I still regard this pub as one the best in this tourist heavy part of London. Nice interior, sport on several televisions, reasonable food. But an annoyance: when I checked my diary after returning to Oz I found their curious pricing policy was again on display. A pint of Pride on my first visit was 4.35, and the second, a few days later, was 4.55, Of course by next year I'll have forgotten about it, and line up to be ripped off again.

One of the better pubs in the Paddington rail & tourist hotel conglomeration. I'm betting 95% of the customers are tourists, given the inane questions they ask, and the variable prices charged: I drank London Pride on 3 visits over a 4 week period & was charged 3 different prices. Didn't notice until I collated my diary after returning to Australia. This is not a big complaint as it was only a few pence and I enjoyed each one, but it is a bit cheeky. Lovely interior, big screens for sport, usual pub menu and a few seats outside if you enjoy vehicle exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke & beggars.

Thought I would try this as an alternative to the Mad Bishop and Bear at Paddington, as I had time to wander down the road before my train.
Deceptively big pub, because as well as the largish downstairs area (which had TVs showing Sky Sports when I went in) there is loads more seating upstairs too.
Decent selection of ales on tap, including a couple from Shepherd Neame. I went for the guest instead (forget the name) which was decent enough, but at £4.14 a pint, even more expensive than the station pub.
Was busy enough mid-afternoon on a Friday and the food smelt decent, but while I enjoyed my pint, think I will stick to the Fuller's place at Paddington instead.

Visited on Monday night. Not a bad pub from the Taylor Walker chain. Five ales and a real cider. Personally had a pint of Red Squirrell Redwood IPA which was very good. They also give a discount to CAMRA members. Will be back.
Not a bad pub. Attentive staff. Enjoyed a couple of pints of Portobello Gold. Food was fine. Something of an oasis in a generally depressing 'pub' wasteland.
This is an ok pub, gets very busy with a mix of hospital staff, commuters, tourists staying in the area and some locals. Reasonably priced food and a good place to meet if you are going to or coming from Paddington station
Depressing, tired looking staff. Service with a sigh. There's about four pubs within 400 metres of it that are about 300 times as deserving of your hard earned cash. Has been a while since I drank there so possibly the management has changed. Convenient proximity to a large hospital with it's staff and first (and probably only) time visits from the tourists staying in the surrounding hotels probably keeps the place going.
An OK place for a pint if you're waiting for a train. Looks good from the outside, looks OK inside, but is full of people who are either waiting for a train or those who are completely lost. The odd tourist here and there staying in cheap hotels in the area. I can't ever imagine going here unless I was waiting for a train.
Attractive exterior, reasonably interesting interior, but otherwise a typical large anonymous London pub.
It's listed as a Cask Marque pub but on my quick visit the beer was far too cold and the selection really boring. Since my main purpose in going to a pub is to drink beer, this is not one I'll revisit in a hurry.
A rare occurrence this walked in and walked straight through - stank of sour stale beer and filled with depressed looking people filling in time - joyless, depressing and smelly - AVOID!
handy as it's nearby to Paddington station, drinks are well priced. However, the pub lacks atmosphere and I must report that pick pockets operate within the pub.
Top pub full of men and ladies having Fun. great effort in support HELP FOR HEROES. Keep up the good work.
Totally unremarkable place, one huge gutted room, raised area close to the entrance, ok for sport on TV and I imagine a reasonable choice for a quick pint before a train but that's about it. A few original features have somehow escaped the attention of the pub designers.
As far as real ale is concerned, they had four of the usual suspects on Pride; Bombardier; GKIPA; and Youngs Bitter (I think). This is a very ordinary and uninspiring Spirit Group pub. Too many high stools/tables for my liking, though there were a few normal tables and chairs, plus a good number of picnic type benches outside on the pavement. Its right on the busy main road of Praed St, just down the road from Paddington Station, so gets a lot of passing trade. Its really nothing special, and I cant see any reason to return.
Quite a nice largish pub , but beer choice slightly disapointing bombadier , youngs , green king ipa .
Primarily frequented by the staff and students from the hospital and university across the road. Regarded as a bit of a last resort amongst most of the people I know, it's a large pub with a decent sized upstairs room. The second floor is rarely utilised to it's potential though, and the beer is often hit and miss.
Food has gotten better during recent months and the pub is generally big enough to avoid the more unsavoury characters that are prone to appearing in the weekend evenings. A decent place to watch a football match if you can get a seat upstairs. Being on a main road, the outside seating isn't exactly a positive aspect of the pub.
I've visited this place numerous trips to London over the years and always considered it reliable, if nothing else. Last time I stopped in the ales tasted sour and metallic, the place was noisy and the staff pretty indifferent. I have had some good pints here before, so maybe it was an off day. If you're in Paddington area, you can do worse.
Visited this pub at 11.00pm as others had closed their doors (maybe they saw us coming!!). Very busy and the pub had a good atmosphere. If you wish to romance your sweetheart and desire a quiet place then, chaps, this one is not for you. Some wonderful tiling at the side of this bar. Service was okay.
Well, poor show all round.
Beer is often poor tasting. I have had to wait over an hour for food and the staff dont speak great english.
Sorry guys - avoid at all costs.
Decent ale selection, and the upstairs is ideal for football. But the bar can become very crowded at peak times - prepare to wait ten minutes to get served. The menu has recently been changed, exchanging value for the same homogenized choice available at the Dickens, etc. So-so on eats, then, but time your arrival and you'll be alright here.
I'm an early doors drinker. It's a good time to judge pubs and the staff particularly as it is often a time for complacency. I used to drink here 40 years ago and it was superb. I wouldn't call it that now but on modern standards it's good and the 6X was superb.
Have to agree that the service is very swift and friendly,we stopped in on the way from paddington at friday teatime, and though very busy,we were able to drink without feeling crushed, nice to see Wadworths 6x available
I found this a nice pub with very good service. The beer was very good and there was a good atmosphere inside. I was in on Saturday, when the cricket was being shown before the football came on. There were good views of the screens and while being easy to watch, the sport wasn't intrusive, and if you'd wanted to avoid it, this could be done easily. One of the best pubs in the area, in my experience. There's also a big screen upstairs if you want to concentrate on sport. A few tourists were present, but it wasn't overrun by them by any means.
Very popular Paddington pub - crawling with people every Friday evening, but somehow it never takes very long to get served. Efficient, friendly staff. Decent selection of ales, and any food I've tried has been pretty decent.
Food not bad, good upstairs to watch sport, a great strategic place for downing a few lagers before nipping accross the road to st marys for a tripple by pass and a hysterectomy
Met a friend here last night, for only my second ever visit.
Standard T&J Bernard decor & beer range. Quality was good though (Youngs Ordinary), and it's clearly very popular.
Very convenient for Paddington Station & St Mary's hospital and all in all not bad.
Proper London pub but frequented by tourists which keeps it interesting. Met my better half in here so it must be good.
Visited Foutains Abbey pub when staying in hotel down the street. Wanted something nice to eat and good beer without having to go into central london, we got both. Went sight-seeing in london the next day and ended up back in this pub in the evening to watch football and get another great feed.
Atmosphere was similar to pubs at home in Ireland, and the food is delicious. Sent a review to the hotel we were staying in and recommended this pub as the place to eat in.
One of the highlights of the trip, keep it up.

Hi! My name is Sandra and I'm from Poland. I've been in this pub last sunday and monday with two friends. The atmosphere was great. I want to thank for kindness and niceness of people who work there. (I hope my english grammar is not that bad :))
I worked and lived in this pub 5yrs ago, it has a great atmosphere and great people. Be kind to the staff, they are overworked and underpaid - alot are Aussies but that makes it friendly and fun. I miss the people but not the long shifts - it is great to be back in Oz!!
Recently closed for paintjob and fixing of wall of mirrors, cleaned lead off the windows and the crud too making it a much lighter pub inside, ceilings and walls are brighter too.
Upped my marks from 6 to 8/10
I turned 16 in this pub. I'ts been ten years but I still have the best memories of the staff & trip. Thanks for making the big 16 a special event. Blonde Bomer
Have to say, I am biased. This Pub is right opposite "Work", so a great place to fall out of work for a beer, But even so the food is crap. Staff rotate, miserable at the moment coz they are Aussies and missing their summer. Pool tables are good but need levelling as they have been there for less than 12 months. They have Sky Sports & will change channels if enough people ask for it. Non-smoking area for those who want it.
I previously worked at this pub when I was in London. It is a wonderful place, with wonderful staff who are very friendly. It was a great atmosphere to be around, except when you had rude customers with the opinion that they were above you. But none the less, everyone worked hard even with the difficulties they had to deal with on occasion. These people work hard, please remember this! I miss this place sorely!

I am a group of one medical informatics professional. This is a smokey hole of some benefit but not staffed by professional water trades persons, more like ill trained passing through cheap labour with no interest (not been there for a couple of months now) Try the Victoria for a realish pub nearby
We are a group of medical professionals on a course at st marys over the road from this pub. We love this pub the staff are so nice and not a bit false. The upstairs pool room is fantastic with a grat craic at night and not at all scary or over powering as some busy city pubs are. Keep up the good work. TSPS Imperial College

friendly atmosphere and the employees are wonderful to look at and a blast to hang out with. I almost felt as if I were back at home.

4 of us visited the pub at lunch time, and ordered two jacket potatoes with cheese & coleslaw, and a Welsh rarebit. The potatoes were over microwaved. At first we thought the cheese had been omitted, but did eventually find a morsel stuck to the bottom of the plates. The space isn't big enough for comments on the welsh rarebit, suffice to say the welsh would want their nationality removed from it. The fourth person in our party had the best result, as she didn't order food, and really enjoyed her wine. We were given our money back, after a rather long wait for the manager, but will not be returning.

I am an American who was visiting London. We found this pub to be wonderfully friendly and the food was wonderful! I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant!

For a swift beer on a evening before getting a train I can't beat this pub if you are in Paddington and can be bothered to go outside.
At least 3 decent beers on sale most times I've been there

Took ages to be served, but the staff were quite friendly. When I got to a table there were 2 empty glasses on it. Quite surprised by the cleanliness of the loos, though.

Noisy place. Where is the staff? No table cleaned by 6pm, to try a poor dinner(September 19th).

Wetherspoons without the cheap beer.
Food is terrible unless you like tinned vegetables and microwaved pies
