Well kept beer, but a safe predictable line up and overpriced. Dark Star Hophead is a least 50p a pint more expensive than it is down the road at the Evening Star. That said, the service is excellent (very friendly and attentive) and the sausage and mash is very good.

Another fairly boring 'Drink in Brighton' pub I'm afraid. Well kept beer, but a safe predictable line up and overpriced. Dark Star Hophead is a least 50p a pint more expensive than it is down the road at the Evening Star. That said, the service is excellent (very friendly and attentive) and the sausage and mash is very good: but then it is only sausage and mash, so it should be. Not worth the trek uphill from the station.

Totally agree with review below. Great range of beers, mainly local which is brilliant, music is always excellent, friendly bar staff and the the sausage and mash is out of this world. Go there.

Best pub in Brighton by a long chalk. Stop wasting your time and go there now. Best music you'll ever hear, lovely staff, great beer. What more do you want Guys ?

First Gold and Tanglefoot. Sausage and mash was fun but took time to arrive. Good basic pub.

Not much to add to previous reviews except to say don't be put off by the dingy looking exterior of the pub. We arrived early Saturday lunchtime and had the place to ourselves for a while and the pub has a warmer feel inside. It was a great place to hang out and talk - although the music got a bit too loud later on.

The beer is good (if you like Badger) and food - as my friend put it "Probably the best bangers and mash you'll ever have".

I'm a big fan. The sausage and mash is the best I've come across in Brighton: perhaps 7-8 different sausages both meat and veggie, as many different mash selections and nearly as many gravy options. Even pud. Small and cosy, friendly staff, and the back room is great for the slightly more intermit evenings. Smoking can disrupt the pleasurable atmosphere, but that will be a thing of the past nationwide from summer 2007 anyway. Love the selection of board games. The badger ale is definitely a selected taste, made from hand picked organic nettles. Definitely recommend a visit, week nights are slightly less busy and equally enjoyable.

I mean that butchers in Richardson Road. The Good one.

Sausage and mash is very good value, it might be a pound more than microwaved gonads elsewhere, but these are the real deal from Richardson's. The only Zel pub worth visiting. Not too keen on Badger beers but they're always perfectly kept. Gorgeous landlady.

Great freindly pub. Great staff. Sausage and mash is good enough (if a little pricey). Gets very noisey

Not a bad little boozer this one. It was nice to find a pub which did not sell the usual 1664 or Stella. It has a very relaxed cosy atmos a not a chav or footie wally in sight. However its best avoided on a friday/Saturday evening as it is full of the "oh look at me, I read the Guardian" types. It also gets very smokey. You have been warned. 7 for bangers and mash seems abit steep....haho.

Less than 10 mins from the station, you can get some very tasty sausage and mash here. And there are several vegan and vegetarian choices too. Warm, friendly, usually good music. perfect for winter blues. I like. And they do wheat crunchies (the crisps) with your lager.

Not to be confused with its namesake in Spring Street, this pub has (usually) intelligent customers, some nice beers and good food. A useful stopping-off point en route to the Prestonville, or on the way back to the station.
