Pub serves the surrounding estate, and I'd guess there aren't many outsiders among its clientele. There is a huge contrast between the public pub which was full of extremely loud, sweary types and a little bit intimidating. Some yob had gobbed on the wall of the Gents. However, the lounge bar is nice and quiet with a very pleasant older crowd. The barman was very welcoming and didn't demur when I asked for a replacement pint of AK, having noticed he'd just changed the barrel. The public bar gets 3, but the lounge bar gets 8, so I'll award this pub a 6 overall.

Had a great time at this pub on more than one occasion since moving to st albans. They have great people behind the bar and from what the regulars in there are saying the new guvnor has changed it and its now got better people in and no trouble anymore like it once had.
Shame it doesn't do food, cos its probably only thing missin now, gotta go to another pub to eat, so whoever that's down too, yr missin a great chance of keepin us in longer if you feed us.

I think I've been a bit harsh on this place in the past. OK, so I still wouldn't venture into the lefthand bar under any circumstances but I've been in the righthand side a couple of times recently and downed several perfectly adequate pints of McMullen Country in the company of other jolly drunkards.

Local pub for local people. Beer not great.

This is a pub for local people. No trouble seen but you could sense the potential, a friend overheard a conversation between regulars about them and myself. Service was good and the beer was ok. Not in a hurry to go back though.

Been in here a couple of times recently. The last time, which was a Friday night, they had one guy dashing back and forth between the two bars. Beer was barely drinkable, but luckily I was pissed already and not feeling too picky. This place must only manage to stay open at all because the next nearest pub is the Rats Castle.

How do go for a pint during lessons? Put your hand up and ask if you can be excused?

Great for a sneaky pint during lessons =)

The Camp is a just about acceptable "local pub for local people", and the McMullens Best is drinkable. The right hand side is OK for a couple of pints. The left hand side I've never visited, as it is always full of pissed up England-shirt-wearing gentlemen who glare at you as you stroll innocently past. In the summer they're sat outside as well. Certainly not a pub to go out of your way for.

Popped in yesterday and was shocked by all the women swearing and the children monopolising the games machines. The beer (Mac's Country Best) was nothing to write home about either. AND there was just one poor barman to serve both sides of the pub. Left unimpressed.

A typical mcmullens pub Ridiculously expensive but still full of low life, chavs and pikeys. piss poor service and even worse beer. They serve stuff that they call food, but most others would call s**t.

I took advice from an expert before visiting this pub! I popped in today, and am pleased to report that if you go in the main, large bar it's a more pleasant experience all round. This afternoon was very sunny and the McMullens beer went down a treat. The service was very good.
The Camp is situated 5 minutes from the Alban Way and the Hatfield Road, but somehow it's a bit "out of the way" for passers-by. I guess that 9 out of 10 drinkers in this pub live very close by.

A huge, somewhat impersonal pub. I don't know why, but I was surprised to find that it's part of the McMullens empire. Country Best and AK beers were both available today.
Good points: Friendly barstaff and the beer.
Bad points: The grumpiest lot of fellow customers I have met in a long time, still ranting on about Inger-land not winning the World Cup; SkySports making its presence felt; and decor that was really rather drab.
Obviously there are worse pubs around, but I can't think of a single reason to rush back here. If McMullens care about their staff, they'll think about giving the two on duty today a posting somewhere else.
Sorry if this sounds grumpy, but the Camp can't be that good, otherwise I wouldn't be the first person to write about it on BITE. 6/10
