Great drinking pub.. well run with a lovely sun trap front garden.. Green king IPA and wainwrights plus another I can't remember..

The original TV series of Dads Army was filmed in and around Thetford. They cast and crew made this their watering hole of choice. At the end of each of the nine series , huge drinking sessions took place here. On one occasion Ian Lavender ( Private Pike ) got so drunk he nutted Arnold Ridley ( Private Godfrey ) and fell asleep standing at the bar. Stupid bo

Cosy little Greene King pub.
4 hand pumps but two unused.
IPA has its own special pump and costs �2.79 a pint.
I tried the Abbott @ �3.25 and very well kept it was too.

Pleasant pub a short stroll from the town centre. Good beer. No food, but they will order take aways for you to eat at the pub.

This pleasant old cottage style pub is a short walk from the town centre and close to the nearby castle hill and medieval earthworks. The carpeted main bar is nothing fancy or over the top but has a nice cosy glow to it with sash windows, drape curtains, old pictures and fireplace with woodburner. The beers are good quality (enough to make the Good Beer Guide) although the selection rather mundane � 5 hand pumps � 2 Green King IPA, 2 Abbott and 1 redundant. There is a separate pool area and a couple of fruit machines, a beer garden and seating out the front. The pub is nothing exceptional but it is far more enticing and friendlier looking than some of the other pubs in the town centre and worth the stroll for a pint before or after exploring the castle area.

The lager was flat, had to add a dash of lemonade to try & liven it up a bit. Gunniess was a bit better.
The Pub smelt a bit 'stale' when we entered, luckily it was a nice day and was able to sit outside.

As a visitor from America, and a pilot, I was told my money was no good in this pub (across from Castle Hill). In order to pay my fair share, I challenged the patrons to a game of darts. Being unwilling to lose, these friendly people managed to best me and I was able to buy a round! What a great place!
