Enjoyed tapas here one lunchtime with my son. Only go there now for a drink as the Other Half only eats English food.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and truly authentic food here. The staff were amazing at catering for our needs especially those of my young children who were given colouring pencils and pads to keep them entertained as we all sat down to a delicious set of tapas dishes. For my main I order cod which was highly morish and bursting with flavour, I usually find cod from the fish and chip shop highly greasy and completely bland in flavour; however this cod was lightly battered and just tasted exquisit. Luckily they served chips which the kids were delighted about as they love them, but who doesn't? We ordered some drinks before the meal, which all came out quickly and were actually very reasonably priced. My children had the cuckfield mess for dessert which was delicious and came with raspberries and strawberries. The pub itself was clean and modern with fresh flowers which were lovely. After the meal the kids were offered some sweets out of a sweetie jar which was a nice personal touch. All in all a lovely experience will definately return due to the lovely service and very yummy food!

We popped in to the Rose & Crown with our young son during the week. The interior is smart and comfortable and not 'Spanish' themed. We had the most delicious tapas and great service. The deep fried mushrooms with garlic mayo, meatballs in almond sauce and chicken croquettes were top notch and worth a mention. The food was all obviously high quality and really authentic - much better than the food we experienced on a recent trip to Mallorca! Our son also loved his huge plate of calamari, the crayons and paper and sweetie jar that was offered to him too!
We can highly recommend a trip to this great pub.

Visted this pub on a Saturday lunchtime with my wife. Apparently the pub has been refurbished and the interior looked good. There is also an outside terraced area. The draught beer (Harvey's) was excellent and the tapas food very good and very tasty. I would definitely recommend this pub. Staff are excellent and the ownerchef prepares all the Spanish influenced food himself. In true tapas style food is displayed on the bar for you to choose but there is also an extensive menu for those who want a more traditional main course

My husband and I visited today to enjoy a Sunday lunch at what we remember as a lovely country pub. It turns out the place was refurbished and a new Spanish menu introduced last Wednesday. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement. The wine list is ok and we enjoyed a lovely bottle of Sancere for 28....this was served warm and we needed to ask for a ice bucket. However the menu consisted of Tapas of a very basic level , none of which we fancied - it was potatoes and beans and omelette rather than chorizo, mushrooms and seafood as I would have expected. The main courses were equally unexciting and everything came with chips , with no alternative. My husband ordered chicken in rosemary and garlic (with chips!!) and I ordered cod loin with chilli and garlic (with chips!!) - when our order arrived the chicken was three simples strips of chicken with rosemary scattered over it sitting on a pile of chips - did I mention this turned up at the same time as our starter !!! I received cod in batter (not what I had ordered) pieces of what I believe was pollack (although not proved) in batter on chips!! So having stated to the the friendly and unsuspecting bar staff that we'd like our main course separately from our starter......overall the food as well cooked but I feel completely cheated ....our meal came to 63 and seriously we had chicken and chips and fish and chips!!! ....the bar staff told us the owners had recently moved from Spain to open this pub.....I feel like I have walked into a cafe in the Costa del Sol ...and paid twice the price....x

Returned today - What a fantastic Sunday Roast - the large oval plate was 3/4 full of meat - choice of Beef, Pork or Turkey - or a mix of all 3 (which I had!!), Roast Tatties, Yorkshire Pud, Stuffing Ball and Red Cabbage sauteed in Red Wine was what arrived on the main plate, then a seperate platter of peas, carrots, brocolli, cauliflower cheese and mashes swede, carrot and potato !! Well, just got home (can hardly move now !!) - no time (or room!!) for a Pudding, but the homemade choice was again so tempting ! Beers now stocked are Harveys and Dark Star Hophead - good to have real local ales !! Well worth a visit - and worth phoning to reserve a table for busy times - I got their new number which is 01444 454046 - as the one at the top of this page seems to be something else !!

This is now a freehouse and what a pleasant change !! Now stocking Harveys, Courage Directors, Courage Best, Amstel, Kronenbourg 1664, Fosters, Strongbow and Guinness - gives a good choice. Food is superb, and the staffing top notch. Had a super meal with brilliant service, and the homemade desserts are to die for !! No longer a sporty pub, quiet background music, no pool table, no fruit machines, no tele and no dogs !! What a blissful traditional pub this now is - an absolute must - do get along there !

Visited this pub today on a completely random lunch time drop in with my family on a day trip.
We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent service, well kept real ales and delicious food.
Being a rainy and cold January saturday it was pretty quiet, and our food was prepared and served in around 20 minutes. A lovely pub lunch, highly recommended.

Since the management change and spruce up I have visited this pub regularly. The decor is vastly improved and the new larger dining room is regularly busy. The owners and bar staff are very welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxing. Importantly the beer on tap is in excellent condition, Hall and Woodhouses' Badger beers. The wine selection is good and very quaff able. The food is of excellent quality, the menu is pretty traditional English pub fayre and there's always a range of specials on. I can guarantee you will not leave hungry!

Excellent midweek lunch here - food menu vastly improved since a year ago, and of excellent quality. Well-kept Badger on tap - again the cellaring has improved.

We had a very enjoyable midweek lunch at this pub. The food is locally resourced and freshly cooked, and it was all delicious. We had one of the specials for the day a Steak and Kidney pie - the meat was tender and tasty, and it was served with a truly winy wine gravy. It was lovely! The portions were generous, and though after eating it we really did not need any more, we decided to sample the treacle pudding. This can so often be a bit stodgy but no, not the ones made here! They were daintily served (and it is not easy to make a sponge pudding look dainty!), full of syrup and very more-ish. They obviously have a very good chef. The staff were all polite and very helpful. We shall definitely return to this pub and will recommend it to our friends.

This pub has been under new managament since September i believe. It is now family run and offers a wide variety of excellent food (something it was in dire need of!) The decor has been updated and looked clean and fresh when we visited, a nice touch was the removal of the TVs and the pool table for a nicely set out restaurant complete with log fires! The food was wonderful, plenty of it and delicious, i would thoroughly recommend the homemade pies. Overall we enjoyed our evening meal very much and found the staff friendly and helpful- its about time this pretty pub was done some justice- well worth a visit!
