Sussexfox's post is accurate.
Too expensive, for a basic boozer.
Pubs, the other side of the Clock, are much better - and cheaper.

I went out with a couple of the barmaids, so I get served straight away. Its a good laugh on a saturday night.

Had two lunchtime drinks in Epsom today. Both were double Smirnoff (50ml), with a dash of coke.
In the Assembly Rooms, the price was £3.90. In the Rifleman - it was £6.90.
A rip off venue - which I won't be visiting again.

Further to my previous review, three months ago, I've been in several times since and what a great selection of local counties beer... Kissingate, Tillingbourne, Surrey Hills, Triple F, Sambrooks, London Beer Factory...
Also, now the weather's warming up, a very pleasant beer garden.

Well said Bob. The two Canadian soldiers who were arrested here for drunkenness in 1919 were taken to Epsom police station, which was besieged by hundreds of their compatriots in an effort to free them. In the ensuing melee Station Sergeant Thomas Green was killed. He's buried in Ashley Road Cemetery in Epsom. Funnily enough both his daughters emigrated to Canada and married local men.

great little pub beers in good order allways 3 or 4 beers on tap plus a cider great home made food a must if in epsom.

In 5 years of living in Epsom, I never thought to try this place, seeing the Greene King sign. Sometime last year the local free rag mentioned that they'd had a refit and would be selling local guest beers, but I just never got round to trying it until today...
What a pleasant surprise! Two good local breweries (By the Horns and Twickenham) a new brewery from Devon (gah, name escapes me now) and decent cider in the shape of Weston's Rosie's Pig. And the only hint of GK was the unused (ha!) Speckled Hen pump. Didn't try any food, but the ambience was friendly and pleasant. Being picky, I thought the two local ales didn't taste quite as good as I'd expect, but this is a huge step in the right direction... I'll be visiting again.

Never been in the Rifleman before as it always looked rather downbeat. I noticed the other day that it had been smartened up so went for lunch with missus.
Tasteful refurb, not overdone. Friendly and helpful landlord. Good choice of real ale, well kept and served.
Food was burgers and wraps, lots of choice of fillings etc Very tasty and well presented.
Nice garden and patio back.
Al lround a good pub, particularly for a town pub.

Exactly the sort of dive that tradervic would frequent, a pint of Greene King, ghastly!

Excellent and tasteful refurb completed; the pub is now much bigger and has the best beer garden in the area - all new, with a BBQ. Food is now served and the new governor is a pleasant/friendly chap. Beer is well kept and this place will give other Epsom pubs a big run for their money. Not before time....

REOPENED
Has been totally refurbished by Greene King, and new tenant installed.
Cannot comment on what it is like as I haven't visited yet.

CLOSED. Lunchtime today - and I am a regular. No notice. Sad.

Hmm, popped in for a quick one a couple of Sundays ago. Decor was basic, (nothing wrong with that) and was greeted by a couple dogs (canines) in the bar that appeared to represent the entertainment. Anyway, had an IPA but the quality was very, very poor, (think the correct term is "off"). As we were literally only staying for one, I drank about half of it and left the rest. If you want a decent pint, can I suggest the Vestry over the road Shame really, as I liked the sound of some of the earlier reviews.
|
I did tolerate having the Chelsea memorabilia behind the bar!
All in all a no nonsence boozer which has 3 Tvs switched onto 3 different sports channels at the same time (what to watch first?) and beer at decent prices.
|
visited this pub on boxing day and was made feel so welcome by a young barman(robbie)who told me the history of this small ,warm pub.ale was well priced and when asked for food was served the nicest sandwich -on the house!such service is very heartening and my wife and i had a very nice 2 hours there. tvs had different programs on so everyones taste was satisfied.will return when in area again.

I love this pub myself. It has got the feel of a real old school boozer, where the same faces sit in the same seats day in day out - that's you too Richard Baxter!!
Harry is indeed a leg end. He keeps the pub running smoothly, keeps the pipes clean and the beer fresh, and always helps out Lanes, by employing some former Lanes totty behind the bar - good work!!
If you are expecting a gastro pub, or sanitised bar, then epsom has plenty of other places you'll be welcome. However, if you want a good pint, in honest, friendly company, then the Rifleman (or just simply 'Harry's' is your place!!)
|
Great little boozer in Epsom with a friendly crowd always in there.. Harry the landlord is a top bloke as well, despaie being a Chelsea fan... They have a big screen and Sky in there now as well....
|
Grimville, Arizona.
|
If you try to ignore the Chelsea memorabilia behind the bar you'll find an unspoilt, quiet, if very small, local boozer.
Unpretentious, unthreatening, not unpleasant. But not much to it.
Not bad. Not brilliant either.
|
A pub for MASSIVE Blues fans. As you go in there is a shrine behind the bar of all your current Chelsea favs, such as Gavin Peacock, Mark Stein and Dmitri Kharine. Why is the horseracing still on?
|
I enjoyed the crack in here, a few funny stories and a nice pint!

Great pub for funny men and gambloholics. Sky Sports available, but refuse to show any sport but Horseracing. Collections of cigarette cards are displayed in the toilets.
