Met a former cricket colleague who's lived on the island for 20 years for lunch. Four ales on including (as I noticed later!) Moorhouse Mild. Started off with an Okell's as I'd been enjoying it in my hotel (the Ascot) and then decided on my old faithful, mild and bitter. When a young chap at the bar heard me order it, he said "We don't do cocktails in here!" We had a laugh about it and it was very good! Decent pub food and we sat by the window looking out onto the Promenade. I'd imagine it gets busy at the height of summer but there are plenty of tables outside.

Has a nice location on the Promenade. Would most likely be nice during the summer. We settled on this place to eat and the food was fine, but average pub grub. I was getting a bit fed up with finding only Okells beers - just MPA and Bitter in this one. So I was forced to hit the bottles. Similar to the Terminus, it would do so much better with a more varied ale selection.

Only had time for one but this seemed a really good pub with loads of outside seating on the promenade and the beer we had was a welcome guest in Salopian Hop Twister.
|
Okells plus a couple of guests - nice boozer - worth a visit.

One of the better pubs on the long promenade at the north end, the Okells beer was pretty good. The promised guest beers didn't seem to materialise when the last pints were drawn off leaving Okells Bitter only for most of the week. Food was average but reasonably priced.
|
A large pub on the front with a good outdoor area for viewing the world.
Okells Bitter and Old Skipper plus a guest (Elgoods at the weekend) from 2.65. Food served most hours at reasonable prices. Pool table.

Good spot on the road between the 2 railways, nice beers and good atmosphere, went several times during Camra conference. One of 3/4 pubs on or just off the promenade.
|
One of the large establishments on the promenade with buses running past the door. Large room inside but we chose to sit outside as it was a lovely day. Had Okells Alt and Okells Red.
|
Selection of Okells beers well kept. Quite a foody pub and nice for a sunny day to eat outside, right on the front so you can watch the world go by. Largish pub with 2 bars. Nice looking pub architecture in one of the bars.
|
Busy pub with plenty of room inside and a beer garden outside next to the coastal road - shame about the plastic hedges dividing it from the main road! Beer was good from 3 handpulls.
|
Busy pub on the promenade. Rather disappointed with the choice of beers, must have been a bad day from what I can gather from previous comments. Food very good and the portions huge. You will not leave hungry ! The outside area was good but did attract the "smokers". Good atmosphere. Worth a visit.

Well kept beer - 3 handpulls - and a comfortable bar. Nice outside area overlooking the sea.

good pub, with good food can get busy but not rowdy, worth a visit

this is a friendly place with plently on the plate in the food department. some of the customers are quite passionate about pool, but in the time i spent there i invariably won because i am from east london and their made up rules do not phase me. i recommend the ale and it does a nice pint of busheys!!!

A busy pub, popular with locals, on the promenade but a little further away from the busiest area.
A large covered area at the front provides a pleasant place to overlook the bay while enjoying the beer.
Three handpumps, Oakells (which was okay) plus Black Sheep and Bombardier, which I didn't try.
The food was excellent value for money with extremely generous portions.

Quality pint of the Black Stuff accompanies a beautiful plate of Lasagne sitting under canopies with heaters looking over the bay - the perfect Sunday chill after a good saturday night.
|
They seem to serve massive food-portions but the beer was only OK.
A great view from the outside drinking area.

I have to agree with Skeet. I had a decent pint though, before moving rapidly on.
