Recently re-opened under the stewardship of new owners Ray & Philipa Goold, as a pub,tea room and gallery. The decor is light and airy and decorated with the landlady's paintings. She also painted the new pub sign. Hours are Thursday to Sunday 11am to 3:30pm and 6pm to 10:30pm, closed Monday to Wednesday. Serving Shepherd Neame beers with Whitstable Bay and Spitfire Gold on hand pump. When I visited there was only tea and cakes offered in the way of food, but as the venture progresses the plan is to sell a wider range. The garden, in the rear, is currently a 'work in progress' , with recently constructed raised beds.

The King Rufus shut several months ago.... The nearby Village Bells also closed and is now a house.
The Anchor in Eling shut for a short period and is now open again & very nice too.

Visited in March (bit slow on updating my reviews!) - this is a nice traditional boozer. There were not many people in there this Sunday lunchtime. Friendly landlord, nice layout, I had a few pints of a Hydes of Manchester seasonal beer in good condition.
There is another pub directly opposite! 7/10.

this Is the best local pub gary who looks after the celler knows what hes up to and produces great beer with 3 geust ales this ones a must no juke boxes or fruit machines or pool tables its out of the way but get down there also great food with hell of a range
|
a good ale pub thought i have noticed the food is not as it once was, though its still better than some others in the local area
|
Went here for a Sunday Lunch just after Christmas. Although the Ale was as good as ever, the old adage ' familiarity breeds contempt ' springs to mind. Won't be returning anytime soon.
|
Friendly staff and pretty good food (Sunday Roast) the vegetarian nut roast was also rated highly by the 3 vegetarians in the group. There was (see other review) a smell of fried food / chip fat when we went in but it wasn't too bad.

Were recommended to go but why I have yet to fathom. The locals seemed a happy bunch as did the numerous dogs. Felt like interlopers as we inched our way to a table with the regulars most put out as they made way for us. The bar person was positively surly. A pleasant but uninspiring lunch. Can't remember how good the beer was. A pub for locals - nothing wrong with that and a good thing - but some don't have a pub within walking distance. Perhaps we chose a bad day?

lovely atmosphere and been there plenty of times after cricket and also with my GF. 4 Ales ALWAYS well kept and a varied, tasty Menu.Sunday Lunchtimes are very popular,so call to book.Recommend it to everybody!

Good range of beers and nice staff but unfortunately pub smells of chip fat,we spent time having a few drinks but left smelling very strange I dont think the chip fat has been changed in the fryer in a while. Shame really otherwise good pub.

Usually has 4 real ales. Always Ringwood (can't have everything) and 3 guest ales. Worth a visit. Welcoming atmosphere

This is a quaint little pub on the edge of the New Forest in quiet surroundings. It serves good ales (always at least 4 guest real ales),it also serves good food(with the home cooked touch),all served by very friendly staff, have been going there for years, well recommended.

possibly you may have been rude yourself mr or mrs ANON this is agreat local pub with great staff allways friendly GREAT BEER AND GREAT FOOD
|
The staff certainly didn't seem rude when I visited. For a small out of the way pub, there was a good selection of real ales too. Four different ones: Eden project bitter, Thwaites bomber, Ringwood bitter and one other (summer lightning?). Excellent quality beer, well worth a visit. Didn't try the food, but that looked excellent too.

The staff in this pub were so rude we left.

Not that easy to find unless you know the area. A traditional pub with scrummy food and its right opposite another boozer which we did not visit.
