More of a restaurant than a pub. Food is OK but typical pub chain grub. Went there for dinner with my 13 year old grandson and was told that he would have to leave by 9.00 o'clock - so we did not even have enough time to finish our meal - definitely will not be returning.

just put the beer up again the other day , now they have the decoraters working outside , someone has to pay for it i suppose

Bottled beer about 3.00 Beer fridge is an oven. Best go to Morrisons, find some bottled beer and hide it under the frozen food items, then read the autotrader in the magazine isle, then revisit the frozen food isle to dig up the chilled beer. Once past checkout go to car, open beers and turn radio on. Do not tune to Forest Fm its the same as Cheese FM in the Monmouth. Go to 1197mw Absolute Radio (former Virgin station).

Cheesie Xmas music loud and the beer fridge is warm as an oven

Sadly, it's just not the same old Monmouth. It's not packed in the way it always used to be - could be the smoking ban, there was always a few of those in the front corner - could be the 'new' landlord and his wife (who are very friendly but not so child friendly I suspect) but the food service is a bit on the slow side and the food quality is down slightly.
Same range of beers/wines menu, just ambience is now lacking somewhat.

Good well kept beer, with a very reasonably priced menu.

For beer drinkers may not be the greatest of pubs but if you like food and wine and very friendly staff, it's great.
Of the four pubs in Verwood (that I know of) this is the one I use regularly.
Would like to see Ringwood beers but I can always have a Guiness if I don't want wine.
Has car-park to rear and patios front and rear, with patio heaters. Thet'll supply water & bowls for dogs.
Remember to turn left when exiting car-park.
Will go up in ratings when smoking banned next year.

Beer fridge works. Bottled beer is cold. Now it needs to be filled with fine beer. Please can we have some German wheat beer (Schneider/Erdinger/Franzis Kaner/Kolsch ) and some strange Belgium beer (Chimay red/Liefmans Frambozen/Timmerman peach/Belle Vue Kriek/Westmalle dubbel/leffe dark/) etc and Herold Black Lager from Czech rep. And can we change the American Budwieser to the Real Czech Budva Budwieser with the creamy buttery taste.

Probably the best pub in the area. Friendly staff. Good Managers
But Although food is very 'BRAKE BROS' style, Bland English Food. Would prefer good German Food
Beer fridge is not a fridge is an oven.

You would hope the staff would move beer forward and put the new bottles at the back but in most pubs they put the new bottles in the front just because they are lazy.
If you want cold becks ask the staff to get the bottle at the back which has probaly been there for 2 years or more

I like Becks, I pay between 2.75 -3.10 for it in Pubs Monmouth Ash like 90% of Pubs in England serve Becks from a warmish fridge.
Manager Tip: Clean the filters of the fridge with a hover, and defrost the fridge once a week. This is why Becks always taste best from your own kitchen fridge folks.

Our family went to this pub this evening 25/06/2005 for an 18th birthday and had a great time . Food good, hot and quickly served. Friendly and helpful staff 9 out of 10. Would go again soon.

Went there for a meal. Had to wait 45 minutes for the food to arrive and it was ok but not worth the wait. It has a poor selection of beer and unless you like Badgers you will be disappointed. Also has a very small smoking area in a corner of the bar. Wont be going there again!!
|
OK as pubs go if you have a penchant for Badger beers.
Standard Badger menu with well presented food. Pithy quotes painted on the wall such as 'the more he told of his honesty, the faster we counted the spoons'.
A cd of 'Round the Horne' is entertainingly and permanently playing in the Gents. Not too bad on the whole.
