Good pub with good quiz nights - some for charity. The beers are nicely looked after. The landlord is a very friendly guy who goes out of his way to see that you're ok. The rest of the staff are alright, but need to look around them a bit more and see if anyone needs serving instead of talking amongst themselves. The young lad behind the bar (Aaron, I think his name was) is an absolute disgrace to the hospitality industry and needs to learn a hell of a lot about customer service. Useless - get rid! Shame, as he marred what was a very nice night out at the Tuesday quiz.

Wish I had read the previous comments and avoided the lamb shank. Obviously the plonk it on school of food preparation. The Apple Crumble dessert was barely cooked and horrible. Award winning you cannot be serious!

The last and busiest of Bedford pubs we tried yesterday. It has quite a large car park, that was completely full. Seemingly, most people were there for a Sunday evening quiz, which certainly started off quite difficult - what year did Pete Sampras first win the Wimbledon title? Food looked quite ordinary. Beers were Wells Eagle IPA & Bombardier & an unimaginative Courage Best (brewed in Bedford don't you know) as a guest. The interior is large and bright. It clearly appeals to a wide range of society, from students to 30-50 somethings.

We have been to the White Horse twice, the first time we had lamb shank. It was dreadfull! Pre-cooked and frozen portions served with peas and potatoes in almost half an inch of gravy.
A year later we tried them again and had the special, fish and chips. Again, cheap frozen fillets on the small size and possibly pre-cooked frozen tastless but chunky chips. Would I go again ? No.

I really rate this pub. Friendly landlord & staff who seem to do loads for charity. Some of the best beer in Bedford! No guest ale on last time I was here but that's a small thing really.

It may be a bit too modern inside for some, but there are plenty of olde-worlde pubs around with so-so beer. Give me a good pint at the White Horse anytime.

Bland decor, a bit like drinking in an airport bar. Beer is usually reasonably looked after with at least one guest ale on. As others have said, not the best pub in town, but by no means the worst either.

Lack of real pub charm about it but not a bad pub. Beer was of a decent standard but the place suffers from wooden floor and fake beam syndrome.

Not, despite the self aggrandising nature of its own press, the best pub in Bedford, but not the worst either. Homogenised modern pub decor, with a large open lounge and bar and sizeable garden area.

Decent selection of the usual ales from the Charles Wells brewery plus, on our visit, some guests left over from a recent beer festival. It's neat, tidy and the staff are friendly enough but on my visit the pub seemed to be slightly lacking in atmosphere -perhaps the presence of several, highly inebriated individuals contributed to that.

Didn't try the food so can't comment on that, but looks to be standard pub grub at reasonable prices.

It's a bit out of the way from the town centre and I personally won't be in a hurry to rush back there.

Imposing roadhouse just off Goldington Road. Ostensibly a Charles Wells pub, it stocks a changing guest ale. Open plan, although split by a central servery, it has been extensively modernised with decent, smart furnishings. As you might expect, its big on food and features a choice of reasonably priced everyday food and the chips are extremely chunky! In spite of its distance from town, it is extremely popular; that should tell you something.

Agree that landlord has made effort to modernise the pubs appeal without turning it into an eaterie. Pleasant, but not the best Bombardier ive had and couldnt be more local.

The landlords make a real effort here, and they keep a number of Charles Wells snd Youngs beers in excellent condition. I have not found a better pub in Bedford yet.

Happened to be in the area this weekend, popped in for a couple of pints late in the evening, and really enjoyed it.
Beer was good, is a Wells Brewery pub, with Bombadier, eagle and another hand pulled on, so pleasant choice. In terms of decor, was modern and fairly nice. Plenty of seating options from tall stools, deep leather sofas and regular seated tables.

Sunday night quiz was on, and although we arrived half way through, landlord (quizmaster) was friendly and chatty from behind bar. Place was packed, and finding a seat was a bit tough, but to be expected and even wanted on that sort of night.
All-in-all, very pleasant and would happily visit again and recommend.

Went back to the pub today, it's as good as it's been before, this place is really showing it's potential as one of the best pubs in Bedford Town. Had a nice lunchtime meal here today, the landlords will be celebrating there 1st anniversary in charge of this pub soon, they have done a superb job with this pub.
Few other things this place offers, sunday roast and it has a big TV. Most of the major credit cards are accepted.

Nice place considering it's near a town centre, staff are friendly.

This is a real gem of a pub. Lovely outside seating area, food is very good including a weekly curry night, staff were attentive and welcoming, really pleasantly decorated inside (refurbished approx 2 yrs ago), not noisy so can relax and have decent conversation over a drink, the atmosphere is great, most highly reccommended.
