Popped in for a pint after a day in the Palace. Had Abbot which was fine. Also saw Youngs IPA and lager on draft. Large open area inside partly set up for diners, but plenty of tables not. Beer garden at rear was well used. Had a snack, but noticed that a 10% service charge had been added after looking at the very small print on the menu. Staff were fine but have deducted a couple of points for piling on the bill.

Acceptable pub with a couple of (not very exciting) real ales. Best feature is the pleasant back garden. Best pub in the area, though, is the Mute Swan.
Nice pub Good Beer & Food.
Seem to have the odd decent guest ale on, but not the cheapest of places, and has a very gastro feel to it. Although maybe that's just me...

First time drinking in this part of town. Went there with the missus to initially have something to eat, then later to meet up with friends.
From the outside it looks nice and the inside looks very nice and modern, shame that it doesn't reflect on the attitude of the staff. I ordered two main courses and was told by the manager, as I'm about to pay, that their card machines aren't working. Luckily I had enough notes to pay but as the bartender took the money she looked over at the manager as if I was not worthy of being served.
As we were waiting for the food, an older couple had also ordered their food- the bartender was quick to clean their table but despite also serving us she did not even bother coming over and cleaning our dirty table.
The food came, my missus's plate looked and tasted very nice, my steak on the other hand clearly wasn't medium rare but it was tasty enough so I didn't bother complaining.
After eating we met up with our friends, later on I paid for some more alcohol- a very stupid pricing strategy was on offer 2 small glasses of house white for 7, two large glasses for 8 or the bottle for 10. Once again I was told I couldn't pay by card, yet the person I was with they didn't have any problems letting him pay by card- even though we had the same bank card- maybe this was to do with the fact that he was wearing an expensive rolex watch.
In short this pub is one to avoid unless you act or are dressed up as a snob as the staff will judge you before they take your money which seems quite ironic seeing as their staff come across as pretty thick.
They get a 1 from my missus as she enjoyed the food. From me they don't deserve anything.

Much improved in the last couple of years - probably my first choice near Hampton Ct these days.
Nothing special for beer, but a nice place to come for a casual dinner.
Due to the makeover of a few years ago I didn't think I would warm to here but whilst its lost a bit of the character it does now do some good beer and food. The feel to the place is a little clinical admittedly but the staff were prompt and polite.
Visited on a very quiet Monday evening but was met with a nice welcome, prompt, friendly service and two pints of good quality Guinness.
We decided to eat here and we were both very happy with our burger and chips. Mine was the best tasting pub burger I have had in a very long time, cooked well a good meaty flavour, well cooked bacon and just the right amount of cheese.
The refurbishment was the worst thing that ever happened to this pub, it looks pretty now but its style over substance, over-priced, empty most of the week and no more kronenbourg!
Well kept Speckled Hen and Abbott cask ales, smart, polite staff, very clean and smart interior since major refurb a year or so ago. The current Manageress is excellent, and deals firmly with troublemakers, unlike previous staff! The garden bar is well lit and heated, ideal for smokers. Beer a bit pricey but far better than the smelly, dirty Albion Pub over the road.
Another pub that further hammers home the feel that Greene King (the company) couldn't put atmosphere into a pub if you paid it. A poor pint of Abbot, a tough steak, Sky Sports and House music in the toilets do not make a 'pub atmosphere' and this "pub" has basically lost its soul trying to cater to the stream of tourists from across the river in Hampton Court and what it thinks is the 'young' crowd it feels it has to attract which dumbs down what could be a nice, airy, bright public house - that's what they used to be called, right? Avoid at all costs!!
This pub now has lost its atmosphere was good before some staff quite nice theres lady dont think shes manger but walks around as she is very rude she should not work in pub as not sociable person, they have deals on offer but very rarely show these shame hope picks up for world cup
Quite liked it here. Not your average pub more of a bar really but the beer was ok and the service was good. Only moan was the heaters in the garden didnt all work.
OK in a modern cool kind of way. Not really very publike but no objections. In Hampton Court's 'street of a hundred pubs', well actually there are two or three but it has the busy feel of somewhere with much more throughput. It's the evening economy, is what it is.
Really didn't like it in here... Was enjoying a pint (which was to be fair ok) when a customer on the next table complained to the manager about something or another. I couldn't belive how badly she handled quite possibly the most stuck up... Well I will leave it there
What a change ,light, airy, clean.Friendly staff.enjoyed a very nice Grolosh and very reasonalby priced.Good for the tourists, the oldPrince was a character pub, plenty of Imperial Russian Stout on bottle, wonderful stuff Well wrth a visit.
Annie-Grace was fantastic last Friday! We had a great night - good atmosphere. Keep it up!
I like it here. Much better than before the refit. I don't eat here so cannot really comment, but plenty of beers to choose from and the wine is ok. Good to see live music is coming up and Annie-grace is coming up on Friday this week and she seems to have a good local reputation. The pub is clean and tidy and has a pretty good atmosphere. I like it.
I have recently moved into the area and ended up in the Prince of Wales for an evening. I found the pub to be clean, the staff very friendly and attentive. Stayed for food which was lovely. All in all a very good atmosphere and great evening out definatly will be back for another night out.
Went to Hampton Court yesterday haven't been for some time found the refurbished Prince of Wales for lunch, the staff were friendly, the food was excellent and the surroundings really nice. If you are in the area well worth a visit we were told by the couple on the next table they do a great Sunday Lunch
Clean pub with good facilities and service when I visited at lunchtime yesterday (29th December). Unfortunately the beer I had (Abbot) wasn't at its best (clear but an odd taste) and the food (lasagne and Welsh rarebit)was expensive for the quality and quantity received.
Sorry to say first experience will be the last one. Popped in for lunch and ordered the Paella. Big mistake eating this microwaved rubbish. I spent all night swapping ends on the loo and 3 days later Im slowly getting back on track. There are some great places to get good food in Hampton Court... This unfortunately isn't one of them.

Went to this pub last week for lunch. Had been there once before, prior to the refurbishment, and it was pretty dark and dingey and run down back then - but at least it had some character! Food was, unfortunately, awful. I had fish and chips, partner had beef and ale pie. Both were very disappointing. Pie looked like it had come straight from the microwave (it took about 7 minutes from ordering to receiving, so I am fairly sure that's what happened). The fish wasn't tasteless - sadly, because it really didn't taste good at all. And the chips were soggy. For the money (around 8 a meal) really not good. The bar staff told us $600,000 had been spent doing up the Prince of Wales. It's a shame they didn't spend some that on a decent chef.
If you are in the area, I suggest you go elsewhere.
Went in here the other night and what a total let down. Poor service was an understatement! Never again.
Was told the Cardinal Wolsey instead as I heard it had been revamped too. Glad I made the decision as the Cardinal was rocking. Served instantly, the beer was great and the new owners are really nice.
Top music venue as well. Plus it has a new projection screen for Sky Sports. So at last, somewhere to watch the footie at last in the area!
very poor service, new manageress obviously does not care . as was reflected by the rest of the staff.no real ale available , food was microwaved. over all a bad experience avoid at all costs
hmmmm, funny place. looks good but is lacking an atmosphere. I was sitting outside with the fella and suddenly the tables and chairs were taken out from under us at 10:30pm...I have no problem with this, but a friendly warning from the staff would have been nice!
Seemed to be full of drunk men in suits?!?! But I love the toilets, very good.
Must say the most amusing highlight was when my fella had to actually reach behind the pump to get his Guninness....the bar server had walked off and left it.... And yes it was a full and ready to drink pint!
Not sure if I'll be going back...
Just had a refurb and looks brilliant inside. Food was very good and a cracking selection of drinks.
After refurbishment its like drinking in a doctors waiting room. When I called in this evening all 3 real ales were off, only fizz was available. The bar is too small and there's nowhere to stand. Not a pub if you are on your own. Go over th4e road to the Albion instead.
This pub has been completely refurbished, a vast improvement. It's a gastro pub now, just what Hampton Court and this pub needed as it was very run down before.

Nice pub. Good size bar area. Plenty of TV screens to watch your favourite footy team..! Car park at rear. Walking distance from Hampton Court Bridge. Off the main drag, so only locals know about it! Average age in the pub = 29yrs. So i felt a bit old...! But it was pleasant, and the Carlsberg was probably the best lager I'd ever tasted in the world...!!! (If you've never been in a 'Bluebeckers'...checkit out nearby, they do great steaks & burgers)!! TJ (Trying earnestly to educate the world...!) !
I like the Prince, the people are varied, the food is delicious & reasonably priced, good range of drinks and the managers are friendly. What more do you need when you visit a pub? Only thing I would say is the toilets could do with updating and maybe making two toilets in the girls instead of three because it is really hard to get in and out of the cubicles and that's coming from a small woman!
Disagree with the last person regarding going over the road to the Alion it has gone down hill since new manager took over staff useless, this pub is much better than Albion, although Bell is up and coming now since been taken over.
anonymous - 9 Oct 2007 17:21 |
Sorry to disagree beeronaut, not a locals bar anymore, too many foul mouthed low-life in there at times. Go across the road to the Albion or up the road to the Bell or Poynze.
Biker - 11 Feb 2007 06:13 |
Down-to-earth locals' pub overshadowed by the Albion nearly opposite. Serving three Greene King beers, the Prince of Wales is also dominated by three (at least) large television screens. It may not have been the worst in the area but the area has lost a lot of pubs recently, one or two of which were from this very street.
Had an excellent pint of Greene King in here, it's an impressive Victorian building, and the interior is likeably separated into several different drinking areas...
... but there were FIVE different TV screens blasting out football! This totally alienates people who (a) want a quiet drink and (b) don't like football. If you want to watch football, go to a football match, don't spoil a good pub. For this reason, I won't hurry back
popped for a couple of pints and they had music on, a blues/hendrix type band called Grape? Pub seemed ok to me, food looked decent, beer was good as was the music. It's not like the Grey Horse/Bull Head tpye music venue but decent enough. Will probably return

service is shit, food is bad, barstaff are'nt friendly.they dont even talk to each other much. landlord takes the piss out of everyone..
avoid.
Average pub, not the best service, although the barmaid was quick enough to serve her mates. Thought about eating here, but then thought better of it. Saying that however, as a pub, the atmosphere wasn't bad, and the choice of drinks good - personally I'd walk over to the other side of the road and sup in the Albion.
good in it's time, but seems alls gone to shite, i miss the old days when john and tracy ran the place
Lovely staff, the young woman who seemed to be in charge provided great friendly service. Beer was properly looked after (Green King products). Nice locals. I liked the food well enough - decent sausage and mash.
An average pub. Excellent and speedy service. Food dreadful. Won't be eating here again.
Often I come down here for a quick after-work pint and end up staying way too long.. The atmosphere is relaxed - friendly locals propping up the bar, digital jukebox which is generally used properly, great staff and a fairly mixed clientele.. It genuinely is one thing that i will miss about the area when i move in a few months time..

Great Pub, now sells 3 Real Ales (IPA,Hen and HSB). The food is good and reasonable especially the sandwiches and prompt service. The Broadband Internet jukebox is great albeit pricey (1 a track if its downloaded) but its great to have the choice. The music can be loud in the bar( not the eating area) but if you want a quiet drink go across the road to the Albion.
Er, just logged on and saw my comment about this pub was wrong. I should have said "it would have been a bit intimidating if any of the punters had been aged UNDER 60 but they weren't. Sorry.
robin - 7 Oct 2004 10:18 |
This is a truely odd place. When I dropped in no-one was sitting anywhere but at the bar, no-one wasn't smoking, , no-one wasn't waering too much gold and no-one wasn't dressed up in their "best" clothes. It would have been a bit intimidating I suppose if any of the punters had been aged over 60 but they weren't. The music was very loud and the aircon was freezing cold. On balance, one to avoid I think.

Fantastic management, fantastic staff and great locals! A great night out especially when they have events on! Well worth a visit! Great food served till late aswell... What more can you ask for?

Great pub, great atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and managers very accomadating. Food is awesome and I fully recommend to everyone.
Ben - 27 Jul 2004 19:39 |
There's a sign above the door saying 'The warmest of welcomes awaits', or words to that effect. Pity they didn't tell that to the Stella'd-up psychos by the bar. Had a nice enough garden at the back, but when I went out to check it out, it was full of baseball capped Stella boys, smoking cheap, nasty hash. I didn't hang around...
ElDickster - 15 Jun 2004 21:31 |
Builders' paradise. If you love hearing lots of loud drunk swearing you're in for a treat. Funny, since it bills itself as a 'family pub'...
