Blue Bowl, Hanhamback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Nice pub, it used to be alot better before it's refurb, but that's my preference of old pubs - it had a gorgeous layout with flagstones, etc. Now it's more modern, and a Sizzler pub. It could do with a few more staff - service is very slow, the bar is more often empty than not, leaving people waiting, and food recently has taken a very long time to come out. I understand pubs can get busy, but in the middle of the day with barely anyone but drinkers there, it was odd to experience a wait of over 45 minutes.
Overall, it's a nice pub though. It just needs more staff.

Nice pub, with a local history. Internally in good condition with a modern feel.
Food is reasonably priced, although can vary in quality. Generally good, although it has known to be poor when there were new/temporary staff working.

A large, busy 'laminated menu' food based pub which had 2 ales on, with Thatchers Gold for cider drinkers. Only 1 person serving so took about 5 minutes to get served.

This place has now re-opened as a "Sizzling" pub. The building has had a very nice comfy and effective refurb and the food looked great value and very tasty. Opted for Butcombe Gold to quaff and it turned out to be in perfect nick. 7/10

*CLOSED SOON TO REOPEN AS A SIZZLING PUB*

An old pub with small windows and thick walls so it always seems very dark and cool. This original part of the pub seems to be made from lots of little rooms which lend an intimate/pokey (however you chose to see it) atmosphere. The bigger room at the opposite end of the pub is a recent addition and has plenty of windows, light and sun. The bar staff are very nice and there always seem to be enough of them so that you never have to wait long to be served (which is becoming a rarity nowadays !). It's definitely trying to attract people who want meals and not drinkers. The pool table has been removed and the tiny telly is stuck in a dark corner and never ever gets used. Don't visit this pub if you expect to watch the football - even England in the World Cup won't get shown !!. The food is good - nothing special, and it is cheap (most stuff costs around 6.00). The clientele tend to be older and so it's a lot quieter and calmer than the other pubs just down the road in Hanham which have terrible reputations. My only problem with this pub is that they don't serve Blackthorn Cider. Why on earth if you are going to serve a cider would you chose Strongbow as this pub does ?
