A fairly typical High Street shop conversion with four ales on. tried the Highbridge IPA which was pretty bland and insipid to the extent it put me off trying anything else.
Nice range of ale and brilliant top shelf. If you want to sample a wee dram, go here!
went in early afternoon had 3 cask beers on . only 2 other customers in the pub.3 cask beers on tried a peters ale nice pint. best of the 3 pubs i went in fort william

Restaurant upstairs.... portions are immense - my starter would have done me for a main. Great service.
Bar downstairs is smallish, dark but with plenty of walking related chatter.
The beer was excellent.... I stuck with the An Talloach (excuse spelling), which was perfect.
Highly recommended.

The only good thing about this pub was the range of real ales on tap. The bar was overcrowded and cramped, the service was slow and the staff(when we were eventually served) were rude. I love my ales but I would look elsewhere to drink them.
A truly great pub, 6 ever-changing Scottish real ales, all served to perfection, good food, very helpful staff, a great atmosphere and generally just a brilliant all-round pub. It can get busy, but as customers are called to the restaurant this soon eases. I just could not fault this place in any way, and if the staff are reading this, thanks for all of your great service.

This pub was the venue for my celebratory drink after completing the West Highland Way. Maybe it was the miles I had tramped to build up a thirst or the relief that my feet were finally getting a chance to stop carrying my weight, but the An Teallach beer that I had was nectar.
The next few I had were pretty good as well.
The pub is very small and compact which helps with the atmosphere, but don't always expect to get a seat. I'm sure they would sell more food if there were more tables, but there is always the restaurant upstairs (which I didn't try).

A truly great pub. We went here on a dreary mid-week afternoon and spent a couple of happy hours sampling their wares. The Cairngorm Wildcat was the best that I'd had up until then on our journeys around Scotland. Good, knowledgeable staff always able to point you in the right direction if you aren't sure what to have from the array of handpumps. The food looked good, but we'd already had lunch and so didn't get the chance to try it. Would recommend this pub if you're in Fort William.

Great pub, freindly staff, grat selection of real beer on offer.
Great little pub. Beer was good, about 5 real ales were on offer. I tried the 'Black & Tan', very good indeed. 7/10 from me.
The place to drink and eat in Fort William. The food is excellent as is the beer. Try the black pudding - brilliant.

Bit of a strange one , this. Great friendly atmosphere and good selection of ales at a reasonable price. However, all the real ales I tried were far too cold, like super-chilled lager. More of problem though was the fact that I have my suspicions as to which beer I was actually being served. I know this sounds odd but the first beer I had was trade winds, which i've had many times before. except...this didnt taste anything like trade winds (and didnt look much like it either). I assumed it must be my dodgy memory/tastebuds and enjoyed the pint anyway. the next beer i tried was a wheat beer (i forget the name) which came out lloking like john smiths! and tasting like it too. this was definitively NOT a wheat beer. if i was a more suspicious man i'd say they had every hand pump connected to the same barrel. shame, as id been really looking forward to this place and it had everything alse right. we ended up in the place across the street which was by no means as nice as the grog and gruel, but the beer at least appeared to be what it said it was. reluctantly, i have to give this place a poor mark based on the beer i was served 2 nights running.

Agree with the previous comments, a good selection of local ales, and friendly efficient service. The best pub in Fort William, although to be fair that isn't saying a lot...
This is still a good pub with quality real ales available (3 on handpump at time of visiting) and is probably the best bar in Fort William for drinking. Menu had a selection of styles with some Mexican, boar or venison burgers, pizzas and other delights both in the bar and small restaurant upstairs. Food was available until 9.00pm.

excellent pub excellent food 10/10

Nice atmosphere (lovely visiting dog when we were there...) and good choice of ale. Food excellent quality but maybe a bit pricey.

I've been a bit tardy in adding my comments about this place. I called in after completing the West Highland Way on 29 May this year and found the beer and the atmosphere most welcoming. Like others I can't comment on the food, as I didn't have any. Whether this convivial atmosphere was due in part to the large number of walkers in the pub, many of whom I'd already met en route, I don't know, but as others have mentioned the bar staff were helpful and efficient, particularly as the place was packed to the rafters. On my visit there were 6 well kept ales on offer - Fraoch, Black Gold, Crofter's Pale Ale, Red Cuillin, Brewhouse Special and An Teallach, which appears to be a staple judging by previous comments. In conclusion this is a fine pub supplying an interesting range of beers, which is well worth a visit.

Cracking pub flying the flag for real ale in Fort William, 8 beers on when I visited all from differing small Scottish Brewers. The pub is basic down stairs, all bare boards, but friendly and served what I thought was good value meals from a limited bar snack menu, proper meals are served in the restaurant upstairs. Try also the Nevis Sport bar near the station (next door to the outdoor shop of that name) reached through double glass doors it opens up into a lovely cosy lounge, with open fire, 4 handpulled ales and good value wholesome meals, its also in the good beer guide.

Bit tardy with this one...An Teallach range of beer, seemed well kept. Expensive but quite good food. Gets very crowded, but there is not another pub in Fort William that most people would want to set a walking socked foot in. Narrow downstairs near the bar, upstairs reserved for gastronomes. I hardly need to say recommended. Try walking past some of the others and your feet will take you here, perhaps without your face getting punched. A sanctuary.

At least seven Real ales on and they were happy for my partner to have samplers. I had six of the seven ales, the seventh (Hector) looked to dark and heavy for my tastes, all of which tasted, were well kept. Nice ambience to the place if not a little dark. Had some food in the bar area which was imaginative fare, bit pricey for the area, but good all the same.

smallish high street pub, with bare board floors and barrel tables.restaurant upstairs. we called on a monday night, which was quiet. 4 of the 10 cask ale pumps were on. the barman was quite helpful in choosing a beer, and happily allowed us to sample some. two I remember were caledonian 80/- and "Kelpie Seaweed Ale" from the lanarkshire Heather Ale Ltd. we tried the seaweed ale for novelty value which turned out to be quite nice, like a flavoursome stout. there was also a decent whisky selection. *** verdict: bar was a bit basic, beer and price was good, not sure about the food as we didn't try it. okay for a change from the drovers. a 6 from me.

I wasn't overly impressed by this pub, but would still say it is the best in Fort William. During our visit, they had 4 real ales on - Isle of Skye Black Cuillin, Williams Joker, Williams Gold and An Teallach Ale. The latter seemed to be going down quite well.
Superb pub, 7 interesting ales on tap, food looked good, bar staff friendly. Highly recommended.
Great pub. 5 obscure ales on tap and very friendly and helpful staff. Perhaps a little dark inside but overall very good. 9/10
A must for any real ale drinker, not only excellent beer (some beers also changed daily) but a good choice of food. The best pub in Fort william.
Compared to the competition (which is pretty dire in Fort William - and the West Coast in general) it's the best of the bunch.
A good range of alternating real ales - generally good conditioned too.
The only problem with the pub is that it's just a bit dark and depressing. Not much of an atmosphere either (at least the few times I've visited).
A must find for any real ale drinker, not only good beer but a good choice of beer. The best pub in Fort william in my opinion, young or old this place is worth a visit.
1st visit 06/04/07 Good selection of at least 3 Atlas beers plus another 4/5 other Scottish beer. Crowded but good service- Food looked good but long queues for tables.
Excellent selection of Scottish ales. Particularly enjoyed the Nimbus. A must if you are in Fort William
Great beer, great service, good food. At least five real ales on hand pump, all well kept, mostly Scottish, none conventional. Lively crowd downstairs, more quiet in the upstairs restaurant.
Good beer here. I would have gone straight for the Orkney Dark Island had I seen it. Not sure why the newer pump clips for this beer are quite so bland. The old ones used to stand out a mile.
Good food and drink, including a lively restaurant upstairs. Quite an atmospheric interior - dark and wooden. The beer range is one of the best in the area, including some unusual specialities from Scotland's growing portfolio of small brewers. A "must-visit" when in Fort William.
Great pub, food was very good. The restaurant upstairs gets very busy so get in early. They had to turn away loads of people. Being very nice people they sent them to the other pub across the road.

Good selection of beers and whiskies and decent grub to boot.
Havent tried the food here but got no complaints about the beer and the service. There was a nice little scots folk band playing when I was here. ( Why do scots folk bands play so much irish folk music? Theres plenty good scots music!)
This pub serves many different ales to a very high standard!!! The food is just excellent
