Fairly large, multi-roomed Everards pub on one of the main roads into Leicester city centre. It seemed fairly popular with diners and families and had a number of strange features to view, including a tower of wine bottles and some kind of character from Star Wars or something similar! Beers on were Hydes Fine & Dandy, Ironbridge 48 Special West Coast IPA, Titanic Ale Over, Everards Tiger, Beacon, Original & Sunchaser plus Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon cider. A fairly good pub.

Summer is when this pub really comes into its own, with a huge and popular beer garden. Had the Everards range on, as well as the seasonal guest and Ushers Bishops Tipple. A good mix of people.

A decent everards pub, with normally an ok guest ale or two. Beer festivals are good fun. Quirky interior with plenty of stuff to look at! But the main draw is the MASSIVE garden (with a tardis. and barn owls- you read that correctly!) Great place to go on a sunny day and sit and drink some nice beer.

Popped down here for the recent "Beer Hunter" festival and had a very decent time of it, despite the slightly cool weather conditions meaning we spent most of the time inside and not out in the (HUGE) beer garden...
Beer selection was perhaps not the most adventurous for a festival, but the prices were reasonable and the condition was good.
All beers were dispensed from outside stillage, with the exception of festy special 'Old Hearse' (Brunswick), which was on draught from main bar.
Good selection of food was on offer, including burgers and hog roast plus regular pub menu.
As usual, service was very friendly and the session passed very pleasantly.
Also worth mentioning was the very good value of fest glasses and t-shirts - very good to see!
Will look forward to next years event...

Great recent beer festival and entertainment. Hog roast cobs for the hungry. No complaints re service, spot on again.

Have to give this place another mention as it sort of turned into our local at the end of the year. Great food, good beers (mainly everards with occasional guest) and generally well run.
|
Good beer, White Horse was the guest. Party of 4 all enjoyed the food. Just outside the centre but worth checking out. Plenty of buses pass.

An excellent example of a traditional pub, this delightful Everards house sits across the road from Victoria Park, some ten to fifteen minutes from the rail station on foot.
The pub is divided into distinct areas; a bar area with good seating provision, partially seperated games room with pool table, plus a dining area.
The decor and fittings in the bar areas are wonderful, with a remarkable assortment of unusual bits and pieces from times gone by - coupled with the quirky aspects referred to in previous comments, such as the coffin. The dining area is well presented and well lit, but the real draw here in summer is the beer garden. This is huge, with adequate provisions to keep kiddies entertained (including, of all things, barn owls in the courtyard!)
Popular with locals, students and families, the pub offers both a light bite menu and daily changing main meal options, plus an a la carte option. Traditional roasts are available on Sundays.
Beer wise, you'll find the usual Everards ales plus a guest (on our last visit a very tasty Wonder Wully from Burton Bridge) and the prices are reasonable. Westons Old Rosie is available for those partial to a cider.
An annual highlight here is the Bonfire Night / Halloween festivities - fireworks, all manner of horror-based shennanigans and hot roast pork cobs - a real must for families with children old enough to appreciate it.
All in all, a cracking pub - I just wish they had more handpumps and tried holding a beer festival...!

Did a very good bangers and mash. Nice ambiance, friendly locals, near to the centre and not too expensive. Also has a coffin for a table. I rate that.

I used to drink here years and years ago - has always been a good boozer, good atmosphere, good food, and a large beer garden. dont get that end of town as much these days - def worth a visit.

The longest walk away from the general direction of the crawl, but pleasant enough via the pedestrianised New Walk, rather than London Rd. An Everards house, Tiger, Beacon, Sunchaser, Original, also Old Rosie on handpump, a friendly welcome at the bar. Bright conservatory to left, dark wood bar, plenty of seating, banquettes in big bay windows at front, pool table, dartboard & plasma in separate room to rt which is beyond a smaller, interim bar. Check out the life-size Blues Brothers Jake & Elwood are reclining in the courtyard to rear, beyond this a large well tended lawn with picnic sets. Not sure about the table formed of a coffin opposite the bar quite out of keeping with the pub & slightly disconcerting.

I left the waking horror that is the Stoneycroft Hotel just off London Rd, desperately seeking sanctuary in a sympathetic hostelry. Happily, I didn't have to walk for long - about 4 minutes. The Old Horse is a large yet homely 'come-one-come-all' boozer with a good range of beers (including Everard's Sunchaser - in December?!) and a big menu. The food isn't as impressive as the beer, and one of our party had to send his inedible chicken back, but it's serviceable pub grub. (If you want haute cuisine, there are about 10,000 curry houses in Leicester vying for your custom.) A friendly, vibrant atmosphere, very good ales and no holds barred with the Christmas decorations - just the job to stave off the terrors of staying at a cross between Bates Motel and The Overlook (off of The Shining).

A lot of effort has gone into making this pub an attractive place for a pint or two or indeed whatever takes your fancy. It has the largest pot and jug collection that I have come across and all the beams are festooned with them. If you find this fascinating, then take a look outside. There is an extensive real beer garden and to reach it one has to pass through a small courtyard featuring two bizarre Blues Brother type model characters either side of a real beer engine complete with a Tiger badge on the handle but, sadly dispensing only a continual stream of water. Alongside there is a metal frog trio of musicians. Hanging baskets and tubs rings the whole area. Superb.

If it is Whippet that they use I quite like it! Personally a fan of Everards so thought the place was OK
|
Pleasent...really good for a quiet pint, food is ok too. Unfortunately half the beers are Everards (they own the place) which means they all taste of whippet or whatever they flavour beer with in the North. Good pub though.

Everards pub situated next to Victoria Park, the Old Horse is handy for any of the city's major outdoor events, the university & the De Montfort Hall theatre. Most striking feature is the huge rear beer garden, complete with seperate courtyard, pet owls & rabbits & expansive grassed garden with children's play area. Many idle summer afternoons can be whittled away here. Everards Tiger & Original are always immaculate with either Beacon or a seasonal special making up a third option. Inside, the decor is a little unusual but the owners always go all-out for Halloween & Christmas. The Old Horse Bonfire Night is something of spectacle. Stunt displays & costumes extrordinaire combined with a fireworks arsenal to make most local authorities envious. Darts, pool & large screen TV in back room. Kareoke Friday nights. Great pub.
