Proper home cooked pub grub between 12 and 3pm - the pan fried cod is fresh from the fish market in the harbour. Food occasionally on in the evening but after 3 it's basically a comfortable and friendly drinking house. No kids allowed indoors and the background music is at a volume which allows quiet conversation. Greene King IPA and Harvey's Sussex Best are usually on plus two guest beers from the Punch list, always all well kept. The comment on 3/10/11 strikes me as very much out of character if the incident was reported accurately - I'm a regular (therefore biased) but I've never had a bad pint and I can't imagine there being any reluctance to change it if the worst happened. dsouthgate - 14 Jan 2014 12:19 |
quite surprised by the last posting, although I'm not a regular I've used the pub at times, and though it isn't a vast range of ales, they are always well kept and decent, the service is good but not over friendly, it seems to attract a good crowd of regulars, and located of the beaten track on the Bayle right next to the excellent British Lion and with a spoons at the bottom of the road it must be doing something right vinnnie - 3 Oct 2012 18:15 |
Appalling service recently. When served a warm pint of Ruddles last week, I decided to take it back only to be told by the serving person 'it is supposed to be served at room temperature'. She then took a sip and said it tastes alright to me! Her opinion was challenged, and the other person behind the bar grudgingly - eventually - told her to change it. And this in a dive that was recommended in this year's GBG. Don't go to Folkestone often but if I do, will not be going here again. It is with this kind of bad attitude and hopeless customer service that we see people staying away from pubs and drinking at home, and who can blame them. You, lady, are a disgrace and full update on its way to Camra where I hope your entry is rescinded Dandillus - 3 Oct 2011 21:23 |

Sitting outside on a sunny day was very pleasant with four ales to choose from and a good range of food including fresh fish (no batter). We had a baby with us and he was well looked after too. It is near the high steet and shops but in a quiet location. Worth a visit. inmyopinion - 11 Sep 2010 09:47 |
