Returned to the hungry horse after two years to find it had changed considerably in a bad way.
Here are out reasons for the above comment:-
- Unclean tables - Stickly menus - unlean cutlery - Constance presence of unsupervised children running and screaming throughout our meal. - Individual TV screens showing football at the end of every table, this might appeal to some but we found this distracting. - Ladies toilets comprised three cubicles two of which were out of order, soap dispenser had fallen off the wall, no hot water, no toilet paper in the only working cubicle. - All of the above could have been forgiven if the food was good quality and good value. We ordered the two roast dinners and what we were given were two plates with a spoonful of sproats and peas, one and half roast tats, a rubbery piece of microwaved chicken breast and a yorkshire. Presented swimming in a vat of greasy gravy. It worse roast meal I have ever had.
Suffice to say we skipped desert and more drinks and left hungry as a horse.

I remember this as a good place to eat (Hungry Horse) - and the bar billiards matches staged by the Redhill League. None there now of course, and off the beaten track, so I haven't been back to re-visit.

Had a fun evening in here on a Friday when the Kareoke was occuring, but thats mainly because it wasn't ultra packed and the group that we was in had time to enjoy it and let loose. The lady who does the kareoke made it quite fun Dunno if the pub is special on any other levels, I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it normally, but if passing...

i ate microwave burgers there last week it was all dry with no taste i never going to eat there again
|
Went in here to watch the football and that's probably what this place is best served as. Tends to attract Mr and Mrs Chav and their expanding brood in the eating side as well as elements of the local Travelling Community. No incentive whatsoever to stay beyond the final whistle. Probably a pub that would appeal if you were about 17 which half of the occupants in the bar side seemed to be. Prices good though.

decided to go for lunch today the woodman was closed so had make do with the midday well never again the food was crap cold chips and in desparate need to change fryers chips covered in black spots from where the fryers are so dirty and they tasted horrible so i would advice any one to go else where

Recently been refurbished and new management installed.
Not that you can tell. OK to sit outside for an hour in the summer but that's about all.

Was he watching your beergutt, Beergutt ? And pondering ?
|
This pub is not too bad. The few times I have been in there I have always noticed 1 very portley gentleman sitting in the corner pondering

This pub does what it says on the packet! Good value food, welcoming family atmosphere, more-than-adequate facilities for sports lovers. Kid's playroom has been refurb'd and is very popular. Plenty of seating - whether eating or not! The problems with the local travellers has died down in the last year with the arrival of the new manager. Door staff are a regular feature now from Friday to Sunday. A young yet relaxed atmosphere and a generally nice place to socialise.

Great place to go to for a lovely meal, cheap beer and plenty of screens to watch sport on.
|
My first choice for a good, fast and value priced lunch. Not much of a selection for drinks, but always have Green King on offer

More tails of woe Im affraid, been to this pub several times over the christmas period and every time the scum off the earth pikeys have been in there. They smoke in the bit your not allowed too, the kids go in the bar they are not allowed into when on earth is someone going to do something about them before it all ends in tears
|
Staff always pleasant and the food is honest and good value. I go occasionally to this pub to watch football with my Dad or 11 year old son in the family bar and it's fine - always very accommodating to families, but at the same time not over-run with noisy blighters. The main bar area is not my cup of tea, however, a bit loud. There are certainly worse pubs in the area...

Apparently there was an incident there last Thursday or Friday night. Massive attendance by emergency vehicles I gather: Police & Ambulance, and - so I've been told by Jon, who has assured me a million times he never, ever, exaggerates, - Fire Engines, Mounatin Rescue, Coastguard and Cave Rescue too!!!! Alright - something went down - but N O T World War Three.

Much more involvement in sport with the new management and still a great place for the family.

A great family pub, which is what Hungry Horse is all about and those who think different should maybe go elsewhere. Great staff with a good management team behind them.

Agree with the comments about the travelling community, cheap and cheerful for food, good choice of beers, friendly staff.

BEWARE: The local semi permanent travellers are frequenting this pub on regular occasions, Dont need to add any further do I!

A cheap and cheerful pub on the border of Coulsdon / Banstead. Does food which is palatable and good for kids. Kids play area is a bit sparse, good for flat screen tvs and sports, only downside is it attracts it's fair share of local chavs.
|
Good food and at a low price, friendly bar staff, would recommend to others, and very good and lively on mondays and fridays for karaoke

The best karoke in Surrey they advertise, Karoke on Mondays was (not so much now)tolerable, karoke on Fridays is unbearable.

Fair choice of beers, but does need more staff as they are always serving food, so if you are just drinking in there you will die of thirst.

Large pub that have a typical range of Hungry Horse chain food, need say no more. Two bars, one generally for the food order counter and one "the other side". Went to the one the other side, waited at least ten minutes to get served on every occasion we went to the bar although it wasn't busy. The ash trays were full to over flowing and this has been the general rule of thumb on every occasion the pub was visited to watch football.

Loads of flat screen TV's to watch the sport on, The food tends to have mood swings one week awful another week not to bad, The veg is always the same, over cooked as a rule. Dont go there with the dog as they no longer allow them in. Kids must be off the premises by 9oC. even if outside.
|
I did post a comment pointing out that it's a Hungry Horse so you get pretty much what you'd expect from this particularly hopeless pub chain - but it got deleted - maybe I wasn't subtle enough.....
|
good food good prices very friendly would recommend

Nice pub, big screen when its football on, serves a range of common drinks etc. Nice beer patio for the summer with quite a few seats. Restaurant next door for when you want some food. Lots of parking! Nice out of the way pub!
