A nice traditional building with a cosy atmosphere. The Exmoor Gold, a reliable local standard, was on while I was there. What made the trip really worthwhile was the Tuesday night quiz, one of the best of its kind I have played anywhere.

visited in April while staying in Combe Martin and was suitably impressed to return for seconds, unusual looking place that looks like it's had a few add ons over the years, i can't actually remember what i was drinking but it must have been okay, i think they may serve some of the st Austell range

Lovely looking place from the outside, very unique building indeed, although once inside there is only really a small bar area for the real pub goers.
Beer garden is very nice too with a stream at the bottom, my 3 pints of Tribute went down a treat.
Service was poor here though and the way in which you had to order your food put us off a bit so we didn't bother.
6/10 Not a bad place but could have done better.

visted in Sep. 11 while on holiday did`nt like the place or staff there are better places than this in the area

Our local pub whilst we were staying in Combe Martin. We ate here, drank here and quizzed here several times and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Landlord, Landlady and staff were all very friendly and efficient as were the regulars. The garden, very kid friendly, was well kept and the food excellent value and very good quality. Yes, they did run out of some meals sometimes but with the unexpected hot weather I'm not surprised. Wish it was my local.

Apparently this pub was built in hommage to a pack of cards; 4 floors, 13 windows, 52 doors and at least 2 jokers propping up the bar. Proper Job was lovely, easily the best pint I had in Combe Martin. There's a big beer garden at the back which is useful, especially since the inside looks like Tracey Emin's been at it.

Proper Job is a St. Austell beer and very good ! Whilst I do not want to enter a row North Devon pubs are never erm quite pristine.

Really nice garden, great beer (Proper Job - don't know brewer). Inside dirty an unfriendly. Food OK.

I also visited this pub in May 2008 whilst on holiday with my family, our food was excellant and prepared by a London trained chef, who alledgedly worked in Petrus ,a restaurant owned by Gordon Ramsey, mind you we did have to wait for approx 35 mins, but it was freshly cooked and not the usual boil-in-the-bag that is usually served in most pubs, the staff were friendly and helpful, the beer was exceptional,(the best pint of Directors that I have had for a long time) the garden was very well laid out with pretty good (but dated) facilities for our children. definately would recommend this pub

My family and I had the misfortune to visit this place in May 2008. Our food took over an hour to arrive, and was very average when it did. The kids play area was dangerously in disrepair and backed onto an open stream. The worst thing was the response when we asked where our food was, to be told by the lone barmaid/manager that they cook everything from fresh and thats why it took so long. None of our meals were complicated and I could've cooked a roast dinner in the time they had. I think only having 2 members of staff on might have had more to do with it. I dread to think what it would be like if it got busy! A disgrace, stay well away.

if you like to breath the smoke from the smoking area which forms part of the enterence then this is your pub

Ok if in the garden with kids. Play stuff not unsafe in my view but would prefer river to be fenced off. Beer good. Didn't try the food. Only really one small bar inside, rest like a restaurant.

This pub was awful. There is a huge gazebo right in the way of the front door for the unfriendly locals to smoke in. The food was dreadful and not worth the one hour wait, the childrens area was unsafe and the main bar smelt of urine. An absolutely horrible experience.

Oh I loved this pub, visited it regularly when on holiday, the food was great, the location very cool, the pub so big with lots of nooks and crannies to eat. If ever i go back to Combe martin i'll def go there again.

unique pub built after winning at cards, well worth a visit. Large good beer garden with a museum as well. Our grandchildren voted their food and the garden 9/10. We have visited more than once, say no more

There was a fantastic barman here once called Chris where has he gone

A truly unique pub, it has over 50 windows of different shapes and sizes and a pig living in the garden. Was built by a local eccentric.
