Proper home cooked pub grub between 12 and 3pm - the pan fried cod is fresh from the fish market in the harbour. Food occasionally on in the evening but after 3 it's basically a comfortable and friendly drinking house. No kids allowed indoors and the background music is at a volume which allows quiet conversation.
Greene King IPA and Harvey's Sussex Best are usually on plus two guest beers from the Punch list, always all well kept. The comment on 3/10/11 strikes me as very much out of character if the incident was reported accurately - I'm a regular (therefore biased) but I've never had a bad pint and I can't imagine there being any reluctance to change it if the worst happened.

quite surprised by the last posting, although I'm not a regular I've used the pub at times, and though it isn't a vast range of ales, they are always well kept and decent, the service is good but not over friendly, it seems to attract a good crowd of regulars, and located of the beaten track on the Bayle right next to the excellent British Lion and with a spoons at the bottom of the road it must be doing something right

Appalling service recently. When served a warm pint of Ruddles last week, I decided to take it back only to be told by the serving person 'it is supposed to be served at room temperature'. She then took a sip and said it tastes alright to me! Her opinion was challenged, and the other person behind the bar grudgingly - eventually - told her to change it. And this in a dive that was recommended in this year's GBG. Don't go to Folkestone often but if I do, will not be going here again. It is with this kind of bad attitude and hopeless customer service that we see people staying away from pubs and drinking at home, and who can blame them. You, lady, are a disgrace and full update on its way to Camra where I hope your entry is rescinded

Quaffed an exceptional pint of harviestoun bitter & twisted(3.10) here couple of weeks back, nice GBG listed local a short stroll from the main shopping area. Sadly dead but it was noon on a monday lunchtime i guess......7/10

Sitting outside on a sunny day was very pleasant with four ales to choose from and a good range of food including fresh fish (no batter). We had a baby with us and he was well looked after too. It is near the high steet and shops but in a quiet location. Worth a visit.

I'd always received a good welcome in this pub and did so again on both recent visits. Even when seven of us walked in together we were welcomed and given a taste of the guest beer, an excellent triple hopped offering, the name of which escapes me now. On our visit the next day the guest was Exmoor Hound Dog which was good again. The pub has a well-kept feel to it with comfortable seating inside and a bright modern exterior. One of Folkestones best pubs.

I think that ETA's 6/10 for a "good pub" is marking this place too low. It is a decent, traditional pub in a quieter part of the town, with four real ales on (including a respectable Wickwar 'Rite Flanker') and a reasonably-priced food menu. 7, going on 8, in my opinion.
|
Another good pub in Folkestone town centre. Now I'm spoilt. Definately deserves a 6/10.
|
Four ales on. Whilst clearly a locals pub, you dont feel unwelcome in there. The only thing I would say against the place is that it is only the second-best pub in Folkestone. I'll let you find the best one for yourself....

Just down the hill from the excellent British Lion.
Just up the hiil from the terrible Samuel Peto (Spoons).
Sampled some excellent Crouch Vale Amarillo.
Nice pub !

Top notch place - really friendly and excellent beer
|
A traditional Victorian brick-built pub less than a minute's walk from The British Lion.
The Guildhall has more of a "proper pub" feel to it, with a friendly landlord, and a good beer range - I had one of the best pints of Adnam's I've enjoyed in a long time.
Of the two pubs in The Bayle, this is my preferred choice, and therfore warrants a good, honest 7/10.

Friendly service - beer well kept - must go back to try the food
|
Friendly service. The food is good, espcially the Sunday roast where service is quick and the meal is hot and lovely.
|
Another of my favourite pubs, well kept ales and welcoming hosts.
|
Good friendly service. Good beers and reasonable food (but I'm convinced the macaroni cheese is doctored Heinz!). Landlord can get a bit "hazy" as the day goes on...
Great pub dog!
Worth a visit if you're in town.

The Guildhall is a gem of a pub with a warmly feel to the place. The food and Cask Marque Real Ale is top notch and the pub is a great place to have a tipple or two if ever visiting Folkestone.
|
The pub appears to be well looked after and has a nice "local" feel to it with both the staff and clientele being friendly and welcoming. Real ale is served which I found to be of excellent quality on each visit. Bass and GK IPA are regulars and guests also feature. I am told it has a good reputation for its food as well. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in Folkestone, combine it with the British Lion which is close by.
