Greatly improved since bought by Fullers. Was a 'drinking barn', and still big, but interior now cleverly sub-divided into differentiated areas - cosy settees, open fire in winter, great views from 'eating' area, newspapers, sensible range of ales with good balance between regular well-kept Fuller's brands and a guest ale or two. Friendly and obliging staff who still manage - just - when the huge garden can be almost overwhelmed in summer with perhaps a shade too-liberal attitude to children

This is of course a great location but, like so many pubs that have that luck, they stop bothering. Beer is ok but the food is massively overpriced and very average with tiny portions. We had very disappointing meals and had to eat again when we got home. Service was also very very slow, nearly 40mins and 2 chases before our food came. Shame really.
Just been to Anglers for Sunday lunch. Very busy and a lot of families with children, no place in small car park. Ended up outside but service quick and sirloin, Yorkshire pudding, and seasonal vegetables excellent. I noticed the menu had a veggie special with Yorkshire pudding well done. The full Fullers beers on offer including Seafarers and winter ale. Decent pint of Pride and attentive service throughout.
It's alright is the Anglers. Large pub so there's always somewhere to sit. Always have a fine selection of ales and all are consistently in good shape. Seem to have at least four of five staff behind the bar so waiting times never an issue. I don't know, I can't think of many bad things regarding the Anglers but I just does'nt really do it for me. Nethertheless I shall still visit from time to time to enjoy a good drink of the Seafarers.
Avoid this pub when the weather is good, which ironically should be the best time to go to this pub. A trip here on a sunny Aug Sunday led to us spending 15mins finding a table, 30 mins queuing to order food and then 1hr 30mins waiting for food that never came. After asking where it was we were told it would be 30 or more further minutes. So with young children we had to go into Teddington and buy sandwiches from M&S. Fullers should be ashamed of the organisational shambles at this pub.
Seems to be run by 'youffs' who have had more time in training on how to tie a massive tie knot then how to serve behind a bar. Why Fullers feel the need for the staff to wear shirt and tie is beyond me, its a pub. Was over fun with children, should have rearlised that after seeing the playground in the garden. Average all round really, 5/10
Despite the riverside location, this place comes into its own during winter. It's less busy and feels more intimate, particularly with the fires. But whatever the season, you can often evesdrop on the coked-up K-list sherlebriddies from the studio next door.
Took some friends from Australia here on Saturday. Weather was scorching. Expected it to be overrun. Sitting outside was fine, big table, comfy chairs. Ordered food and drink expecting nothing special. The Fullers Honey Dew was lovely, well kept and just the right temperature. The club sandwich was superb quality, 3 big slices of French bread, chicken and bacon. Service was fast, but we deliberately ordered early and they forgot one item from the order. still going to give this 7/10. Unexpectedly good!
Great location, shame about the quality of the beer. Obviously in desperate need of a decent cellar man.
what a very nice nice comment from the landlord....please see below
My husband and I went to this pub a few weeks ago whilst riding our bikes along the river. We stopped and had dinner on the raised decking area and found it delightful. Rerading some of the comments on the slowness of the staff seems a bit strange as they were all very polite and quick with us. The manager on hand who introduced himself as Matt came over and engaged in a long conversation with my husband about the history of Fullers ale so well done Fullers for training your staff on the important things! He seemed to like it and when the food arrived which was about 30 minutes but they were busy, it was delicious. Crab salad and a fish n chips. couldn't have gone down better!
The management of this place is evidently lacking. We went there on a hot day, midweek in the summer holidays, specifically because it's ideal for families. It wasn't particularly busy because it was a late lunch (post 2.30pm). When our food was brought to the table we asked for cutlery and condiments, to which the waitress replied that she was too busy ("I'm the only one on the floor" were her words) and that we would have to find them ourselves. I have never seen bar staff work as slowly as they do at this place. I ordered four soft drinks (I had to repeat my order three times as the barmaid didn't seem to be able to remember between each drink) and it took a full five minutes to pour them out and take my money. No wonder there are queues in this place; one soon built up behind me. Fullers need to get competent managers in to recruit, train and manage the staff; very little of that seems to be happening right now. What a disappointment.
Gave it another go last night after nearly a year. Still utterly hopeless barstaff I see - so slow!!!! Get rid of the young kids behind the bar and get some decent staff in who know what work is. Ah well, back to the Tide End then...
This is not a pub for the locals. It seems to attract the day-tourists of the river and lock. More children running around than adults on the weekend. Went there with my partner and we weren't impressed at all. Terrible selection of wine, and flat lager. The bar staff seemed more interested in their mobile phones than they did serving people. The owners have no interest in serving the locals...go to the Tide End for a much fuller experience.
I must say I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the comments but upon visiting this pub for the first time in about 10 years, I was really impressed with it! It looks like it has just been goven a quality looking refurb and all the staff were really friendly. Yes it was busy and you needed to wait for service but you were acknowledged and treated politley. We had some sandwiches for lunch and the portions were preety good, the Pride tasted fresh and we left content! I am needing to book a venue for when my mother in law comes to town and I can't see a reason to look anywhere else in Teddington for the time being.
This pub becomes unusable every sunny summer weekend due to children running riot and hideous queues for awful food and unmotivated bar staff. It's a great pity because its a lovely venue and if the owners sorted out the summer problems a lot more local people would use it all year round.
Went there yesterday, Sunday 12 September 2010, with idea of having a nice meal with wife. Now we have been here quite a few times and have loved it, especially when the weather is nice. The queues at the bar can be bit off putting sometimes, but you can always nip next door when its like that. They did have a beer and pimm's tent early in the summer to alleviate this problem, but strangely have stopped this. Staff are a bit young but pleasant enough.
Oh dear! My wife ordered meal at the bar. I quite fancied a roast, but on seeing the queue at the hog roast counter decided against it, instead ordering a guinness and steak pie. Unfortunately, unbeknown to us, some bright spark had decided that steak pie is standard barbecue food and thus, instead of being brought to your table, you had to fetch it yourself from the hog counter. By this stage the queue to that counter was snaking half way round the garden resembling a world record attempt for the gonga, with two GCSE types serving at a rate of one person every 3 minutes. Forty minutes later, my wife had already eaten, I was still in the queue and had lost the will to live, never mind my appetite.
I know they were busy, but they have been busier before. If you have not got the staff to cope then don't take the orders. In other places if one counter is too busy then the manager spots it, and diverts extra staff to that area. "Its simples" as that meerkat would say and I bet you for one thing that I am not the only person in that queue who will think again about coming back to the Anglers.
I haven't been in here for a while despite it being my local pub. I gave up a while back as the service was so awful. So last night (for some reason) I decided to give it another go.... I see it's the same old Anglers - almost impossible to get served and the kids behind the bar couldn't be any more ponderous if they tried. I like everything else about the place, but they really have to put a rocket under the staff and introduce them to the idea of work. Ah well, I'll give it another go in six months maybe. Shame.
As an irregular visitor to this place I have to say that the average age of the bar staff looks below that required to legally buy a pint. I don't want to put 'da youth' down but there's no effort made to greet and welcome. Service is slow and bizarrely on this visit no London Pride was available for the best part of the evening. Not much cop for a Fullers pub! I ordered some grub which was the standard pub grub offerings and not bad. But again the service was poor. In the end I had to slope off and get my own cutlery. After finishing, the dishes sat on my table for around an hour before I had to get up and dump them on the bar myself. Similarly there was no effort to collect the empty glasses off the table.
All in all this place will probably always do well due to its delightful riverside location and huge beer garden. But the service really needs a Richard and Judy style makeover.
large , child friendly, slightly anonymous pub that under exploits river location. Reasonable food. Totally acceptable, but nothing special.
My husband and i recently took a long walk from Kingston to Teddington and decided to call in at The Anglers. The pub wasn't that busy and we managed to find a table inside. It took a while to get served at the bar because the young barmaids were all talking and not aware of just how many customers were waiting to be served. When the sun came out we went and sat outside. The BBQ was open and we decided to eat from there. There was limited menu and most things we wanted they'd ran out of including bacon!!! i decided to go for the chicken ceaser salad which was lovely apart from the fact the salad was wilting. My husband went for the cheese and bacon buger- without the bacon- it was tough and burnt. The burger bun tasted old and the chips were not cooked in the middle. Overall i was rather dissatisfied with the visit. You could see the grill chef touching all the raw meats then the cooked and the waiting staff were so slow. Not going back there for a while.
I think there *is* something amiss - the original high standards after the launch seem to have been relaxed - I've been kept waiting at times at the bar when they weren't busy and haven't seen the level of helpfulness and manners from the young staff that were there even 6 months ago. What worries me is that - having been in there maybe 20 times since the refurb - I've no idea who the landlord or landlady is. In fact I can't ever remember seeing someone behind the bar who could possible be old enough. That's never a good sign.
After enjoying an evening at this pub last Friday. I am shocked to read the last couple of reviews. The service was excellent, The young lady who looked after us was well mannered and very attentive. Our entire family decided to order from the fish menu and I have to say, The Halibut was the best I have tasted since leaving the States. perfectly cooked and we waited no longer than 15 minutes to recieve our meal. I can understand that this pub could be very busy due to its location but I think people should understand this. On our visit the experience was wonderful.
I felt compelled to come and leave a comment here. I'm not in the habit of complaining about food but this was really something else. We waited for 30mins after we've ordered and eventually had to send someone to the kitchen to check. I had sardines which had NONE of their scales removed so I wasn't able to eat my meal. My partner had a pie which was substandard and should not have been served. Having waited so long for this dreadful meal meant we were late for what made us travel to Teddington in the first place. Won't be back.

If Ryanair ran a pub this would be it.......
frger - 22 Apr 2010 10:32 |
Wife and I called in here briefly early lunch time today. Pub was fairly empty at 12:15 so got served straight away. We sat outside on the terrace as it was a brilliant sunny day and I enjoyed a pint of Fullers Hock. Dining area looked nicely laid out in a conservatory type extension but menu wasn't too appealing to us, with mashed potato with a lot of the choices. Looked like it was easily heated pub food. The area outside is very extensive if intensively developed for seating. Plenty of student types coming in and giving a bit of atmosphere to the place. Riverside venue makes it an attractive venue but we didn't give it a good test. Have to try drinking and eating there on a busy evening.
We ventured into this pub as it was a nice day for a change and we decided to get some food as well(salads). There was a long wait to get served, but once we had given our order and received our drinks, we thought we would be eating within 15-20 minutes. How wrong we were. We waited for 45 minutes before I approached the bar to enquire about our order only to have to wait for another 15 minutes to be able to speak to one of the bar staff. As it seemed our meal would never arrive, we asked for our money back. The manager NEVER APOLOGISED for the fact that we had waited for far too long and just dumped the refund into my hand and then he walked away. The bar is severely understaffed and I felt very sorry for the young staff who were having a difficult time dealing with the number of people waiting to be served. If the management are happy with expanding this pub to allow for a large number of patrons, then they should have the good sense to work out how many staff they need to employ to run The Anglers efficiently.
Can't believe these last few comments - only been here 2 or 3 times in the last week, but it seems a lovely place. Good drop of Fullers, friendly barstaff and a nice atmosphere. And no, i do not have any connection with the pub whatsoever!
dont bother!!!
Much better since Fullers took it over. Have lived close to this pub for years and never used it as it was so bad. Lets see if the new standards can be maintained
OK, they do have that lovely playground in the garden. And the garden might be nice in the summer.
However,
the food is awful and the service is just as bad. We went there for Sunday lunch. We had to clear the table ourselves, we had to order food at the bar (no waiters were interested in serving us - some were even rude). They are so understaffed!
The food was the worst - THE WORST- I have eaten for a very long time! The beef was so tough dry, it was inedible. It must have been sliced and left on the heater for hours before it got onto my plate. Vegetarian sausages were tasteless. The vegetables were few and severely overcooked. The bread-and-butter pudding tasted of stale bread and apple crumble tasted of dry flour. Coffee took ages, it came in a fingerprinted cup. And it was cold.
Most certainly we are not coming back!
Would agree with the last post. A great improvement! Table service for both food and drinks and a far more organised and professional approach. Well done and keep it up!
Amazing transformation. Apart from the Lion this is my nearest pub and for 20 years I've avoided it. Typical big pubco managed craphouse. But now ....
The pub was already on the right track before the refurbishment with a huge improvement in the quality of the beer under Fullers and young enthusiastic staff at every turn (in the past they were few and far between and - consequently - overstretched and useless). Now the refurb is the icing on the cake. It looks great in a modern large food oriented pub sort of a way - don't expect Victoriana but do expect real fires, lots of differently targeted areas (clever given it's generally open plan layout), attractive airy colour scheme and a smartened up garden. Given its location and architecture, If you didn't know the 20/21st century history of the pub you might be disappointed to find it's not a lovely old Dickensian interior. But in view of what its been through over the last 30 years or so - this is as good as we could hope for. No kids in at the moment - it's December - but I'd imagine it will be teaming with them in the Summer. So if you don't like them in a pub ... go to the Tide End.
This has already become my regular haunt since the decline of the Lion under its current management. And if you'd told me that a year ago I'd have thought you were mad!
One thing that does amuse me about The Anglers is that there is 'No Fishing' sign outside the riverside entrance.
This pub has really turned a corner. Fullers beer in perfect condition, good, not overly-ambitious food and - most surprising of all - friendly service from a team of youngsters who seem happy to be serving. Inevitably there are delays at the weekend when the weather's nice and it's crowed, but the chaos and churlishness of previous years is missing. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the pub's like after the refurb.
Update on my bad review a few months ago, for a while the Anglers got a lot better as they even changed the nut roast to be vegan, so showing willingness to be vegan-friendly. We went quite often but sadly without warning they no longer do the nut roast. They did a stuffed pepper for us as vegans, made a special effort because of our disappointment on going there and finding no vegan nut roast on the menu, but on some of our friends' orders they got it wrong and kept bringing out the one with cheese! It's a shame after they made an effort, that they now seem to have forgotten the difference between vegan and vegetarian. As I represent the local vegetarian and vegan group I have recommended this pub to lots of people as one of the most vegan-friendly ones in the area but to be honest, although they make the effort they can be a bit hit and miss for vegans.
I have not been to this pub for ages, but am getting tired of reading about lots of children running around. Surely it's "horses for courses". If you like quiet adult pubs, this is obviously not the place for you. On the other hand this is the perfect place for families especially during the summer months.
cont. just scan thru all the posts and you will see further proof. The overall opinion of the others is true: great location in the summer, bad food, terrible service, loadsa kids (if thats waht you want, lovely - hell if you don't!), overall its always a bit of a disappointment
FYI 'pubman2009', 'KTP2' and 'fizzyred' are not locals, they are the management team at the anglers, writing their own reviews! Don't be fooled! This place has an awful reputation for a reason and a few fake reviews are not going to change anything. Maybe they should concentrate on their customers and their jobs instead. Shame, could be such a nice pub.....
Spent the August Bank holiday here and what a fantastic day, so much choice of food from all the various stands in the garden and you could take your food down to the 'beach' (gravelled area down the Thames). Great family atmosphere, staff coped well with the busy lunchtime rush, could not fault the place, in fact other surrounding pub landlords/managers should visit to see how a pub should be run. Well done all.
The Anglers has in the past had a problem with having a couple of disinterested teenagers behind the bar and a couple of dozen thirsty fuming customers this side, since Fuller's took it over the problem seems to have been addressed. The present staff are friendly fun and enthusiastic. The quiz on tuesday is fun and of course the massive garden is perfect for the summer months
Haven't been for a while but still pleasently surprised. They had a band on last night who were really good! The hog roast was a bit off a wash out as the weather was rubbish but the atmosphere inside was fantastic - helped along by the fact you could get served quickly by happy staff! Keep it up please
Stopped in here on Sunday evening and they actually had plenty of staff working for a change. Gone was the interminable wait to get served. I often gave up waiting to get served in here and went next door instead. And the roast beef was much improved - but then it ought to be at nine quid....
Still plagued by kids running up and down. Fair enough in the garden, but not in the bar. Why do people insist on imposing their brats on others?
But it was still a lot better than it used to be. Hope it wasn't just a one-off.
It could just be that this pub is turning the corner - though maybe too early to call. The most irritating thing about this pub is waiting. Waiting endlessly to be served a pint. Waiting endlessly to order food. Waiting endlessly for the food to arrive. With all this you may question my sanity that i have returned here, twice, in the past month. Well its well situated by river - tick, it as a playground where the kids can play while the adults can have time off to chat and drink - big tick, its just the right distance from our house for picturesque bike ride - big tick.
However, as I mentioned this place may be on the up (I hadn't realised it'd just been taken over by a brewery). There are early postive shoots....it only took me 5 minutes to be served, the barmaid smiled and was polite, they have hog roasts, bbqs, pimms 'tent' all now outside with regularity. So yes, I will probably come back here again to see if it was just a flash in the pan or whether the customer is finally coming first.
Im begining to become a regular at the Anglers for the simple reason that its a fun and friendly place to go. I have 2 kids and they loving it here the staff are always so nice and polite well to me they are i dont know how they always have a smile on there face because i have seen some people be really rude to them but they just get on with there job. I went for the St George's weekend and what a lovley time we had even my husband go involved had a go at the coconut shy it was such a fun day and the kids got there faces painted. i was in on wedensday for lunch and had a read at there news letter and there is another day planned for independance day 4th july im excited about that already!!! i just want to say keep up all the good work and see you sunday

Went to this pub last night, It has been took over by Fullers but gone down hill. Full of yobs smashing glasses out side this pub could be really good but yet again a let down.
Didn't even bother when I went past this place yesterday it was more like a kindergarten than a pub.
Beer was OK...Pride and HSB both tasted fine. Not impressed with the menu though. No consideration for veggies. I was there on a Saturday afternoon, and the pub was more like a creche that sold beer. As I'm not a big fan of kids in pubs....and the fact that the people with whom I was drinking were more interested in children than they were in beer.......it was not a good quaffing experience. And for geoffandmag, phone number is 020 89777475.
Not a bad venue. Nice to look at the passing traffic on the river.Beer not always in peak condition. It would be nice to be able to 'phone them without the expense of an 0871 number so I won't bother

Angling for disaster? This expansive riverside pub in Teddington has a lot of promise but a lot to answer for. The weekend is nearly here
As a discrete, very regular punter, I have noticed a catalogue of calamities that would deter a casual drinker, but something about the place pulls you back in.
The food menu is now fresher; less pub grub, more gastropub. That is when they havent run out.
The weekends, the light at the end of our working weeks, promises a range of ales, continental beers, fresh fish on the menu, and glorious Sunday roasts.
What you get on occasions like the recent fantastic weather is running out of most of the menu, soft drinks, change, bar snacks, as well as putting up with toilets from hell, and children turning the inside of the pub into their own private playground. As if having one outside wasnt enough. People turned away because the demand is too high. People leaving due to the extraordinarily long wait.
Wow. If there was only a manager around to talk to. No visible presence. The place is overstaffed, but with no sense of direction. Maybe due to fear of a manager sacking them, like the public tirade I witnessed one evening. Shocking and indiscreet. Whatever happened to that girl should have been done behind closed doors.
My recommendation would be to go on a week night (quiz night on Tuesdays are great!) where the food will be quick and hot, you can relax, and enjoy the evening, without battling the elements. If the Anglers was a band, itd be The Kinks. A lot to iron out.
Excellent pub to drop in on when your out on a wander.Excellent imported beers and pretty decent food. Bar staff very friendly too.
Always hated this pub for all the reasons mentioned below. I've lived in Teddington for 20 years and have longed for it to be taken over by someone who knew what they were doing and cared. Very excited to discover that Fullers have bought it, and went in late last night for a swift Pride. Have to say that, although the staff were friendly and efficient enough (an innovation in itself!), the decor, clientele and - surprisingly - condition of the beer were all rather depressing. I don't know where the dressed up 18-25 year olds that hogged the bar and open lounge area (leaving the front and back of the pub totally deserted) but it didn't look like St Marys. And they weren't going to move to let us through if they could help it. I hope they aren't going to be regulars. The beer though was the most disappointing I've had in a Fullers pub. Flat, insipid and well ... just generally out of condition. Let's hope it all sorts itself out and October's refurb The Anglers becomes the pub it probably used to be before the days of managed houses.
A great pub which should come into its own as spring approaches...
Even though the sun didn't shine today, the Anglers was buzzing! Great sunday lunch and friendly staff. The best yorkshire puddings in Teddington!!!! I think we've found our new local haunt!!
Went for Sunday lunch which was fantastic! There was a magician entertaining the kids (and us big kids) at the table, the food was great - there was 10 of us and we got our food in 15 minutes! Great puds and again great service. Not sure about the other comments but twice in two weeks and we have had nothing to complain about.
Well we went back to give another try!!!!!!!!!! Fuller's have taken over but there is no improvement in fact it as gone down hill fast. Staff did no know what they were doing (traing needed). Food is over priced for Brake Brothers! Food service was very slow we walked out after first course to another pub for mains and desserts! Will not be going back not that they care! Very Very poor. Far better places to go in Teddington.
I have to agree about how slow the service is. I went there on Wednesday & waited 45 mins for my food. When it came is was cold & thev presentation was not easy on the eye.
I asked to speak to the landlord but was told he was working in the kitchen so he couldnt come & talk to me.
I can not understand how someone wether he is the Tenant or Manager can not be available to handle a complaint because he deems the kitchen is where he should be?
Surely he should be available to talk to customers & train his bar staff, which was clearly not the case in this instance?
This poor experience left a bad taste in my mouth but that was not the end of my troubles.
I returned in the morning at & 8am to pick up my car, to drive to work, only to find the car park had a chain & padlock across the exit.
I tried to get someone from the establishment to unlock the exit, but no one was to be seen in the building. Needless to say after 30 minutes I had too leave the car, which was highly inconvienient.
This car park has never & I repeat never been locked in the past, & as there is no signage to explain that it will be locked, I have to say i find this level of hospitatilty applalling.
From now on I will frequent other pubs in the area, & hope I can find an establishment where it is run by a company or landlord who knows how to look after its cutomers.
We went in January, the staff were so helpful to us as veggies and vegans, we got some lovely food there. We went today after the new management took over (we had no idea this was happening), they were really unhelpful and inflexible and seemed to even begrudge letting us buy just chips! We will not be back and nor will our friends who were with us last month and many of us would have become regulars if they had remained as helpful as they were in January. They have gone downhill fast in terms of attitude under the new management.
The sun was out which meant one thing - only decent place in Teddington with a beer garden - The Anglers. Having frequented many a time last summer I thought I knew what to expect when I went there yesterday. What a difference!! There were lots of friendly helpful staff, the service was quick and the food was good. Lets hope they can keep it up through the summer!!
I went in with a group of friends on Saturday night and was pleasently surprised. The place looked clean and tidy as did the staff(which makes a nice change) .The new ales were excellent and the menu seems to have move away from the previous microwaved choice of M&B. Service was slowed up slightly by the new till system but the staff were helpful and friendly. Will be back very soon!!
Well went in for the opening day! No credit cards but at least the staff were very nice. We will go back in a few weeks when they have got their feet on the ground. Fuller's Pride Yum Yum. Food was slow but very good.
I also understand as stated by milsonman that Fullers take over on Tuesday 3rd, having been drinking and eating in a selection of their pubs for a few years I am sure that things will be getting better. At least they have plenty of experience of running riverside pubs with large gardens so will be ensuring the management team will be capable of handling the summer volumes. I for one will be giving it a go as soon as they are up and running.
The pub has just been bought from M&B by Fullers
Another terrible evening down this pub has led me to sign up and make a comment. I totally agree with most of the average and bad comments I've read about this pub and agree with the comments made by felloweship. The service is terrible, so much so that when we my mates and I see new bar staff we're amazed that their service/attitude matches their colleagues, ho-hum. The food is terrible, it tastes like it's all cooked in one fryer and funnily enough it is! (As confirmed by previous management). If you want good food go next door to The Tide End Cottage, cheaper as well. To pick on a traditional English obsession the toilets are near festival standard. In addition I believe the age group is supposed to be 21+ but this is rarely the case in the evening so avoid like the plague after 9pm. I've drunk is this pub for 12+ years and I've got used to it being bad, my friends and I only return because......
On a plus side, once you've been served, the beer is excellent and caters for all tastes. In the summer the garden is very nice, particularly as it backs onto the Thames, but it does suffer from excess children. In all a good location suthering from bad management all round. Teddington offers a vast selection of pubs for such a small area and this one sits near the bottom of the pile. Search out The Old Goat for good food, beer and a similiar style. Or for a proper pub go see Dermot at The Adelaide on Park Road.
decent enough boozer but as one punter said, the garden is more a kids playground. don't think if ever eaten here so can't comment on the food. Huge place.
Nearly didn't visit this pub having read the recent reviews. What a mistake that would have been ! My friend and I were met with a prompt, friendly welcome. My pint of Skinners was spot on. My friend drinks lager so his input counts for nothing. Nevertheless he assures me it was perfectly acceptable. We both ordered burgers, beef and venison respectively. Both tasted great and we didn't have to wait long either. Throw in pleasant decor and a fab location and you've got a pub that we'll certainly return to.
All you guys work too hard for your money to waste it in this pub. This is the closest pub to my house and (as a regular pub go-er) I've not been in here for years. What can I say? Terrible service - the worst I have ever had in the UK. They must train their staff to be that poor. Manager (female braided hair) was agressively rude when I complained and (when I asked for the head office address) she told me to leave. I never got the impression that I fitted the market they were going for. Although I'm young, highly educated and got cash going spare I was always snubbed in here. Unique ability of bar staff to take ten minutes to serve you a drink (even when the staff outnumber the total customers)... Mitchells & Butlers should be aware of this pub. It's a prime example of a venue that is held back by the attitude of the management. Never have the food - menu is stupidly ambitious for a kitchen that can't even do the basics. Food is insultingly expensive. Staff have no idea. I went in once and some bright spark had locked the keys to the cellar in the cellar --hence they were out of most drinks. Beer garden is effectively an infant school playground. Ideal for a relaxing afternoon (or not). horrid horrid horrid. Totally outclassed by most pubs in the area.
Restauranty sort of place, the food was good, didn't try the beer but there was a reasonable range and it seemed ok. Pleasant service.
Stupidly I decided to go down here last weekend with the warm weather. I came here this time last year and things seemed to be sorted with a new manager, menu and finally enough staff. We even came back for the best Bonfire night ever. However things have gone downhill again. Had to wait for 20 minutes to get served and then 40 minutes for my food to arrive. When it did turn up the burger was cold and chips burnt. The new manager was no where to be seen and the staff looked lost and embarrassed. One member of staff even commented that the manager is never around. Such a waste of a great location. My advice is to skip this pub and head into Teddington itself or next door to the Tied end.
After a long and hot recent Saturday, took the family down the the Anglers for a beer and some food. The place looked like a bomb had hit it. The food, which took over 50 minutes to arrive, was appalling, cold, half cooked chips, steak burnt to a crisp, the salad looks as if it had been dragged out of the nearby Thames. I shall make a point of never going back to the Anglers, which is a shame as it has a very nice location, but head straight for the Tides End just next door. A much better pub.
The garden and river are wonderful. They also have the captive audience of the river otherwise they would struggle. The service is appallingly slow, there never seems to be anyone in charge, the food is slow, over priced and mediocre.
I never thought i'd say this. I've lived near this pub for years and seen it in many guises. In recent times, it has been lacking in every department and i've sworn i'd never go back more times than i'd care to remember. However, it seems to have turned a corner as my last visit was a real pleasure. On a sunny day you get a BBQ with Peroni on tap (at a reasonable price) in one of the best pub gardens in London. And there's the promise of an extended cider range as of this weekend, adding to an already outstanding beer offer. Count me in!
Great location but shame about the food - it really let's the place down. Ordered a steak sandwich and the meat was overcooked and tough, the bread hard and the salad wilted. My partners tart wasn't much better. The rocket in the accompanying salad must have been over a week old and most of the leaves were black. I haven't had pub food this poor in a while.
Walked along from Kingston-upon-Thames and stopped here. Large garden, cycle friendly, good service and range of drinks. Accept cards at the bar (bonus) ... only downside was that ir is heaving with kids on a sunny weekend. There are kid-free (licensed) areas of the garden but the best bet would be to drink inside on a nice day.
Good quiz on a Tuesday evening. Our food was nice, fairly standard gastro pub fare. The bar staff were very friendly and the bar manager in particular stood out for attentiveness and customer focus. They have several guest ales and I tried the Tribute - very good if a tad warm. All in all not bad and I would say it has improved from my last visit. Some of the comments about children are definitely right though - on a summers day the place is heaving with families so avoid if this is not your thing.
nicely decorated and great outside space. But if you don't facny drinking whilst a load of kids run around screaming, whilst their parents ignore them.....then don't come here.
will try the place again soon to see if i change my mind.
Great views great location. Had a nice beer and larger in the sunshine. Seemed to be a nice mix of people and rather friendly at the bar. Great if you have kids. One major disappoitment was the food: ordered a hand made burger with cheese and bacon. 8.00. The burger was very small and had no taste to it, it seemed it was burnt, very small portion of chips, apparently the mayo is ment to be special but it was very plain. Worse burger I have had along the river. Will the place another chance soon.
If you've got kids this is a great pub to visit in the warmer weather. Not really a drinkers' pub but for families it's the real deal. Service is not as bad as some make out.
Riverside pub almost out of view of the river. Seems a bit soulless, and the nice old building has been somewhat ruined by the ugly conservatory tacked onto the front. Don't want to say too many bad things about it, though. Great location and I've seen much worse. An okay place, and I'm willing o think better of it.
This pub looks like it has gone through some ups and downs.
Great location
And a new management team in getting things ready for the summer.
Watch this space - lets see if things can turn around
I believe it will - this is a great pub with so much potential.
Anyone who has had a bad time here i urge you over the next few months give it another chance and talk to the guys in charge. They seem intent on making this pub great once again... so help them. Things do not change over night - but this place could have what it takes to win people back around. But it will take time...
... lets see if the comments on here start to improve over time
Great view, eccentric, chaotic service.
Nice real ales, good ambience, crap service (Prepared to think it might be the staff first time but as it keeps happening it is a management issue. Sort it out.
Thank god they have the view...
For decent service & nice outside space either go nerxt door to the Tide End or if the other end of town the Garden of the Queen Dowager or inside the Adelaide. All different but you could learn a lot.
Great pub, great location just don't expect the staff to remember that you've ordered food! Waited an hour and a half for meal only to be told, after asking how much longer my wait is,that they'd run out of dish an hour ago.Useless...
I've given up on this place. I only live round the corner and have been in countless times recently and it's just impossible to get served. I don't think the barstaff could be any more useless. The Tide End next door is a much better run pub.
Terrible.terrible.terrible. Had high hopes for this place, it looked nice, welcoming, and certainly big! But oh dear its such a let down. Firstly, there was barely any food left such a limited choice left (and it wasnt late in the evening!) The food itself not good! Take for example the goats cheese salad with beetroot and squash no squash. When this was queried the girl went off to sort it out and never came back (when we did see her again, it was perched on a bar stool having a mobile phone conversation) The cheese and chutney sandwich, allegedly served on rustic bread. No, more like your bog standard cheap loaf not acceptable! The cheese seemed processed and was too fine with not much flavour. The apple on the side was imaginatively presented as a whole apple with the bottom cut off. The chicken with chorizo mostly burnt! Chips taste was good but some were very hard in places. There was an overload of green garnish on the plate of the steak wilted and discoloured not appetising. Even when someone came to clear the plates, nothing was said by them not even a was everything ok? comment, which probably because they were afraid of the answer. We did complain but it did no good. You do tend to be a bit stuck as youve already paid for it all beforehand. The pub itself is nicely decorated and it has a nice feel. The garden is huge with plenty of seating but its all so uncared for. The tables, etc were filthy, bits of other meals left there, grafitti on a table near the bar (who actually does that in view and why??) As for the toilets well I recommend you only use them if desperate. I like the idea of the Belfast sinks, but everywhere again was dirty and they stank. The toilet in one of the cubicles was even coming off the wall slightly. One plus point the girl that served us with the original order was friendly cant comment for the rest, didnt see that many.
Would we go there again never, absolutely not. Suggest you avoid it, there are nicer places around!
This pub has such a great location it's a shame it's let down by the microwaved food and slow service. Too much of a family pub on the weekend for my liking (but great if you have kids, I'm sure) and it took so long to even order food, let alone receive it, we almost gave up.
Great looking pub and great location. Just found it a bit un-organised mess. As previous people have said, the wait for a drink is close to infuriating. I used to work in a gastro pub that does the food etc and we were non-stop running around etc but this place just dont seem to care! Went on a saturday afternoon and ramma jammed with kids and tables where you could sit if it wasnt for all the dirty food places/glasses that hadnt been collected. The bar staff were friendly enough however the service was slow and disappointing. Havent tried the good yet and not likely too!
however, try a pint of their rosy cider and the pub seems a better place!
Service is unbelievably slow here. Menu looks good and the food was not bad, but they need to do something about the service
Cycled to this pub a few times in the summer as it's a nice ride along the Thames towpath. Huge beer garden which has too much shade for my liking. Haven't been inside much but it looks comfy and modern and I have no horrors to report regarding the toilets. Playground for kids - yes, shade this bit but most people who choose to sit in a beer garden (smokers excluded) want to enjoy uor rare British sunshine. Beers - Timothy Taylor Landlord and Deuchars IPA were on both times I went, and as they are two of my favourites I felt well spoilt. Good lager range too. I've only eaten form the bbq and did have to point out to the guy behind the counter that I did not want my salad put together by his assistant as he had an open, bleeding sore on his hand! He did send him away on that. When I asked how long our sausage sarnies would take I was told they'd not be long as the sausages are precooked. Hmmm. Good for a beer and the main food menu looks ok, but I let you draw your own conclusion for the expensive bbq!
Great location, terrible service and terrible food.
I've seen people get one drink (eventually) from the bar and then sit in the garden all afternoon drinking and eating their own food and drink. I can't blame them.
Very much worth a visit but, as others have said, you have to be prepared to wait to be served. The wait is generally worth it due to the good beers and lively young atmosphere. The garden is a bit more family orientated so I avoid that!
Great for doing invisible man impersonations at the bar.....
Lovely spot. Have been here numerous times at different times of year. It is very much driven by the weather and as it has a kiddies playround is unsurprisingly packed on sunny weekends. I've also seen them run out of food and some drinks when it's like this. Shame really, both for customers who suffer this and the management. They could do so much better out of this place with more advance planning. Having said that, service is generally friendly but be prepared to wait a while to get served when it's busy. To be honest for the sort of place it is (not a real boozer, more of a kid friendly gastropub) Continental style table service would be great on weekends when the weather's good. A massive selection of draught beers (over 20) including loads of lagers, fruit beer and a few real ales.
Utterly, utterly useless. How can an establishment that is supposed to be making money from flogging booze n burgers to punters run out of food and beer and still be around? Are they selling something else 'behind the bar' to bankroll this incompetence. Went there on Sunday and they had run out of most beers and practically all food. Avoid the acidic staff as well.
Quite a nice pub, I went early evening on a Sunday so it was full of uncontrolled brats running around squirting tomato ketchup on the floor. You can however find a few quiet spots and I would definitely give it another go at night when the little darling are safely tucked up in bed.
Great pub with good atmosphere and well kept ales. However, the wait at the bar can be long and don't even think about ordering food if the sun is out. It takes hours to turn up and when it does it's not worth the wait or the money spent. Bring sandwiches instead.
I agree. We go here once a year at Easter, I shall not be going again. The service was awful and when we complained, even that took nearly an hour to get a response, and again, there was no apology but a string of excuses. It was a shambles, seemed like lots of staff running round like headless chickens.
anonymous - 18 Apr 2007 22:45 |
Nice pub shame about the staff and food. We went there on Easter Monday and got there about 2pm hoping to have missed the lunchtime rush and have a quick bite to eat and then continue cycling upto Hampton Court.
There was an outside bbq run by two very nice lads who knew nothing about running a grill. An hour and half later and twice asking where our food was we finally got our food and it was cold! Knowing they were busy we ordered a side of chips to tide us over utnil our main arrived, these also took an hour and half. We were not the only ones who were served their food late and cold several tables around us were complaining of the same thing.
Complaining to the managment was not helpful he was not at all appologetic and somwhat aggressively said 'what do you expect its busy'. A sunny easter long weekend of course its busy, thats why you put more staff on (or when I walked in restaurants thats what we did ... planned ahead).
It was faulty towers and was not at all professional and for such a lovely spot was hugely disapointing. Go there for a beer but don't order food.
I think some of the visitors to this pub have a personal chip on their shoulders. Have they been barred for bad behaviour? The Anglers situated on the opposite side of the Thames to Teddington lock is a good spot for a drink or a meal. THe pub can be approached by foot or bike along a footpath from both Kingston and Richmond or by boat along the Thames. The pub even has its own landing stage! The pub has an idillic setting by the bridge and gives a good view of both the bridge and Teddington weir. Sitting in the garden on a lovely day can rarely be better. The sun lounge bar and comfortable seating is what might be called 'the snug' this sets the pub apart from the others. It has not been spoilt be current trends for mock leather and polish. The pub has a comfortable warm feel and time can be spent chatting at ease in a variety of settings. The Manager and staff are friendly and efficient but there is a wait of up to 30 minutes for food due to the exceptional popularity of this excellent establishment. The food is varied and original. Well done to all that work there!
This pub is a little out of the way for me but I still try and get there every couple of months or so, more in the summer, and I am always glad that I have. Went there on Friday night with a mate after wathcing some filming the the studio nearby and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the beer. He played safe and had Youngs Ordinary and I had the Butcombe Brunel bitter. A good night out.
Completely agreeSmiley, this pub looks good but is atrocious. Way to expensive. I ALWAYS have to ask the bar staff to top up my drink as they always leave it about 3-4 inches too short, then they look at me like ive just called their mum a dog.
There are far better pubs in Teddington, and the foods crap
Everytime my mates say "lets meet up at the Anglers" I think why not, it can't be that bad. But than i'm reminded how shocking it is, it's not a pub, i don't know what to call it. The Bar staff are rude and bitter (because they work there i suppose) just waiting for everyone to leave. how hard is it to smile once in a while!!
You're right there Cedric! "Tacky, no authenticity, cheap, tasteless- and that's just the clientele!!"
And as for RyanJones2006, you're talking bollocks mate!!!! you must work there! they're not friendly and the pool tables are crap and expensive!
Miss this pub at all costs, Go round the corner to the Tide End instead! friendly bar staff warm atmosphere and no idiots!
A pub looks great and has a good atmosphere.I like the way they offer table service when it is not too busy. Have not eaten there but enjoyed a few good nights
Tacky, no authenticity, cheap, tasteless- and that's just the clientele!!
For those of us that enjoy slightly more than just idle chit-chat and dolled up females with too much make up, this pub is a definate NEIN!
The unmistakable whiff of cheap perfume hits you as you enter the vicinity. The local alpha-chavs sit menacingly round pretend nous furniture, comparing ring tones. The bar staff greet you with a foul grimace, only answering ponderings with a grunt.
Avoid this pub, it's not happening.
Just tried their BBQ. The menu stated "Suffolk Pork Sausages - 5.00". Well only one sausage, and seems like it was reheated and overcooked on the outside. I have had better at a fairground. Once again, I have to give up on this place. Last time it was a charcoaled burger. The pints of Staropramen also had bits of yeast in them, so someone needs to teach the staff how to clean lines properly. The catch was broken on the gate to the childrens play area, so the gate remained open. Big grass area with a sign keep off the grass, I thought this was a pub. Wooden benches were filthy, so had to search for somewhere clean to sit. Well, this is one pub that gets crossed off my list.
Wow...what can i say! Very likeable pub. Staff friendly, food good! Prime location! Pool table use...slightly high but pleasanlty good. Would most defintely go back again.
It's always been a good pub making the most of its river front location with a good range of beers and decent food, but the recent make-over has made it even more attractive by bringing in enough of the younger crowd to make the place lively but not too many to put off the traditional tourist/family visitor. The only problem these days is finding a seat! Thoroughly recommended.
It isn't so much a beer garden as the Anglers has taken over the entire area between here and the footbridge. It took forever to get served but this was on a Saturday night and the person ahead of me was ordering food and drinks for six: this isn't a problem in a restaurant with table service but in a pub it causes a bottleneck and it is no fault of the barstaff. Youngs Ordinary (which seems to be appearing as a guest ale more and more along with its now-stablemate Charles Wells Bombardier) was OK. Yes, the clientele is predominantly young and in some cases gorgeous, in others you think you've pitched up in a rugby scrum par accident. Maybe they should start doing table service for food? I'm thinking out loud here but until a few decades ago, later in Northern England, waiter service in pubs was a fact. Now that so many are focussing on food perhaps it is time to investigate this option here. Places such as the near-ubiquitous Fullers / Thai Cafes already do a sit-down waiter service so let's get through the bottleneck by letting people do the food / plastic order bit where they are and let those of us who only want a pint order at the bar. Makes sense?
This places has had its ups and downs over the years, run down, done up, run down ad infinitum.
It is OK for a few beers in the summer sun, but beware of the kids in the pub garden.
You know you've arrived at another 'Money Factory' as soon as you step in. Gastro Pub (obviously) which caters for families with its large childrens play area. Not the sort of place you'd go of an evening, and probably only would go for three reasons: 1: have kids 2: live next door 3: Work in Teddington Studios.
I thought it had improved, but on going in the other day I can only confirm the other recent comments - overrun with children, more of a creche than a pub. Full of IT consultants and their air brained wives, SUV's parked outside no doubt. Never has a clientele ruined a pub so much, which is a shame as I think they have done their refit very well..
Great location. Dreadful presentation. Four of us (2 of each) came here one Saturday afternoon after Easter. More like a kindergarten than a pub - it was heaving with toddlers and yummy mums - made for walking through the throng with four drinks in one's hand a very precarious affair.
Service was simply atrocious. Being such a sunny day, no one was drinking/eating inside. Hence there were maybe 22 people at the bar patiently and quietly waiting to be served, nearly all requesting food and paying by plastic. How many bar staff? One. With broken English.
Pathetic.
Walked over the bridge and down towards Kingston to drink instead.
Just awful.

3 real ales are served here in comfortable surroundings, the place had a relaxed touch to it, and we were told that the food in here is good although we only had time for a couple of ales.Recommended for a drink before going to the studio next door.
Went to this sad riverside pub and confirm don't visit at weekends!!
The write-up is absolutely correct, saying the joint was full of tiny rug-rats, either screaming or running amok in front of their fawning parents. (I was looking for the Teddington Studios.)
A gay young lad carrying food, shook his head at a lass (well, I think it was a lass) and said, "Sorry, we don't have special rooms. We are not an aircraft!"
Nursing my pint, I asked what was up.
"I want to change my baby." she answered.
"Oh, that's all." I grinned. "Try the charity shop down the road. You could probably get a good scarf in return for it"
The lad almost dropped his plates, he laughed so much.
I adjourned to the Tide End, next door, for a peaceful drink!
mikem - 20 Feb 2006 15:36 |
Agggh - what has happened to the Anglers? Has gone all smart, with a level of pretentiousness to match, but is still soul-less. full of kids in the evenings (of the teenage variety) and even smaller ones during the day. made the mistake of being talked into a visit on christmas eve. remarkably unpleasant experience, mostly being shoved around by drunk boys, and left as soon as I could think of a good excuse and went somewhere else
patsy - 27 Jan 2006 16:01 |
This pub is modern and a bit too faced to kids. but still nice when you vcant get into tide end!
DrMRB - 26 Jan 2006 17:59 |
This is my favourite place around either for a midweek pint or a sesh on the weekend
And no other pub i can find does Addlestones which is the finest drink known to man
"Actually they don't serve cocktails."
Lady on the phone just told me they do around 5 cocktails. But then again what does she know hey?
the best pub in town if you don't mind your pint being overturned by a 6 year kid running riot around your table. You feel like you have to watch your language cos there are so many kids around you - yes, make a pub child friendly (in order to attract the parents) but shove them in a pit full of coloured balls (the kids not parents) and let the adults enjoy their 'special' time.
Actually they don't serve cocktails. Bar staff are very friendly, food is what is expected from a Gastro. The more limited menu is a good thing but why does the kitchen stop making mains after 8pm?!?
Grown fond of this place recently-got some good Youngs beers on and i feel the prices are Ok for Tedds.
anonymous - 1 Dec 2005 18:54 |
Think that this pub caters for all sorts - so I guess is bound to upset some along the way... however.... who does KingRaama approve of? Maybe you should set up your own pub and show them how it's done??
Think this pub is worth a visit, especially in the summer months.
Chloe - 22 Nov 2005 18:28 |
But they serve cocktails
the annoying people are the ones with kids who sit outside the "Childrens Area" - It's a pub not a creche, have a bit of consideration!
However, anyone like KingRaama who complains that in a pub that they can't make cocktails is very silly- It's a pub, not a cocktail bar!
anonymous - 6 Nov 2005 09:53 |
This a great pub for young people with kids precisely because it isn't frequented by miserable sexist old gits like the person below.
Where to begin with this god forsaken pit. First off probably not one person behind the bar knows how to make a cocktail or any drink that involves remembering more than 2 ingredients as the landlord has employed young sparkling little girls who spend there days hoping someone from a modelling agency will come in and take them away from everything. Next up is the kids bonanza hour (Daily from 3 till 4). Throughout this hour the pub completely fills up with screaming kids and young mothers who's biggest challenge in life is getting to 1000 on who wants to be a millionaire. Oh and don't go for Sunday lunch as A: Its a bit dry B: You wont get served
My friend and I visited this pub one lunchtime earlier in the week, purely because the Tide End Cottage doesn't have a car park. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least and resolved to share my experience which contrasts somewhat to my previous entry. What a lovely, friendly barman. I decided to detour from my usual Stella and have a pint of bitter. The barman (who had greeted us with a beaming smile and friendly banter) immediately spotted my confusion over what to order and suggested a Canadian beer, pouring some into a glass for me to try. Top service. Admittedly, it was during school hours so was bereft of screaming brats which served to compound the pleasantness but I have to say I shan't be overlooking this place anymore.
Pretentious and overpriced - full of the yummy mummy set with their screaming children running riot. Beer garden the only redeeming feature but The Tide's End next door is far superior.
This has been my local for 4 years now and I have grown to have a soft spot for this pub, when it's hot, you know it, it has a great garden with river view for the kids and adults alike. The beer itself isn't that expensive compared to some, and the young types appear to have moved on, as I would say the general age group now is 25-40. Worth a visit.
bloody awful full of people who just want there kids to run riot lots going on in garden if staff cant see this they must be blind or dont care decor a bit ?? smells of stale food not that great its all about location, location, loacation
anonymous - 26 Jun 2005 17:11 |
Oh dear, it's really not good is it. So much wasted potential. Huge place, massive garden, great location yet... No. Don't bother. Go to the Tide End Cottage round the corner - same location and so much more to offer.
My temporary local and I'm not too sorry about it. Good ales at reasonable prices (2.40 for some) and interesting menu. First time I went I was struck by the number of very obviously wealthy 19 year-olds, and it's not as friendly as pubs can be, in fact I find I've headed the other direction to the Forester's Arms at Hampton Wick in preference lately. Obviously aim to attract families with the playground, yet don't provide a non-smoking area.
Before the refurb this was a great pub, now it looks like a furniture showroom! - In a word it's rubbish
I personally think that location is all this pub has going for it. For the prices you pay it's surprising to see so many 'Chavs' there.
Peter - 3 Nov 2004 16:27 |
My local pub, a real favourite. Food varies but is generally good. Beers are always excellent, nice to see staropramen lager on tap too. Good pool tables upstairs although ten pounds for an hour and a ten pound deposite is a tad steep. Great location and garden next to the river although beeing able to have cheese on burgers during barbecues and some nicer chips would really make this almost perfect. Inside there is generally a genial atmosphere, personally i dont feel it is tatty, in fact it has a lovely retro flavour- note the original space invaders machine. Staff are generally good although they can be a tad dopey.
Joshua - 5 Oct 2004 00:58 |
Dont like this pub, simple items of food on the menu are disguised and made to look trendy with long winded names,,, paying nearly 3 for a carling of all beers!! is not acceptable just for the right to sit on a sofa that looks comfy but isnt
chucky - 18 Jul 2004 10:49 |
went sunday, enjoyed
Good beer (I had a pint of Wherry) good grub (I went straight for the pudding), My mates seemed to enjoy it as well, One mates ordered a fetta cheese salad and asked for a sausage on top which they did (extra 50p thought). Coffee good too. Wasn't too crowded but one assumes being right next to the lock, come the better weather, come the crowds!
I remember i used to go here many moons ago (way pre refurb) when it was in decline and looking rather sad. Now, it seems well kept and worth a trip!
jon-paul - 5 Apr 2004 14:12 |
Great spot down by the river and very relaxed atmosphere all round. Love the deco and the pool room upstairs. Good place for a few beers with the boys. Food is good but pricey.
Alex - 13 Feb 2004 15:39 |
this pub has benefited from major revamp and is ace for the odd bit of welly with friends from working at Hampton Court Flower Show (thank god none of the flower show visitors go there). Good pint of old speckled hen(pricey) and always guaranteed to see dads yelling at kids-amusement
Charlie - 28 Jan 2004 10:36 |
Good looking staff, better looking manager's. Great atmosphere, drink, serving quality food you not find in any of its surrounding competitors. In short a Home from Home.
Diggelar - 15 Jan 2004 13:33 |
Decent pub for beer and food. Good playground for kids and plenty of seating inside and out. Good for Sunday lunch although bit pricey (but hey, this is Teddington). Easy access to river walks and has its own mooring points for boats. Interesting decor, modern in some points, more old style in others. Good conservatory at the back. Parking can be tricky, but all in all a decent pub.
anonymous - 6 Jan 2004 11:13 |
I've finally given up on this place. Four or five times I've been in and the beer was always off. How difficult can it be to serve a pint of lager??? I guess the sort of people who go in there haven't noticed the beer or maybe I've just been unlucky?
Chris - 17 Dec 2003 00:34 |
Beer garden suffers in the summer from the large injection of sreaming kids that descend en masse. Serves them right for installing climbing apparatus... but I guess that's what they are after. Apparently some poncey types from some Sunday morning yoof TV programme drink there sometimes. Good for: Teddington Studio employees and 2.4 children.
Lacks atmosphere...garden full of screaming kids in the summer. Best to avoid if you're after a cosy, intimate evening.
richardaustin - 13 Oct 2003 15:31 |
Used to work here about 1990, was brilliant then but gradually went into decay. Now redone, modern but still kept its pubby feel. It's probably just me but I miss the stuffed fish and the patterned carpet. Table service is a good idea.
Visited The Anglers on a couple of occasions and absolutely loved it! The BBQ they have in the beer garden is an excellent idea. Great place to go to chill out!
Rachel - 17 Jul 2003 21:35 |
Excellent and tasteful refurbishment, lovely in the evening with all the candles lit. Garden good in summer, ideal for a stop when taking a riverside walk over Teddington Lock.

I used to live there, before it was refurbished and I loved it. It was full of atmosphere and it was such a family pub, it was so friendly. Since the refurbishment it has no charactor or atmosphere. I hope it does really bad.

Have only been into this pub once. I needed to make a pit stop, while driving past. Did not have time for a beer, but the toilets were great... Thanks.. Thought I would give it a good rating anyway.

Very nice indeed since the refurb. It used to be a bit of a dive but is now very smart and has a great selection of Belgian beers - Hoegaarden on tap and bottles of Leffe, Chimay and Duvel. The beer garden is massive.

Recently refurbished this offers a relaxed drinking environment in a stylish surrounding. Ideal in the summer for sitting by the river with a huge beer garden and frequent BBQ. Good beer, friendly staff and young atmosphere.
