A terrific, traditional gem of a pub. I always look forward to a visit here, when i'm working locally in the area. Small, but very cosy, with good local gravity ales which are always worth a try.
Rubbish selection of ales.
A customer saying "Two pints when your ready please" would certainly PISS ME OFF!! I fear its a case of "TWO PINTS WHEN I CAN GET TO YA".....Wait your turn!!!
Bit disappointed with this place. Beer and service a bit mediocre. Arrived too late for food. Fairly nice looking place though.
It's still open and as good as ever. Palmers and Otter both excellent today and nobody's saying anything about possible sale. Let's hope that's history!
If it is sold it will be gutted and madeover and basically totally ruined....don't do it Terry!
Ought to add I visited a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
My thought on seeing the advert was, if sold at the asking price it wouldn't remain as the simple beer house it is at present.

can't see any mention of it on Fleurets??
Excellent little pub. Often cycle to it, never disappointed by the beer or the atmosphere. Wish I lived closer!
Seems to be up for sale on Fleurets at an eye watering 1.1 million.

Can't understand A Porters comments, I have never witnessed Terry (landlord) being disdainful to anyone, regular or visitor. We have always found him to be most welcoming. Black beers are on at the Plough from time to time in the summer but tend to be out in force in the winter months i would suggest another visit and enjoy the roaring log fires. Thanks from Customs & Exiles & Mayflower for an excellent evenings and we hope to visit soon Penny and Dave

this pub could be something special - characterful building, attractive countryside, exciting forest drive to find it, 2 barrels on gravity dispense - and yet... the landlord's apparent disdain for non-regulars, no beers above 4.2%, no local ales, no dark ales... ultimately neither a friendly place nor especially interesting to drinkers. a disappointment.
How a pub should be.
Excellent range of beers, well kept in barrels.
Not for foodies though, as unusually they are not focused on that.
Strange, old fashioned but really like it.
Visited at lunchtime midweek. What a wonderful place this is. There are normally two pulled beers and two guest beers on gravity. Today's were in good condition as usual. Food is basic- baguettes which are excellent value. Atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. What more could one want?
The dark side of my personality wants to give this pub a damning review, just so nobody ever visits it. But I can't fight the truth. This is a very good pub. It's hard to pin down the many reasons why, but it is. And if you doubt this, feel free not to visit; more real ale for me!
A real throw back to a bygone era flagstone floor, church pew seats, open fires small and dark. well worth a visit if you are looking for a"how pubs used to be" place Ringwood fortyniner was fine as was the barmaid! and you can still see the crack in the ceiling where my mates uncle & auntie"s bed fell through the ceiling into the bar when they used to run this place i kid you not!
an unspoiled gem in an area dominated by big private houses that used to be good rural pubs plus yer 3.50 pint / non-dining drinkers just about tolerated-type places you find too many of in the comfy home counties.
this place has ale from the barrel, bar billiards and a good feel. lovely woodland walking on doorstep too.
no evening buses out here, buses on main road (mile and half or so) or bramley station couple of miles off.
Gets better with each visit, a real community country pub. A few ales and a couple of games of bar billiards...lovely. Perhaps the only downside is that one or two of the locals seem a bit sniffy if they don't recognise you as a regular.
It really doesn't get any better than this.
Don't go in and try this years excellent Porter, there will be less for me!
one of the traditional drinking pub's left. Terry the landlord is always welcoming, the beer is still served from a stillage. no t.v. or juke box making a noise. just the sound of the clock ticking what a wonderful way to relax..
One of the only uspoiled, genuine pubs in North Hampshire. Terry is a gracious host and keeps an excellent pint. always something different to try. Winter time, a pint of Ringwood Porter and a blazing log fire - bliss!
Great beer, I have not been in for about 9 years but everything is still the same. Good beer, good banter and still a friendly atmosphere.
Very English low-beamed country pub, open log fires with a good atmosphere, friendly staff and clientele.
Decent selection of beer (Ringwood Boondongle; Rebellion Blonde; Branscombe Branoc) in good nick, served from stillage. Not much in the way of food, which doesnt bother me as I go to a pub to drink.
Features darts, bar billiards and no TV. Super. Would like to pay a return visit.
One of the best pubs for miles. Locals freindly but you do have to elbow them out of the way to get to the bar. Landlord Terry is a perfect host and a genius when it comes to keeping and serving some of the country's finest beers. I spent a blisfull half hour in the pub last Friday lunchtime, on my own with just the sound of the ticking clock and the crackle of the large open fire, what a way to relax.
An extremely fine pub with an interesting range of gravity-dispensed ales. Last night Appleford's (based near Wallingford, Oxon) Brightwell Gold was on unreasonably good form. The building itself is also rather fine, a wonderfully odorous place rich in beams, tiles and fine old fire places. Good service too and a wonderful background hum from - wait for it - conversation.
Returned to this pub last week, took some friends from London thinking they would like the look of it, we all absolutely loved it. Landlord I assume was Terry couldnt have been more friendly, smiles all round from the locals and the Thatchers cider - fantastic. If you want a real pub this is it, if you want anything else, go to B&Q and build one..... NB Not a foodie pub though nice looking baguettes were available..
I love this pub. Full of local banter and Terry the landlord is just wonderful. Always a genuine hello and good bye AND a thank you. The beer is excellent, as is the atmoshere. Can get very smokey - but not for long! Always busy without feeling overcrowded. Best pub and best beer in the area, by a mile. No food, no piped music, just a pub. Perfect.
Excellent traditional pub, with no loud music, no fruit machines, but does have a great landlord, fantastic real ale from the barrel, Ringwoods from the pump, one of the few remaining bar billiards tables around, real fires and great atmosphere. Best pub in North Hampshire in my book.
Yes, a really great pub, with some good beer. Spoilt by a large group coming in with children, and the children (about 12 or 13 years old) smoking!
A lovely pub with good beer and a warm and friendly welcome price not to high.
What a gem. A real traditional pub, great beers from the barrel or handpump. Regularly serves locally brewed beers - West Berks Brewery. Ringwood Best on handpump.
Expect everybody to stop and stare on your first visit. Next time you'll be on first name terms.
Bar billiards (1 good 20 minutes). Fires in winter, garden in summer.
Unusual clock face in corner,
Lovely 'real' pub. Food was good as long as you like baguettes. Beer excellent. Atmosphere priceless.
Most unspoilt pub left in the area (N.B. - pub not restaurant). Full of character and characters. Enthusiastic darts team.
Interesting older type pub, "local" pub but friendly enough. I'll bet tourists love it.
Absolutely filthy dirty and run down needs a good spring clean & a lick of paint. Food non-existant unless you want a baguette ! (even in the evening) very clicky clientele and an aloof landlord - beer was off when I went.
One of the few traditional 'drinking' pubs still left - full of character, open log fires, oak beamed ceilings, real ales, bar billiards and darts. Friendly staff and superb hospitality.
Super place, as is anywhere that Terry works.
