Yes, nice old village pub, with some nice beers. But we took a birthday party of 12 for Sunday lunch and the food was barely average, but expensive. Coupled to that, when issues were raised, they did nothing to deal or apologise. Shall not be returning in a hurry.

Lovely old pub but it had been painted a horible grey colour everywhere don't know why? Very good selection of beer and the staff and locals are very friendly. Food very expensive and it appears they are trying to turn this into a gastro pub. All in all not a bad experience but not top of our list

This is a real pub. Amazing.
The Harveys and the Dark Star were well kept, the food was good and the service friendly.
Part of it is given over to dining but you can also dine in the bar where there are real people who just come in for a drink and a chat, just like pubs should be.
How refreshing to be among people chatting about football (a subject I have no interest in) rather than children running around and being a nuisance.
They do let children and dogs in and it can get quite busy.

After taking a rest over Christmas and the New Year, the weekly quiz is moving to Wednesday. The first quiz of 2012 will be on Wednesday 18 January.

Thursday night is quiz night! 2 per person, with 50% going to St Catherine's Hospice. First prize is a gallon of beer (donated by the pub), second prize is 10, and there is a Rollover Jackpot awarded every four weeks to the team that accumulates most points in that period.
If you think you know what connects Edinburgh, Dover and Edinburgh, if you can remember which team was undefeated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, if you know when you're in the Rhubarb Triangle, then you should join us on Thursday! And if you visit the quiz as a result of reading this, let me know (I'm the quizmaster) and I'll buy you a pint!

The Black Horse now has a 3rd real ale on (Harveys Sussex, Fullers London Pride & Dark Stars Hophead) along with a proper flat Westons scrumpy cider. Beautiful pub, had a great lunch and one too many of the Hophead's whilst sat enjoying the sun before staggering off on a long country walk home.

An honest country pub - no horse brasses or farm implements hanging from the ceiling. Beer good but not a huge choice. Food superb. Yes there is a bit of a wait but thats because everything is cooked to order. Yes it is a pricier than most others but then you do get what you pay for. If I do have one gripe its that the refurbishment didn't reach the toilets. I appreciate that its an old building but they could be so much nicer.
|
not so good since refurb, 8 of us waited nearly 45 mins for burgers/sandwiches and there were 3 other tables eating. however food was better than previous incarnation....
|
BTW: the photo on this website page must be pre-redecoration as it aint carpeted now and that scene is unrecognisable.

More restaurant than pub, simple but tasty gastro-angled menu, food was slow to arrive, but not to the point of disaster, lots of outdoor seating and garden nestles a stream so its pretty enough and the building retains some very old pub wall, nook and cranny style rooms. Staff where excellent, ale choice just 2: London Pride and Harveys. Harveys was fine, but overall i left the place feeling underwhelmed as the character and pubbiness seemed to have been sucked out the place and replaced by a rather aspirational chunky table restaurant.

Walked over the fields from Horsham on late may bank holiday to visit and have lunch. Really busy, but staff were honest and said we could eat if we didn't mind waiting. We were in no hurry so stuck around, sitting in the rear garden. Shame there wasn't a huge choice of beers, but the Harveys was good. Both my pints were pulled short though - maybe inexperienced staff?
Food came earlier than advised and was very good although a little pricey. From the selection of cars in the carpark I don't think many of the clientele minded about the prices though. Definitely a country gastropub and doing well with it. Nice spot to walk to and a good option for food if you're feeling flush.

Pub was taken over in summer and completely re decorated to a high standard. Menu is small and changes often. Food and beer is good. Deserves to do well

Dave left a few years ago.

Very nice small country pub, out of the way with a large pleasant garden and good sized car park. I always visit this Pub once or twice on my very infrequent visits to the UK. Traditional old Sussex pub with good food if you want it, the beers are well kept. Jazz in the garden on sunny Sundays. A few years ago this pub was very well frequented, and packed on Sunday lunch, but not so now, on my last visit (a sunny weekday lunch time), I only counted a dozen or so customers in the two hours I was there. But its the same as a lot of the pubs in the UK now, quite a few are struggling for business or closing.

A fine traditional english village pub located very nicely in a pretty garden area.
Interesting pictures inside of Jonathan Ross, Gary Lineker and Bruce Forsyth. Not that they have visited here I expect.
Good ales and food.

Excellent little pub, well worth a visit, good beer, excellent food, nice staff and the most gorgeous little garden with a babbling brook. Did I mention the lovely Horsham flagstone floor and the best fireplace ever!
|
Went specifically for Sunday lunch after visiting infrequently for drinks over recent months. Priced at 9.95 the roast was a bargain, with a choice of meats, finally choosing the beef which was served as 3 big slices cooked to perfection (pink in the middle). The beer selection could do with expanding but otherwise ..... WELL DONE!

an excellent pub great food, good beer, friendly staff and an amazing garden.it must have the best fireplace in the land.

Visited one Sunday afternoon with some friends. Not overly busy and bar staff were friendly enough. Beer was a trifle expensive but my big gripe was the state of the toilets - smelly and really dirty. I certainly wouldn't eat anything from the kitchen based on the level of housekeeping.
|
Could be a really nice pub but spoilt by badly kept beer. I don't know how they ever qualified for a Cask Marque!
|
A really good, small, very old village pub, in a very pleasant setting. I've been using it since 1974, and the atmosphere is still as good.
|
Excellent food, but very expensive drinks!
|
Potentially a lovely pub - great setting, reasonable food - but spoilt by rude and abusive landlord.

not so sure about this place, nice situation but I feel it's slightly overpriced for what you get.
