indicating where sausages were raised and lots of use of Dorset Blue Vinney, classic dorset cheese. All portions looked large and planty of space inside. Thay also do some accomodation ncluding a four poster bedroom. Lookinmg forward to comeing back.

Visited this pub on Sunday 4 November 2007
Have read the other comments, and think they must have changed their Chef. Never had tough lamb shanks before!
Beer was good!

The most amazing veggie burger I have ever had!

I haven't visited the pub - but understand that it offers some gluten free food options. Good news for those of use with wheat / gluten intolerance!

It's a very nicely done out pub in a beautiful setting. The painfully slow service was such a let down, and the food was average, nothing special.
Would be great for sitting out side for a drink or two in the summer but I'd think twice before eating here again.

HI WENT FOR OUR WORKS X-MAS DO HERE JUST BEFORE X-MAS AND WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY. GREAT FOOD A WARM WELCOME (BOTH THE LANDLORD AND LANDLADY WERE EXERLRNT), THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC AND I HASTEN TO ADD FAR CHEEPER THAN THE OTHER PLACES WE LOOKED AT. THE BEER WAS GREAT (BUT THE I LOVE BADGER) AND THE SERVICE WAS GREAT. WE HAVE BOOKED AGAIN TO GO THIS SATURDAY FOR LUNCH SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. MUST SAY I HAVE NOT USED THE KNOT MUCH BEFORE AS WE ATE THERE ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO (THE PREVIOUS TENNENTS) AND IT WAS NOT VERY FRIENDLY BUT THIS PUB IS A SHINNING EXAMPLE OF A QUALITY VILLAGE PUB GIVE IT A GO ITS THE BEST PUB IN THE BLANDFORD AREA BY FAR
goodfoodhunter - 27 Dec 2006 20:11
hi as with others i also read about this pub here (and in the local papers as thay have won numerious awards) my wife and our friends went for a meal last saturday night (2nd december) and it was great. the meal was well presented with quality ingredients served with a smile and the beer was great (yes even for badger!) i do not agree with others we thorght it was very very good value for money and my meal (fillet steak) was as good a steak as ive ever had in dorset give it a go
blandfordboy - 8 Dec 2006 14:14
Good bar snacks and well kept Badger beers. Jovial landlord. Still seemed to have a fair number of locals in the bar area (which we sat in) despite a certain portion of the pub being a set-aside restaurant area.
Worth mentioning there's a nice little caravan site at the back of the pub, as well as B&B accomodation in the pub itself.

For once there is a local rural pub that does great food.
I visited the TLK a few weeks ago, and I was astonished by the range of food they do, and the quality. There is finally a pub that cares about what the customers want, rather than making more profit for themselves.
All there products had all come from local produce, (for example the steaks come from a local national trust estate,) and you got your moneys worth. The portions were massive, and no-one in our party could manage the main course. Let alone a starter and dessert.
If you are looking for Good quality, nice beer, and fantastic service, its well worth a visit. I personally go there very regularly, and enjoy it every time. I also know Im not the only one who feels that it is a great pub to visit; as if you talk to anyone else who is there they will say the same things as I am now.
The landlord and landlady are also very passionate about what they are trying to achieve, and I know that they will manage it, but watch out he is from Yorkshire, and enjoys stating the fact.
The reason why I am posting this is because everyone is entitled to an opinion, so stay in France if you dont like Britain.

i came to this pub for a friends 18th birthday party. It was a very enjoyable evening, and not just for the beers on offer. The food was fantastic, local steaks from kingston lacy which i enjoyed as well as all my friends. The staff were fantastic, very welcoming and knew what they were doing. The landlord and landlady were amazing, they went out of there way to make the birthday girls evening unforgetable, buying her a round of drinks and getting the whole pub to sing happy birthday. I do hope you take on board what i have written because i am sure you will enjoy yourslef as much as we did. It was an unforgetable evening and i highly recommend it.

Went there for lunch on Saturday. The food we had was good quality, tasty and well presented. The Badger First Gold was good although perhaps a little too cold. As myviews has already said the old bar area is pretty much as it was although now opened out into the restaurant at one end. The new area is ok, it just needs a few years to blend in with the older part.

I suspect that if small village pubs like the TLK did not try to build their businesses with new restaurants, rooms etc they would end up closed, quite a lot of the pubs in the area have gone down the extension route - I'd rather have it as it now is than not at all.

great pub with friendley staff the beers are great.the food is cooked to a very good standard and it looks great after its refit the locals seem wellcoming worth a visit
madmoo - 5 Aug 2006 18:29
Well the re-furb is complete and the TLK has been open for about a month. There is now a nice restaurant area and accomodation. Can't comment on the accomodation but we went there recently for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The old bar has not been touched, apart from a bit of a tidy up, a lick of paint and some new curtains. The oldy pub atmosphere has been maintained and that is great. The new restaurant area adjoins the bar and has been tastefully done. We had a light lunch, local sausage, some mash and peas for me and my partner had a tartlet of crab and prawn, simple but nice fayre and served with a smile. The gov'ner is an outgoing Yorkshiremen. We enjoyed our visit why don't you give it a go?
myviews - 1 Feb 2006 19:34
A nice pub and although on the main Blandford/Wimborne road has the feeling of a real country pub, good atmosphere and good food. Currently under refurbishment adding accommodation and a larger restaurant area. Watch this space, will keep you posted.
