I was hoping to have a beer in this pub as it sounded like quite an interesting place. However on a closer inspection it is now closed with the front door all boarded up. I believe that with the right owner this place has a lot of potential for a pub and resturant with all the development going on at Milbay surely someone will take it on as it is a pleasant looking place with some outside seating areas.

Used to be a wonderful place some years ago. More recently i called in for one drink awaiting a ferry and met some colleagues who'd been in there a lot longer. They weren't impressed with the landlord so one or them repaid him by buying some pickled eggs from behind the bar and feeding them straight to the friendly bulldog. It loved them. Apparently bulldogs are renown for their smelly flatulence under normal circumstances. I'd hate to have been in there a couple of hours later when the pickled eggs were working their magic!

Visited this pub 2 years ago and found the food good but was sadly disappointed when we were there on Friday night. Ordered 4 scampi, chips & salad. Only 2 arrived the other 2 were given to another table. The 2 we received were cold and there was hardly any salad. Our 2 friends waited ages for their scampi. We were going to a concert so had no alternative but to eat what we had as there was no time to go anywhere else. When we complained the lady (not sure if she was the landlady) was quite rude - she gave us 5.00 refund to share. When I said we won't be back her comment was 'good'. Not the way a pub landlord should act. They seemed to be short staffed and unable to cope with a rush of people. Had we not paid in advance we would have walked out immediately. We definitely will not be back.

Have not been in this pub for several years, and although i was not a regular whenever i used it i found the selection of beers plentiful and the welcome warm. This was not the case when i visited this week. Waiting for the ferry to france, myself and a friend wallked in, only to be confronted by a (seemingly) friendly bulldog. Dont have a problem with dogs at all, its just when i go onto a pub i expect to see people! We sat at the bar, waited, and waited, and waited- still no sign of anyone who worked there! we must have waited about 7/8 minutes before we walked out. We could hear noise coming from the kitchen, sounded like sonmeone was washing dishes, but no-one popped their head around. When we left, we saw the barman (an older man so i assume he is the landlord) outside having a fag break. Fine, i dont mind people smoking, its just that you should always keep an eye to the bar if your going to nip out!! We also were quite put off when the dog decided to pee all over the floor- i know that it's not the dog's fault but if it is apub dog the owners should be more responsible and consider letting it outside! Would nnot reccommend this pub at all. Toilets were dirty and did not smell good. It really saddens me to see pubs decline, but this one sadly has.

I like the layout of the pub, and went as far as adopting it as a local as it was around the corner from a previous workplace. Decent enough food and beers, and, though a little pricey, this is worth a quick visit.

The three-level motif is certainly interesting, though it is no surprise that the middle floor is always the most popular! As such, probably more sensible to start, rather than end, your crawl here! Good pump selection, and well-crafted food. Perfect if you want some proper ale (as opposed to watered-down Carlsberg) inside you before a gig of the Pavilions

A lovely pub with interesting rooms on different levels. Lovely to look at but would need to take care when full I would imagine. Good selection of well kept ales. A lovely outside seating area too.

Ferry was delayed last Wednesday, so we popped in. Seemed a perfectly OK pub. Rather quiet until towards closing time. Other customers seemed fine; no obvious chavs or sleaze-ball City-dealer-types. The beer was fine. The cider was OK. Perhaps I'm being a bit precious, but I felt I detected a slight put-down in the barman's voice when he told one of our group that they had finished serving meals. Quite correct - it was stated outside, and I had noticed it on the way in; no meals after 9 p.m. This was after 9 p.m. Other contributors have noted the unusual floor lay-out. I imagine that, if they did allow patrons to get a little over-indulged, this could leave to some hilarity - but possible injury, too.

Interesting pub with split level floors, which can be a bit disconcerting. Usually quiet, but has a very good range of well kept ales and continental lagers. An excellent place to hide away and have a pint while reading the paper of a weekend. In a word - unique.
