The Vestry was my local for a few years. The staff have always been really friendly. I have hired out the upstairs bar for a 30th birthday and several quiz nights. Good ales on tap and nice outside in the sumer. keep up the good work.

Doom Bar, Bombardier and Youngs Ordinary (2.85) which tastes ok. As noted below no real atmosphere, Smith and Jones pub so a sort of Wetherspoons Lite. Ok for a swift pint.

A large pub at the bottom of Church Street. It is one big room with the bar roughly central. Reasonably comfortable and airy lounge but not much ambience. A fair range of beers which included Youngs Bitter, Charles Wells Bombardier and Sharps Doombar when I was there. There is also an upstairs area which doesn't appear to be used.

Certainly nothing special here, but does the job given a limited selection in Epsom town centre. Beer is fine and not too badly priced, including ales. The tone has certainly improved since the got rid of the football and the chavs, although that has even further limited the options for pub sport watching in Epsom. Staff are generally very friendly. Decent area out the back, although not exactly picturesque, backing onto a car park.

Food is pretty standard pub fare, but good selection, well priced and always arrives quickly, so can't moan on that front.

What a difference, I decided to go in as a few friends had been ranting on about how much it had improved and they were right, it is lovely in there now the atmosphere was great, no football, no chavs, and no builder types.
The music they were playing was pleasant the lights had been dimmed they had candles in the windows and there was even a log fire in there beautiful beer garden. The prices were ok for the area but there cider range is abit pricey, food menus looked good for a chain pub.
staff are friendly and very welcoming.
I will be recommending it to any one who wants a night out in epsom

The Vestry has about as much atmosphere as the Moon.

The best way to describe it is really to compare it with the Assembly Rooms- both biggish chain pubs, both a bit lacking in atmosphere, however the prices here are a lot more than the Assembly Rooms, the food is inferior and the decor is vile, dark and miserable. Just you wait, as the nights draw in they'll start putting all the punters on suicide watch.

OH NO! Despite a good load of visits with my custom I was not allowed to stay last time because I had tracksuit bottoms on despite being with the rest of my family. Despite being allowed in previously when wearing this attire the new faceless management are giving a zero tolerance to ANY sportswear (except Chelsea shirts OF COURSE!) being worn which would probably include those who used to pop in from the Gym over the road. My decent 7 rating of before has now gone down to 0 as any sort of this rubbish going on is worth it...and recent reports suggest that this has turned into a proper dive. Nowhere else in Epsom has this sort of nonsense going on, even the upmarket Youngs or Fullers pub, which are far more welcoming anyway.

this bar has really imporved a lot recently. The food here is really excellent quality for the price - youd pay about the same or a touch more for food at weatherspoons but this is 100times better quality and much much bigger portions! Best value for money food in Epsom i would say. Drinks too are very reasonable, cannot complain about the price. Pub is a bit dead now at the weekends compared to a few years ago, not the most 'happening' place to be anymore, but i would definitely recommend you go there for lunch one day.

This pub is good. It certainly seems to be a whole lot better than when the earlier comments were posted!

Decent grub, OK beer and none too expensive with it. Went a couple of weeks ago on a foul evening and this pub provided a fine retreat from the monsoons outside. Sport shown on TVs.

Another drinking establishment that operates a headwear apartheid policy.

Subsequent enquiries have revealed the bouncers may follow smokers into the dilapidated garden just to make sure that your brand of tobacco meets their approval.

It has been suggested, however, that the main purpose of the bouncers is to prevent patrons from leaving the pub.

Went here for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Looked good from the outside so had a gander. Nice layout, very friendly staff, keep their ales well, free wi-fi. Good food and like a reward or loyalty card scheme. On this visit I could not find anything wrong although it was a sunday afternoon. Would like to see what it is like on a Friday or Saturday night...

WONDERFUL

Anythings better than a Litten Tree apart from maybe a sudden amputation or an eight car pile-up.
This has to be an improvement.

The Vestry is smart and clean and whilst nothing particularly individual. The lager is cold, the Guinness is decent and the service was friednly and efficient.

Nicely done up now, very welcome feel. Nice cold pints and a good looking food menu..
the_original_rawnsleys - 18 Oct 2007 08:48
I hadn't been to the Vestry since it was the Litten Tree but went last month for lunch and it was nice. The beer garden is well laid out with tables in the sun for those who want it and in the shade for those who don't. The interior is a bit dingy but the food is lovely, especially the tempura prawn and sweet chilli wrap!

Been there a few times now and always found the Dj's great, the service great, the doorstaff helpfull and the eye candy fantastic.
I'm very happy to promote this place as the best place in epsom. Big shout out to charlotte an da barstaff, Your hard work is paying off !
Party_Goer - 19 Apr 2006 12:46
Been going here for a few Fridays now and it has improved a hell of a lot.
Jack_Carter - 15 Jan 2006 16:48
Ive been going there with my friends for the last few saturdays now and it has really improved. Its now great fun, the music is excellent and you can also chill out for a while without having to shout at each other. Went there for lunch as well during the week, the service was good, food was also very good. Much improved since the early part of this year and easily becoming the best place to go in epsom on a sat nite!
cls01 - 5 Nov 2005 09:06
apparently this gaff has new manager and must admit it has improved the place tons. tunes are pretty good for a pub, vibe is much better and its a guaranteed good laugh at the weekends. foods pretty good too, and late night menu is a real winner. bar totti not bad either!
polgara - 4 Nov 2005 18:31
The pub is now under new mangement and the changes are great so far! Great for lunches and weekend football.
rhubarb - 23 Oct 2005 18:40
hadnt been there for a while but been the last 2 saturday nights and its been pretty good. They've got a new dj who plays a really good mix of music (no cheesey crap all nite), you can either sit n have a chat without having to shout or get up and dance! (some lights would be good tho!!). Its also got a much nicer vibe in there as well now. id say its worth a visit if you haven't been for a while
spursfan71 - 21 Oct 2005 10:31
Don't worry my name might suggest I'm a Burberry bastard but I prefer 70's rock so no worries.

For me the Vestry can be summed up in 3 easy words: Crowded Shite Hole. Its full of Chavs especially on a friday night. Its expensive and smokey. You can't hear a bloody word because the music is turned up to 140 decibels. Really the worst of Epsoms not particularly finest.
Kingvagabond - 15 Jun 2005 19:02
i love this place.. never a dull moment. Guaranteed fight every week. and my mates work behind the bar so i get served quickly
tomfoy86 - 5 Jun 2005 17:24
This place is excellent: it attracts all the filthy chavsters away from the pubs I like to drink in!
Jack_Carter - 29 Mar 2005 12:58
Picture the scene - Friday lunchtime - a packed pub - two bar staff on serving their mates first.

I waited out of iterest to see how long it would take me to get served. After 20 minutes I gave up.

I always hated this pub when it was the Litten Tree and I still hate it. Don't go there unless you have all afternoon to wait to be served.
anonymous - 10 Jan 2005 12:38
2 4 1 after 9pm, AFTER 9pm, ok this is got to be a good thing surely
andrewjames2004 - 30 Dec 2004 18:49
If you don't mind waiting half an hour to get served a crap pint of beer, then I can't recommend this place enough. I went there a few times to play pool when it was "The Litten Tree", now the tables gone and so am I!
Paul Tongue - 29 Oct 2004 15:50
No real ale. Slow service. Mediocre food. Beer is better down the road and half the price in "Assembly Rooms" Weatherspoons pub.
Colin Wills - 29 Oct 2004 15:43
can't loose the stigma from when it was the Litten Tree - the worst place on earth. Its a shame cause its nicely decorated and the food is quite good and drinks are good prices. Staff are a little slow and seem to have had some sort of personality by-pass. On Fridays nights you still get the old litten tree scum in there though - the ones who can get into chicagos and that is really saying something!!!!
anonymous - 15 Oct 2004 13:44
If they keep on playing fecking music until 1am on a Thursday night I am personally going to firebomb the place. Horrific bar, not worthy of even pissing on if on fire....which it will be soon with any luck!
G - 7 Oct 2004 13:45
It may have re-opened but its still the same dump with 15 year olds
Robacidgreen - 27 Jan 2004 11:45
now called the vestary or some such

must be a slip of the tounge/pen

bestary seems more appropriate.
jon-paul - 22 Oct 2003 12:48
thank f**K for that. the bar staff were the rudest, moodiest tossers I have ever have the misfortune to be served by. Hope they have all found other careers!
Brown Waterfall - 12 Jul 2003 12:52
It's closed, thank christ.
anonymous - 30 Jun 2003 20:00
its a bit ruff and i feel like a granny with all the young youths that are in there
mrs Greensmith - 26 Mar 2003 10:41
Horrible pub. Pony music blaring out of the sounds system and crap beer. Would win the prize for smokiest pub of the year.
Angus - 24 Mar 2003 13:45
