Paid a return visit to the Mere last Saturday. This time I found it open and extremely busy. Alsager was hosting some kind of music festival and bands were playing live in the pub. The place was packed and it was a struggle to get served in the small bar area. There were plenty of staff. But it was difficult to physically get to the bar. As a Joule's pub, it had their Blonde & Slumbering Monk, alongside Beer Tonic No. 37, presumably a seasonal beer. In addition, there was Full-Bodied Ruby Bear from Beartown, which I plumped for. At least I've found it open this time. But it's not a patch on the Lodge just up the street.

Joules pub that was closed on my Sunday evening visit. I later read somewhere that it closes at 6pm on a Sunday evening. But their own website and others are out of date. No beerintheevening on this occasion. So a 0/10 for now. But I will try to hit lucky again.

This pub again like one of the Positive reviews has now had new Owners and they are lovely and they have been there for the last 6 months and I must say they have changed The Mere Inn a lot and it is a lovely place to go for a nice welcome and a lovely Pint! Nice locals who pop in everyday and have a chat.
It's got a lovely atmosphere and a warm welcome to it and I would recommend people to go!
They had charaoke saturday night which was a blast and a good DJ with some really good songs and I spent my sunday in there with a few friends watching the sports.

Yes this is a very nice little boozer which I visited last Saturday lunch time Bright and nice and warm inside with four hand pumps seving two Joules ales. 2 for the Pale Ale and 2 for the Slumbering Monk. I tried them both and very nice they were two both selling for 2.50 a pint. Came back later and saw the first half of the Liverpool v Stoke game on. They have a number of screens scatered aroubnd the place. Very good service too.

Agreed - used to go every week (for the past 5 years.) Takeover has completely ruined what used to be a nice local - horrible place.

Refurbished in the last 12 months. beer still OK. Ambience ruined. Unfriendly. Shame.

Small, very very smoky. Roll on smoke free pubs - I want to die of alcohol poisoning not cancer from the smoke of others!! Good but not as good as the hype. One of the barmaids is very good at her job - an example to all. Great collection of model planes on the ceiling - put your anorack on and name them all if you can!
