Made a special journey here as it appeared to be highly recommended, with a good website. Initial disappointment in being served an Everards Tiger which was clearly at the end of its life was further compounded by the two Steak Sandwiches that arrived, both served on stale bread, chewy, pretty bare and more butter in there than Dairy Crest produce in a week! At 7.50 odd a throw, you would like to think that the bread would at least be up to scratch. Disappointed.

Nice, friendly pub with a log burning stove (very important in the winter) and well-kept beer. Bonus marks for asking for some manners from a previous reviewer who was too ignorant to take a noisy child outside.

We often use this pub as a base for walking in the area. We've never had a bad meal or a bad pint, though for some reason the chef puts creme anglaise on virtually all deserts regardless of what they are. The staff are friendly and the service is great.

5 stars for this establishment 09/01/11. My partner and I took our 17 month old little girl for Sunday lunch. We were all made to feel welcome and looked after very well. Food was lovely, and smaller adult portions were served. My daughter loved the mixed carrot and swede mash.
With regards to children, this is NOT a wacky warehouse, there are no indoor playgrounds and no fish fingers and nuggets on the menu, if thats what you are looking for do no go here. However if you are looking for good food, great service in a peaceful environment I would definatley go here.

Last Sunday, (28th November), we went for a Sunday meal to this pub. We took our 2 children, one is 4 and the other is 15 months. It turned out to be a complete night mare! Our 15 month son, like any other child of that age was making a bit of a noise and screaming a little and after a while, one of the waitresses came through and said, "Can you keep the noise down"! She said it in a very rude way as though we had to turn the TV or radio down.....unfortunately children do not have a volume button. I was completely disgusted and promptly complained to the bar manager who just palmed me off...in a nutshell, we were paying customers and were made to feel like criminals just because some idiot probably made a comment to the staff there. As we were made to feel so uncomfortable, we even left without taking desert or coffee. It makes me sick when places say that they are child friendly and then they turn out to be completely intolerant. To conclude, we will not be going back!

Revisiit this pub. They have got it right. Food is even better than it was 10 years ago. John the chef is back and food is fabulous. Menu is short but locally sourced and well presented. Simon really looks after the beer and Angie and Pev are always fabulous. We Are now going regularly. Dogs are still not allowed in but perhaps Simon will relent in the bar even for the winter. These guys have really put the effort in here and deserve support.

We visited on July 31st and I'm pleased to say all was well with both the food and the drinks. The food was quite limited in choice and my wifes selection was unavailable. However, they made up for it by giving a generous discount on her second choice. Food was very good overall if a little pretentious and the beer was excellent. Rather noisy in the 3 eating rooms. A large party came in and started shouting behind us. They were soon ushered away into their own room by the organised staff. Very friendly bar staff - I told him he'd got a 9 - and here it is!

We had high expectations of this newly opened pub/restaurant. However the food was inedible, the service was very poor and the drinks were past their sell by date. Beware!!

Walked to the pub from Banbury with a dog only to find that dogs are not allowed on the premises. The outside seating was in the car park and shared with smokers. However, the food was good, the beer well kept and the staff friendly.

Visited for the first time since change of ownership this weekend. What a transformation! The food was superb, the staff friendly and attentive and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. We'll definitely be back!
|
The recent change in ownership has breathed new life into this potentialy perfect pub. Good beer, open fires, tasty food at reasonable prices and attentive staff. What more can you ask for?
Long may it last.

Under new ownership and doesn't it show. This George has been transformed. The food is top class, the staff are attentive and pub has an atmosphere to match. Would recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys good food and value for money.

Pretty awful. Food very bad and over priced. Vegetable pie was almost inedible. Needs a chef with imagination. But as the saying goes "Sting a million people once and you become a millionaire"
|
Beer was awful! Do they know that they shouldn't keep there fruit and veg in the cellar? A good indication that things aren't all they seem! Very keen on marketing themselves but they need something to market first!

An excellent pub, very friendly staff and the landlord is superb. Very good food and ales, a charming place to stay in a beautiful location. The loos are great now due to a recent extension so 10 out of 10.
|
Excellent village local, interesting interior with several panelled rooms leading off the bar area which has a well actually in the middle of the bar counter. Excellent range of ales, very good food at not too over the top prices.
|
Stopped on way home on off-chance. How refreshing to find a landlord who really cares that his customers are having a good time! Excellent food, cooked fresh and a good selection of ales.
|
Excellent friendly pub with very good, reasonably priced food and wines. Would give it 10 if the loos were better.
|
Friendly pub with good atmosphere and good service. Well kept real ales. Excellent food. Crowded at weekends.
