Last time I was here the power was off, so we had a drink by candlelight. The landlady was very cross with the electricity company, but very pleasant to everyone else. On normal days it is less dramatic, but worth a stop.

Hi all visited last night as am looking around at the village pubs near reigate, traditional no frills country pub, good vibe, good bear, loved it my kind of pub fast becoming a rarity, will come back cheers.

Fantastic pub. Amazing food! Highly recommend!

A very friendly local pub with good food and good beer. A very warm welcome by the staff and the locals alike. Have been here about 4 times now and like it very much and will probably make it our pub of choice for the moment. Can't fault it.
|
Quite simply , an unpretentious village local that has kept a high standard of rustic charm year after year. The varied menu is home cooked by talented chefs and in 10 years of visits the beer has always been good , albeit tied for choice by the restrictive policies of the brewers. A great destination on a dry day with loads of outdoor space and a warm welcome .

Popped in for a pint and some lunch with the good lady wife on a Monday lunuch time.
Pub was reasonbly quite as you would expect for a village setting. Weather was beautiful so enjoyed sitting outside in the great location in the middle of March!
Food and drink both very good. Have to give extra marks for the very friendly and helpful landlady who even went the extra mile to do table service so we didn't have to come inside from our sun worshipping.
Keep up the good work.

Took my dad here last sunday - just a pint and a sandwich. I like it here though. The atmosphere is good as is the food, the beer's well kept, nice landlord, and the public bar is lively. Only criticism is that in the rear dining room the tables and chairs are really packed in and it can feel a bit cramped. Sometimes bring my 11 year old son here too and share a moules/ frites which is huge and great value. Nice in the summer because of the location. keep it up!

Very nice old country pub set on a village green. One 'proper' pub-type bar and a couple of quite large restauranty type rooms. Tables outside as well. Badger beers on (Tanglefoot, Pickled partridge & badger ordinary) and K&B Sussex ale. Only tried the partridge which was fine. Food all good with a real 'home made' feel about. I like this place a lot.

Another visit yesterday. Lovely outside drinking area watching the Sun set. Good bar staff, and real ale keenly priced. Must try the food next time. Keep it up.

A real country pub with a well kept cellar and a manager with a delightfully dry wit. The Lemony Cricket was excellent and although I tried a few other beers it was the Cricket that was the clear favourite. It could have been improved by faster servcice, I think the manager had no help and perhaps wasn't expecting the volume of trade we brought with us. It was a great evening in the company of the Spring Grove Morris Men and their friends Ewell St Mary's, playing some great tunes and singing songs. Great beer to drink and morris dancing to watch - bliss.

Have used this pub on quite a few occasions. Nice village location with plenty of tables outside.
It serves good food with generous portions, however it is also that rare thing in the countryside a drinker friendly pub as well.
Usually has four real ales and a nice friendly atmosphere.

Visited today. 4 draught Ales. Tried 2 which tasted fine. Food was good with generous portions. Good marks to the staff who were working flat out on a busy lunchtime session.

A pleasant country pub situated on a crossroads adjacent to the village green. I was rather pleased to see the set up with two bars, one set aside as a dining room with the other more pubby and traditional. So many pubs in locations such as this regard food as their raison d'etre, making drinkers unwelcome; not so here. The bar is carpeted, bar on the back wall with traditional bench and table seating to the side and front walls, the other wall sports a dartboard. Walls are wainscotted. A couple of fruit machines are thoughtfully located in the lobby so are less intrusive. The other room, set for dining has character also with black timber beams. Outside seating to the frontage facing the green, another area to the side has a large gazebo. A former King & Barnes house, now serving Hall & Woodhouse beers, usual range plus a seasonal Lemony Cricket, a citrus flavoured hoppy summer ale. B&B advertised. A nice spot on a summer afternoon, I imagine equally attractive with the fire roaring on a winter's day.

Fine pint of Badger Hopping Hare looking over the green in some rare early April sunshine. Was intrigued by the local making off with a crate of Manns Brown Ale.

A Friendly matronly-efficient allowed us to switch our booked table to outside. Probably not my best decision to be surrounded by the smokers but the October 08 day was warm. Large group under the marquee probably caused our food delay, which was worth the wait and good sized. Would go back again. Nice choice of ales.

Just visited the Plough for Sunday lunch. Food very good, large portions, extensive specials board. Badger Fursty Ferret & K&B Sussex both well kept. Good atmosphere with walkers and locals dropping in for a pint as well as diners. Tried the Mars Bar cheesecake as recommended by previous reviewer - thanks for the tip! Overall, well worth a visit.

Was not very impressed with this public house. I was ignored completely when i arrived at the bar which was not busy at all-when eventually seen too the bar tender was extremely unfriendly. To top it all off the waiter was very blunt and when i asked for french dressing i felt like an nuisance. I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans-how easy can it get and it was the worse jacket i have ever had-i can't belive they served it-the skin was black and covered in spores and the actual potato closest to the skin was green. Unfortunately i was on a time limit and just needed a quick bite to eat so had no time to complain-no one checked on us and i left before my plate was cleared. Will not be rushing back i am afraid! However it is in a lovely location and COULD be a fabulous pub!

I have always liked this pub. My last visit was a week ago. I love the flowery, hoppy beer they sell. It tastes of the English countryside. Can't comment on the food, haven't eaten here for years. But don't recall it being bad.
|
I cannot believe the previous posts! Just came back from The Plough after a very enjoyable meal (for 8). The setting was peaceful, the food was excellent (and lots of it!) and the service was friendly and efficient.
The pub was busy but not crowded and we had our choice of tables - indoors, outdoors under cover or outdoors in the open. I certainly plan to go back there.
PS: Make sure to leave some room for the Mars Bar cheesecake. And don't even think about the calories - just enjoy!

First time visit - and last. Awful food and really slow service. Only handful of diners whole evening yet took 45 mins to serve first course and a further 30 mins for second course. The meal was inedible, with starters of rubbery calamari and ciabatti served with neat vinegar dip, main course salmon tariyaki tasting of burnt sugar and the lamb and pork dry and tough. Also, the decor's in dire need of a revamp. The waiter was very friendly though!
|
Terrible food. So bad I registered with the site simply to warn others. Went with friends, brought out wrong meal for my other half, and when pointed out to waitress she came back with exactly the same dish but a different sauce! Friends' roast dinners were rubbery, my pie was tasty but stone cold. Topped off with a miserly saucer of overcooked veg which was apparently for all 4 of us and gravy that was so salty as to be literally painful to eat. Pointed out the saltiness of the gravy to the staff, got no apology, only a lame agreement that she'd tried it earlier and thought exactly the same! Went to Tesco for dessert. The pleasant beer gets it its one and only point.
|
Have been there twice - excellent food if you are prepared to wait a little. Beer excellent and friendly staff. Local produce used too!
|
This pub is located in a setting on the green and has warm atmosphere, friendly patrons, pleasant wait staff, and a varied menu. The layout lends itself to comfortable conversations. Patrons are friendly and engaging. Had an enjoyable time at the pub and is worth a detour. I'll be back either alone or with friends.
|
A nice old pub really, in a pleasant location. Usually well-conditioned Hall & Woodhouse beers, and whilst the food can be best described as variable, the Plough should not be written off on that basis alone.
|
Yes I like the public bar, it has a nice atmosphere. The lounge bar has been turned into a restaurant and always seems packed and squashed. I was disappointed in the food. As a previous reviewer said 'the food is not too ponced up', well this is true. The burger, I think, was out of a frozen packet, the chips seem re-heated, the salad seemed a bit old. The bar staff seemed a bit gruff, the garden furniture needs a serious re-vamp but the pub is worth a visit 'cos it is in a nice location!!

Live music no longer a feature at this pub - please update.
|
Attractive old pub on the village green. Proper unpretentious public bar, other side more of a restaurant, food not too ponced up considering this is Surrey. Ex King and Barnes pub. Worth a detour.
