Thank goodness that a good couple have rescued the pub. Excellent range of Beers with frequent changes, well cared for by competent bar staff. Would recommend without reservation.

A very good pub had a couple of very nice meals and the beer was very good would definetly visit again when in the area

Thsi pub is going from strength to strength. There are a few changes to the original details of a few years ago. There is bar billiards table rather than a poole table and there is no disabled toilet. Being a Free House, there is a constantly changing range of quality real ales and ciders with a local theme. The decor is fresh and clean having been refubished by the new owners in Feb. 2011. We have eaten there several times and recommended friends who have all said how good the food is. The menu is wide ranging and has some unusual items which are individual to the Establishment. Live entertainment is now starting to be introduced with Open Mike nights. We now travel 5 miles at weekends to go there we are so impressed with the beer and food.

good beer, nice people..generally a good boozer.with the chequers on self distruct this place will be very busy soon.

After yet another extended closure the pub has again reopened, this time as a free house ( I hear thunderous applause!!!!!!! ) Tribute, Crop Circle and Doombar on at the moment. Early days but looking good!
|
Opened again earlier in the year, but with no great fanfare - in fact I went several months without realising they were trading again. It's a bit unclear what's going on, but it seems that the locals have taken over the running of the place.

Can confirm that it has closed down for good thus continuing Hall & Woodhouses' unhappy record of closing down pubs when receiving a suitable offer from developers.
The Rose & Crown now joins a list of H&W pubs closed down in recent years that includes The Greenridge, The Struans, The Fryers Arms, The Kings Arms, The Albion and going back a bit further, The Whincroft.

Pub was closed when I went by at the weekend. Rumours that the pub is to be put up for sale. Shame as it seemed to have reinvented itself over the last year or two. Might help the struggling Chequers get some of its lost custom back though.

Clean, Good food, Frendly welcome helpful staff, good beer. What more can you ask for. Thank you for a nice meal.

New Management. Very clean smoke free pub. Very good food at very reasonable prices. Worth a visit.

I visited this pub in March '07 and the new tenants are great - they have really turned the pub around.
Great steak and real ale and good company.

The Rose & Crown is now under new management and is being run by a local couple determined to make the pub a success and nice place to eat and drink for both locals and visitors to Lytchett Matravers.
The pub has been completely refurbished - inside and out with a tasteful warm decoration. A new traditional menu is being served 7 days a week at good affordable prices.
With the new smoking ban on the arisen, Jenny & Fred have decided to make it a non smoking pub with a shelter outside for smokers.
The pool table has been removed and the new layout is friendly, warm and welcoming to everyone.

I agree - I used to use this pub when camping in the area and the food use to be great. I went there a couple of months ago and found it under new (bad) management. Place was dirty, service was slow and berudging and I didn't even bother staying long enough to order food
